- Some of the remains of Brunel's Atmospheric Railway fiasco of 1847 - 48. He used no locomotives and instead a pipe between the tracks had a vacuum created inside it by pumping stations and a carriage with a piston beneath it was pushed along at speeds of up to 70mph. The valve was unreliable and this caused its demise.
