Okay, I broke down crying when I saw this. I started sobbing my eyes out when I saw the mother turning up the radio so her and her kids could hear. That pulled at my heart. And then showing the cops watching it. This speech is completely powerful and amazing, beautiful and fantastic. She did so wonderful during the speech.
Especially when she went off script and talked to him like a mother would. I’ve said it all over this comment thread, but I don’t believe AJ Cook was “acting“ here, given she had just become a mom herself.
Jhen Mohran it’s not about justifications. these people are seriously traumatized by something that happened in their childhood and they can’t control it without the help of experts. and sometimes not even professionals can help them
@@idclol1424 I was traumatized by my therapist, someone I should trust. Over the last 3 years I don't go outside so I don't go through my fight response and hurt someone. It's a choice. It's not ok to be a monster
@@crimsinbutterfly good for you but the human brain is not as black and white. I'm pretty sure humans have more information about space than they do about the brain. There is a significant amount of sociopaths and psychopaths that are serial killers (not saying all sociopaths and psychopaths are killers there's a difference) but just because one person like you who's trauma didn't make them a killer doesn't mean it isn't going to do the same to another person. Not saying it's okay, but there is reason why a lot of people who come from shitty backgrounds become criminals and killers. That's like telling a person who went through some shit to not be depressed because you've seen someone who went through something similar be okay.
"It's not ok to be one." The most important line of this episode. Translation: Despite all the shit and hell you went through, it's not ok to do that to others, especially a child.
She was a terrible character. Her behavior was completely unrealistic. How are we as an audience supposed to feel scared for a character who doesn’t look like they give a shit.
@@kaydencehernandez7867 We’re not talking about JJ. We’re talking about the child from the episode, who saw her father get killed right in front of her eyes, then proceeded to troll his murderer after being fucking kidnapped by him, instead of, you know, being traumatized and terrified.
I loved JJ so much! She had one of the best character developments I’ve ever seen. Easily one of you knew she was never going to stay in her original role. The original run of this show is easily one of the best shows to ever exist. From the concept to the casting to the writing and storytelling to character development. Theee attention to detail and quality. My god just from start to finish just wow!
Agreed, and she was at her best when she went off script. Flynn wouldn’t have responded to the first bit of her speech, I don’t think. Her line, “What I can do is tell you what a mother should tell you“ was, I think, what really made him realize that he was in fact doing the same thing to Ellie that was done to him. he would’ve seen right through the bullshit had she stuck to the script throughout, and it very well could’ve ended badly for Ellie.
Whenever I hear this I makes me want to go up to my mom and love her for being a good mom. Can't believe some of the moms out there. What they would allow their kids endure.
I can't watch this very often because as you said it makes me want to hug my mom. I can't do that anymore because she's gone now, but at the same time it makes me think of her feel her love.
This scene in my Opinion is the second most powerful scene in the whole series, second only To the scene when Haley dies which to this day is the most heartbreaking scene I’ve ever seen in any show , jj is amazing in this scene but Tim Curry’s performance in both of these episodes is absolutely incredible
Off Topic but seriously he is Not the best Looking guy in Hollywood but his acting skills Are crazy good. Saying So Much without Saying is a masterpiece
He's in makeup here to make him look quite a bit rougher than normal. He was a VERY good looking guy when he was younger and even into late middle age, but to each his own, I suppose.
As soon as I heard “Mommy, make them stop!” in the flashbacks, I put it together and this scene had me weeping. I have a good Mom who often doesn’t give herself enough credit. God blessed me with that. I can’t imagine what possesses a mother to let stuff like this happen to her children. It’s too awful for words.
I’m trying to find that quote that said something like the bond between a mother and her son is like no other. I’m paraphrasing it, but does anyone remember that? If you can help, I would very much appreciate it
Agree with me or not but I kinda can't blame him i mean the only reason why this man is like this is because of his mother and she's the reason why he kills and does this stuff but no the killing is not right
And this is another example of why prostitutes are treated less than human! And clearly for good reason. Yeah, yeah, I get that not ALL of them are that by choice, I'm saying the ones who ARE by choice. The ones who dug themselves in that pit because they either made VERY piss poor choices that got them were they are now, or who do it just because it's "easy money" and can't be bothered to learn skills to get a REAL job and the ones who do it as a pathetic way to rebel. Those are the ones I don't feel sorry for and I believe should have their insides butchered so they can't have kids!!
That’s a fairly violent take for someone who is just having sex for money, that’s a very sad take for someone who thinks they practice empathy and sympathy
‘they’re not suppose to be the cause of your pain, they’re suppose to make it go away’ this line makes me cry every. single. time.
For anyone who wonders why JJ is my favorite CM character...this...that is all.
Nettie Merritt 4 years later and this still hit the feels

Everyone is talking about AJ Cook, but holy shit just look at Tim Curry and his phenomenal acting in this scene. With just his face and eyes.
He's really a great actor!
So was Keith Carradine and Don Swayze.
This speech should be a message on all serial killers or killers in general that use their bad childhood as a justification for murder
Jhen Mohran it’s not about justifications. these people are seriously traumatized by something that happened in their childhood and they can’t control it without the help of experts. and sometimes not even professionals can help them
It’s not a justification it’s simply the reason
