This song was my dad's funeral song, this was his favourite Neil young song of all time and he was the biggest Neil Young fan off all time he had every cassette, vinyl and CD Neil ever made and he loved Neil Young so much he named his only born son Neil (me) the acoustic version makes me cry but not tears of sorrow, tears of joy for mine and his love of this song :) R.I.P Mark Edwards
Awesome tribute Neil. Likewise, my younger brother died last year after a long struggle with cancer. At his funeral service, unbeknowns to all, he had arranged for Like A Hurricane as his exit song as his remaining brothers carried him out on his final journey. It was cranked up and an ethereal moment for those who instantly understood his selection. For mine, I'll have Cortez - I've got to decide which sublime version tho. Then again, maybe I'll have all of them played throughout the wake..... Now there's a few hours of sublime masterpieces.
neil edwards Awesome story ! I have always been a huge fan of this musical legend also. Your dad couldn't have picked a better musician and song writer to introduce you to and name you after.
One of the best versions of this song I have ever heard from the great one we call neil from a little country town named omemee, ontario canada. Thinks for the memories neil, and thank you for supporting all of the farmers with your Farm-Aid organization all of these years. God bless, and peace and love. Boulterontarioman48
You are so right Tonya. One of my biggest joys in life is that I got to see this amazing man in concert . I really feel I would have missed something in life had I not ever seen him live.
Tonya Johnson regardless of the era you grow up in, music impacts , for liife. I am now 63 years old and for as long as I remember, Niel Young, CSNY, have mpacted my mood, and quite frankly direction. I now live in El Salvador, and this song is now more than ever impactful tome.
I agree with alot that's been said here.. It's impossible for me to say that this is Neil's best work because i'm so deeply in love with so much of his music but this just does something for me.. some music has the ability to change your life and for me this is it.. as soon as that harmonica comes in at the beginning. must have listened to this a million times but it still has the ability to reach right down into the depths of my soul and say... everything is gonna be alright. THANKYOU NEIL!!!
+Glykeria Tzi ,Incredibly beautiful video to compliment Neil's beautiful song.I love the electric version, and never heard this one until now.I think the acoustic sound compliments the theme of the song better.Acoustic was before electric, and this is a historical song.Something like that.Either version is beyond brilliant,as is so much work of this great musician
I have to feel sadness for those of you on here who try to give those of us who truly comprehend a history lesson. To do so is to completely miss the point, and, I hate to say it, prove you're actually unable to even hear the song... Thanks forever, Neil Young. Dripping in soul....
saw this live in winnipeg in 2010 just neil and his guitars infront of 2000 ppl... still gives me chills \m/ also one of my fav songs to play on my bass.... a true canadian legend!
iv never felt more connected to the inca people than watching these slides listening to this also inca queen, and to some degree natural beauty....similar chords, feel, absence...WE LOVE YOU NEIL...X
What a song! Always loved Neil Young but Cortez is fantastic. Was recently in Mexico and learned the history of the country. Neil Young gets the whole thing! The most beautiful and honest song I have ever heard!
Religion in itself is neither good nor evil. It is passed through the filters of the individual. Religion doesn't make people evil. People make religion evil. Religion is a result for the search for truth and sense in the world. In fact, science and religion stem from the same desire - the desire for understanding. Some people, however, think they're better than everyone else, or that everyone else is worse than they are. Their personal religion will reflect that.
A man, this song is just a reason to have hears.... This man is a reason to think with our brain ... What a shame He didn't play it in Paris, last June ....
I was born in 82. My daughter 2014. We're sitting here together listening to this. Dad was born 55. All his fault and that killer harp and guitar. My kid will know good music.
Very nice. The artwork brings reflection on what was, Shame they are gone. Glory has a price few would pay in hindsight when the truth is known about the past.
GRACIAS for sharing these images with this song as it only makes you wonder why Cortez came across the waters only to fuck things up as we all feel it to this DAY!!!!
this recorded as my world fell apart from a divorce I did not ask for or see coming. Loved his music all my life and my kids picked it up too. They took guitar lessons and I bought them nice guitars which their Mom took away from them and sold to show her power. As much cruelty now as then, just different forms. For 10 years I tried to rally my family but hate won out in the end. My son still loves Neil though, I guess she couldn't wipe his mind clean. Control is very devisive
"I did not ask for or see coming" -- hey man, hang in there, you are not alone ... in today's world, this seems to be a sad trend with many women ... keep your head up ... peace
The thing that just absolutely flaws me emotionally is the final self-revelatory verse: "And I know she's living there, And she loves me to this day, I still can't remember when, Or how I lost my way"
Thanks for uplaoding this..This was my favorite Neil tour...with the 8 guitars lined up beside him and Sierra Nevada pale ale....great memories....wish there were more video from this tour
@JJack887 i couldn't agree more, my friend... saw him last wk, and he played this song live in toronto's BEST venue: massey hall... they filmed the concert for a new dvd project, let's hope this one makes the cut :)
@damiensongs i agree!!!, I was their in oakdale CT april1999, my absolute favorite Neil tour..Love Solo Neil better than with bands, though love crazy horse of course

Neil Edwards i am sure that your dad was a special and remarkable man.
Good taste for music & nice way to say good bay
Well said that man. Your dad would be as proud of you as you are of him....all things must pass ...RIP love lives forever...peace

There will never be anyone who can ever come close to what Neil has done all of these years...
You are so right Tonya. One of my biggest joys in life is that I got to see this amazing man in concert . I really feel I would have missed something in life had I not ever seen him live.

Amen to that, brother!
Tom Petty. Nuff said.
@@paulmcconkey637 LOL....Petty is playing A ball in comparison to Neil.
this whole song sends SHIVERS down my spine... makes me skin cold and clammy, gives me goosebumps. neil young, you're just truly amazing!
It breaks my heart every time I hear this version. Neil's playing and the way he sings evokes such emotion.
"And I know she's living there, loves me to this day, I still can't remember how, or where I lost my way"... haunting
I don't understand that part.

"some music has the ability to change your life"
And some music has the ability to speak directly to your soul.
Dan Mac that's the sign of a fantastic musician or band. Oasis/Noel/Liam and Neil are like this for me
I was asked in high school to bring something to share that i thought was beautiful. 1977. This was it.
Sounds like the song we'll all play as the world dies before our very eyes!
Here I am, listening to this, in tears...

Thanks forever, Neil Young. Dripping in soul....
This song is a Time Machine to a world we have sadly forgotten
saw this live in winnipeg in 2010 just neil and his guitars infront of 2000 ppl... still gives me chills \m/ also one of my fav songs to play on my bass.... a true canadian legend!
How he can send all this power with just an acoustic guitar! True artist!
More eerie than power. Brill though
He is a gifted creature ;)
he's a great powerful, emotive player whether on electric or acoustic
just a fantastic player
At
O
I was 20 when I first heard this song. I'm 68 now and it still makes the hair on my arm stand up when I hear it
One of Neil's most beautiful harmonica solo's for sure! Was awesome when it was playing at the end of Almost Famous
Absolutely amazing version of this song! I can't stop listening to it.
iv never felt more connected to the inca people than watching these slides listening to this also inca queen, and to some degree natural beauty....similar chords, feel, absence...WE LOVE YOU NEIL...X

I saw him play this at the end of his set, he must have timed it to be just at sunset. it was amazing as the sun was going down

But they built up with their bare hands
What we still can't do today.♪

We seem to have to follow those with the most power...... even it leads to our distruction.
Don't follow. "Speak out against the madness."
