    Hello & welcome to my Ted Talk-length comment! We recently painted the majority of our interior walls this color & I absolutely love it but here’s why it works for our space & what you may need to consider for yours… 1. We have semi-dark stained oak wood floors that skew from a walnutty brown to a cool gray depending on the grain of each wood plank. Dover works because the cool & dark tones of the floor offsets the warmer tones in this paint so that the creamy tones (my preference) show through. If you have warmer mid-tone floors, this may not work for you as you’ll probably see more yellow coming through (unless you prefer that). 2. We live in an area with prolonged winters & LOTS of gray, rainy days (nearly half the year). These are the days I really love this color the most. I have used other whites in other homes (simply white, greek villa, swiss coffee, cloud white, white dove) and on these gray days, another undertone would show through like blue, green, pink, gray, or yellow but with Dover white, I only see a creamy neutral white color. The creaminess of this paint gives a warmth & glow to our home that other whites were not able to achieve, especially on these gray days. If you live in an area with a ton of sun & bright/hot days, I’d pass on this color as it will probably warm your home up too much. And finally, 3. Most of our furniture is off-white/cream/ivory/beige - aka tones of white. If we put our mostly ivory furniture up against stark white walls, the furniture would look dingy & aged vs crisp & fresh. Dover white, however, compliments the whites in our upholstery without overpowering it like a hued paint color would & it keeps the furniture appearing cleaner than a brighter white would. Hope this helps you find your perfect paint color!

    Help! We had our walls painted pale oak. This is a beautiful color for our home. The painters were supposed to match the white trim we had in existence, but instead used dover white. It reads very very cream. I don't totally dislike it, but I generally don't use a lot of yellow undertones. Should I have them repaint it the trim? They have offered to do so.

I have both south and west exposure in my living room so a lot of sun! Pure White worked for me best with Agreeable Gray IMO but I thought Alabaster was good with it too.
      FYI when I painted a test area of Agreeable Gray on my fireplace it gave off a sight purple tone but I think it was just because the walls around it were still SW Napery which is yellow. Once I painted the entire room the purple undertone went away! So in your yellow room don't be scared off if the same happens to you! Good luck!

    • @JacobOwensDesigns
      @JacobOwensDesigns  4 года назад +2

      Hi Elisa, thank you for the kind remarks:) That's a good question. When I say things clash it's because when I compare it to other colors it's either clean or dirty, lighter or darker, cooler or warmer. Also, it could be the undertones are clashing. Undertones are complex and complicated. It takes years to develop a trained eye and to understand how to work with colors. When I say there are reasons that certain colors don't pair well it's because color is a lot more complicated than you think. It has to do with lighting, undertones of both fixed or furnished elements, outside or interior reflection of other colors, every color is unique, every color has it's own undertone unless it's a primary color or off-white for example. There is way more to add to this conversation but I think you get the point. Hope that helps:) I'm sure your trim looks beautiful with Dover White:) - thanks for sharing.
