I returned my 7800x3d for a 7950x… I edit 4k video and game at 4k and the 7800x3d sucked at having recording and streaming apps going at once and just took longer than my 5900x when it came to rendering. Got my 7950x for $420 price match to Best Buy so can’t complain there! If you just want to game this is the 7800x3d is it, but if you do a lot more save yourself the headache and time and go for more cores. Reason why I didn’t get the 7950x3d is cost and stability issues as a lot of people noted that to activate the 3DVcache you had to have the Xbox game bar installed and etc. more of a inconvenience than just a plug and play option with the 7950x. Save ya some money too!
Totally agree. I have a 13900KF in my pc in large part due to the need for all the PCIE lanes to the SSDs, HDDs, capture card, etc. Though the damn voltage issue with intel has got me wondering if I shoulda gone 7950X like you. Well It wasn't available back then

Nothing is better than 7800x3d in gaming. For sure 13700k is a good cpu and maybe better in everything else but not gaming. In an user scenario, you will never use that cpu at his max potential anyway, so don’t worry.
Good upgrade from 5nm to 4 nm. - 25°C from 7600x, -10°C from 7800x3d despite +500mhz. Close performance, without cache and 2 less cores. 9800x3d Will be good too. PS: You have to show avg temps, and test in win10 that is better then win11 service pack in games. A more realistic test in 1440p will be ok. 7500f is more consistent by $ then 7800x3d, then you can wait for the last big cpu for am5.
Every CPU doesn't have direct contact with the RAM, it goes firstly to the CPU cache, as X3D fetches more data from RAM, it gives more instructions for the CPU to process without having a bottleneck in between, ofc X3D for gaming makes a huge difference, since gaming doesn't stop running millions and millions of lines of code.

If you have money for an RTX 4090 + a 4K monitor it would be stupid to not get a high performance CPU with it. It doesn't change the total price much and you will get better 1% lows. Plus there are games that push the CPU more than the GPU like real time strategy and some other simulation games. I have a RTX 4090 + 7950X3D + 240 refresh 1440P OLED monitor and in most games the CPU is the bottleneck.
