First, forgive my english, I live in Brazil, and I don't speak your language perfectly. Second, Thank you soooo much!! I improve my techniques in inkscape every day by watching your videos. God bless you!!
Hi Nick! I am a fourteen year old boy, and my father owns a car lot near my house called Stealth Auto. I've really been wanting to make a logo for that lot, since I would like the feeling of everyone seeing my creation whenever they go there, but I'm still new to inkscape, and don't want to spend money for it. I also don't know how the law works exactly, so I decided to ask permission to use the rounded banner icon you made in an earlier as the "base" for the logo. If I'm not aloud to use it, that's fine, and the reason I asked. I just wanna feel accomplished and make my dad happy. Thank you for listening! I love following your tutorials, and may like to do something similar for my future job. Thanks for helping me learn as much as I know about inkscape!
The rounded banner tutorial I uploaded last week? If so, go right ahead. That's an original design of mine so I do not have a problem with you using it. For future reference, just check the description of any video for usage permissions. Some designs are derived from other designs, so they can't be used commercially. This is always noted in the description and credit is given to the original artist. Good luck with the logo!
I've got to say, Nick. You make some awesome tutorials! The video might be years old; however, it's helping me today. Thank you for the help. Also I see what the people were commenting about when it came to "Break apart", near the end. Confused me too, however after rewinding 3 or 4 times in that spot, I understood and got it to work.
Same problem. Ive redone it like 5 times. Cause it kept saying "one of the objects is not an path, cannot perfrom boolean operation". Prolly a glitch 😓
For those of you on the latest or later versions of Inkscape that can't get the shadows section to work. I was able to just use the bezier pen to draw in shadows. The instructions from 16:45 just don't work on the newer versions.
Great Video, Thanks. The shadow part is troubling me that is the Intersection won't happen, when i do the Strokes to path; Break apart; Union and then Intersection, I'm using v1.0
For newer versions of Inkscape, for this purpose you would want to use the ungroup after converting the stroke to path instead of the break apart function, this helped me with a previous video in a similar scenario!
Can you make a video on how to draw vector isometric objects as seen looking from a steeper angle than the normal 45 degrees? That is using angle values other than 30 degree in axonometric grid? For example, how a cube would look like if seen at a slight angle from the front
Hi Nick can we have a tutorial for the finish work like in the start of any one of your video the finish work the you can change background color and but your basic logo in the corner just like you did. thanks a lot for your grate tutorial .
Hey Dear, Thank you for your amazing videos. This one also good. But I have an issue with adding shadow at the end. I can't find the link when you described at the beginning. Can you please add to description . Best of luck . Thank you.
I had trouble with "break apart" when making the shadows and had to use "ungroup" to allow "union" to work. Any idea why that might be? Thank you for an excellent tutorial!!
Hi Jack, Indeed, break apart does not work anymore with 1.0. There a new tutorial from Nick regarding this. You can replace Path- Break apart with Object-Ungroup and is ok.
I'm trying to make a keyboard, but the hardest part is the measure of the keys, the gap of the keys, and the border of the keyboard. Would you make a tutorial about that?
That's a good idea, I may do that is it's practical enough for a tutorial. Basically, I would create an axonometric grid on the page and use that (instructions for that are in any of my isometric tutorials)
Thank you. I finally fit all the Keys on the layout, but there is missing the iluminated gap. Well, here is the keyboard i'm trying to do. I think the design is pretty cool, sofisticated and not too complex. Idk. Any way, thank you for the videos you made, they really teach a lot stuff in a easy way to understand, keep that way. I keep thinking why you dont have millions of subscribers, your vídeos are awesome. _lh3.googleusercontent.com/xX4E_dNfDAqFXZ4Q3kvK53PbR8h8JuICFfUln48YxP9o3KYeBnvONMe1TsqY7cvbNGvKDfZhxw_
Wow, that was rough. But I did it. Great tutorial, but you should explain what you're doing, like path, stroke to path, union, what exactly does that accomplish. Otherwise, no problems.
It's a variety of minor reasons. I wrote about it here in case you're curious as to exactly why: logosbynick.com/why-i-dont-like-inkscape-0-91-an-honest-review/
hello can you tell me in this program file format. This is really important issue. For example I finished half of my work and I want to save my file. Which format should I save? And will I have any problem reopen my file. And I have a problem about eps file format in inkscape Nick. I am saving my work eps format but I can not upload it. This file have a problem. How can I solution this issue..???
I got stuck here too. Didn't see a solution posted by anyone in the comments but I found if you right click and select "set clip" instead of Path > intersect it gives the same result
I love your tutorials, but holy crap why do they have to change Inkscape so much? Half the time I can't follow along with the older ones especially where it comes to paths. It seems like 1.0 or whatever version I have does not treat paths the same way. I can't count how many times I had to go into the shapes and individually select objects to convert to paths. Then there is text, which for the life of me I can't get converted to a path. If it can't be converted to a path any boolean operations fail and if it's part of a group the entire operation fails. It's really frustrating. I'm stuck right now on the shadowing part. I'm going to have to figure out how to do it without following your tutorial since I have not been able to re-create your instructions despite rewinding about 15 times. At least you get an increased view count :) Edit: I got creative and used difference instead which I then used as a template for the actual shadow - kind of like a negative mold. It was probably more steps than I needed, but I'm still learning :).
I like the parts where he does things but doesnt describe the thought process of why he is doing it in the first place or how or why it is working like that in the first place. Working on the shadow effect, path intersection doesnt do anything and I followed the video to a T. Lame
I had the same complaint until i realized this is meant to be just a hands-on INTRODUCTION to Inkscape. You are supposed to follow it with an in-depth beginner tutorial afterwards. And as an introduction is great to show you how simple it can be to create an apparently very complex graphic.
First, forgive my english, I live in Brazil, and I don't speak your language perfectly. Second, Thank you soooo much!! I improve my techniques in inkscape every day by watching your videos. God bless you!!
OH thank goodness! A Inkscape tutorial with no EDM and a sensible voice-over. Bless you.
This is clearly one of your most complete, most useful tutorials. They just keep improving each day :D
Great to hear that. Thank you!
I honestly don't understand how someone can be this good, thank god I stumbled accross your channel!!

Thanks. Hopefully it turns out good.

Having the same problem, where were you going wrong?
Same problem. Ive redone it like 5 times. Cause it kept saying "one of the objects is not an path, cannot perfrom boolean operation". Prolly a glitch 😓

You can replace Path- Break apart with Object-ungroup
At 20:53 , Can you please explain what's the point of Stroke to Path and then Break Apart? That's the only confusing thing. Otherwise, superb job.
Who are those three that disliked this video? :/
I'm learning much from you. Thank you very much for these all beautiful videos.
Thank you. Can't please everyone I suppose.
Probably the ones who paid for illustrator I suppose....😂😂😂
Good, as always, Nick! Thanks.
wooow .. amazing lesson .. thank you
Thank you so much! 👏👏
Sweet stuff, helpful!
This is great! I'm learning so much from your tutorials 😊
very creative, thanks for sharing 👍👍👍
The last intersection part is the tricky one and the most viewed one too 😄😄
Super Nick. Thanks. Easy tutorial, nice graphics.
Regards.
This one is amazing Nick :D :D
Thanks!
Made it. Perfect tutorial 👍🏽
nice tutorial dude
Thanks!
Amaizing tutorials Nick👏❤️. I'm Learning alot. Keep up the good work😀
That was very helpful, thank you.
Hey Nick, you should start making *videos of GIMP*, it will be very useful.
When I become more proficient with GIMP I certainly will
20:00 the path functions are not been working and i do not know whether it is working or not and how it works . How do i know that
Me too. Same error

I love your book on freelancing! Could you tell me some freelancing sites to start off?
Awesome. The best I know of at the moment is Upwork and Freelancer.com. I hear LinkedIn now has a gig service as well.
Thanks!

I found your channel today! Can I suggest to you something ? Do it a layout page of a website in inkscape. Thanks and keep up with this awesome work.

What in document properties, what size are you using?
I use the standard size. I just turn off the visibility of the page border
Why don't you use Inkscape 0.91?
It's a variety of minor reasons. I wrote about it here in case you're curious as to exactly why: logosbynick.com/why-i-dont-like-inkscape-0-91-an-honest-review/

Save the file as .svg (Inkscape SVG). Where are you trying to upload the eps file? I've never had a problem with Inkscape's eps files.
ok. Thanks a lot, the problem is solved.
When i get to the part where i click on intersection, it wont follow through. Ive redone it several times 😭
