Great video, thank you. Being one of those that have spent the last couple of weeks trying to get my GK3 Ultra figured out, I admit that hearing about the Pro made me excited and a bit disappointed. I mean i just spent a bunch on mine and a newer one comes out with more features and a better light source? That said, Uniformation has been amazing to work with on the back side and they a doing more to accommodate me than any other manufacturer has...ever. My hope is to have a large and 10 inch printer on deck. I have the large one, now i just need to replace my Photon with a more up to date printer. My eye currently is on the M7 (not pro), however part of me really wants to dive into the GK world with both feet. This time, I think I'll let things play out a bit before jumping. My gut tells me that the people behind Uniformation will rise to the need. In the meantime, I'll be over here trying to best support models on the GK3 Ultra. 😊
So you have seen my video and the issues I have had, that being said there is no doubt in my mind that the GK3 Pro is superior to the M7 in terms of useability but it’s also a lot more money. The question is is the heater/ ergonomics worth the money, I think so but it’s up to you
From what I understand it’s a known issue that is absolutely fixable and in hand, but I will have to wait for the main review to show any fixes that are forthcoming
It can't be worse than the experience I've been having with anycubic for my mono 4 ultra. I started a 220 layer print this morning, estimated 20 minutes print time, it's been printing for 5 hours now ... Support has been non existent and there's no firmware updates. I'm probably going to pack it back in its box soon as I'm home and send it back. What an absolute frustrating, infuriating, and just plain disappointing experience this has been trying to get into resin printing. I thought at first I was just spoiled by my experience with Bambu, being a supporter since the Kickstarter, but the more time goes on without hearing anything from anycubic the more I'm ready to switch to a different manufacturer already
@@RisingApe I finally got in touch with support, they wanted me to replace the LCD screen at one point, and do some other nonsense, I said no, and they agreed to exchange it for a different one. So fingers crossed the next one they send just works
About the UV wavelength change, it's worth noting that HeyGears did the same but in the other direction, going from 365nm on their Reflex initially, to 405nm on the newer Reflex RS! The question is: for REGULAR resin (not clear, not specialized): is there a benefit on print times and print quality, using a 365nm UV light source? If there is no improvement or even regression for regular resin, the GK3 should have the ball screw too, and the GK3 Pro should have been named "GK3 Dental" instead.
Hi, as I understand it the 385nm wavelength is a narrower band of light which causes less bloat in resins. This means for parts manufacturing where dimensional accuracy is critical like in dental and medical applications you will see an improvement. For minis it’s less relevant BUT the pieces will fit together with less clean up needed. This is true for any resin. The HeyGears Reflex RS went in the opposite direction as you say to allow for the fact that most of its users don’t need this function or extra cost.
@@RisingApe Got it, thanks. But if I follow your demonstration, that means that a regular resin with a "405 nm" label on the bottle would print better on a 365nm printer. That seems counter-intuitive. Also, excuse me but talking of "extra cost not needed" for HeyGears customers made me smile - but I got your point ;-)
6:16 no it is not, Fresnel lense is not a direct replacement for standard lenses and it's feature used in msla is to form unidirectional parallel light rays out of multidirectional light emitted by light source which cannot be achieved with "more complicated glass lenses". F-
Hey without doing a deep dive into the history its hard to summarise this stuff and keep it interesting, but yeh I did sell it a bit short. It absolutely is just a flat lens though, terms like that sound like great marketing but can act also be a barrier to folks trying to understand all these fancy terms. I am simply tryings to demystify it in an approachable way. If i had said what you said there are at least a half dozen more Jargon words and its even more confusing for layman. Not critisising, you are 100% correct but this is why I said it like I did.
Every reviewer had some major issues with GK3, look like another launch disaster as Ultra. Also how do you go into next generation battle without pressure sensitivity and an even smaller build plate than the last gen.
I think all the reviewers had issues initially but these were fixed with firmware updates and are now sorted. They were all able to print great models. I am the only one with an actual faulty machine I think? The build plate I don’t see as a massive issue personally but I get if you do, if you are army printing then you may need that extra space. The pressure sensors is an interesting one, I can’t test tbh because I need it to make reliable prints to test what that is like. For other printers they work well on the M7 and the HeyGears so for sure it’s a miss here
Some things you haven't mentioned. The sd 480p camera will be upgraded to a 720p camera to release not like your pre production model. Release models ship with cpfa not act or nfep (CPFA is a mix between the two). Not sure how it took you an hour and a half to change those screws I have more than several GK2s, you should be looking at 20 minutes max lol. I am a Professional printer who has many printers from pretty much all of the brands for quite a few years now, I have to say the GK2 is by far the best and most reliable printer I have used to date. Now I know you youtubers have been given these printers to test these machines for bugs as I also speak with uniformation so I have faith after you guys have bashed them enough they'll deliver just like the GK2 Your machine right now is a pre production model lmao.... designed for testing for bugs, a bit misleading here in my opinion. I definitely will be buying the GK3 pro especially when compared to the Haygears printers (I find them over priced and over hyped)
Hey while I appreciate the lengthy comment, I want to push back on a few details here as it’s just not the reality. I did not recieve any details about the printer at all from Uniformation until 3 days before the release what I did know was from talking to other creators which is difficult because we all work hard to make independent previews that are as unbiased as possible. The camera I have been told the opposite but had nothing confirmed officially. The release film is as far as I know unconfirmed too and again I have not been informed of anything officially. I have sampled the offer from most brands too and if you have seen my other videos you know I was a Huge fan of the GK2 and despite my issues a big fan of the GK3 too. Good for you reference the vat, there are over 40 screws and three different thread sizes.. Last point, my machine was shipped to me as a production unit not pre production, I am happy to test for bugs and if that’s how it was sent I would have said as such.. I like working with Uniformation they are a great team and make excellent machines with a real focus on workflow which other brands should aspire to! Oh yeh.. if your going to buy a machine use my link ;)
There is some problems, i think we have not solved by contacting you directly, due to their support team are preparing the Formnext events in Germany during the week u get the printers, cause short of communication to reply to you so sooner, as it was told to you already, the first stock machine in your hand are not the finally updated and final version.😭
In your opinion if you were me is it better value to get the standard and not the pro as I only want to print models for painting and bits and bobs and accessories for hubbies ww2 tanks and planes dioramas . I don’t mind paying extra for the pro I’m the type of person who likes to have all the whistle and bells available to me but form what I see the standard model has everything the pro has (ok the screw and the wavelength are different but I get the impression the wavelength will benefit specialist printers (dentist) and the screw is nothing major. I haven’t e clue about wavelengths or fep sheets. The technical side is it not my area of expertise I’m more an end user. Thanks
That’s my take too, the screw is a great addition if you are chasing dimensional accuracy then it’s a necessity as is the light source but if you are making hobby grade kit the I would go standard. And buy more paint instead!
Is that the GK3 Ultra? Head over to the official facebook page and ask one of the team to chase it up for you. They are usually very helpful. Send your order number to them too.
So GK2 at the clearance price or GK3 pro for the light source / wavelength / and ball screw at the sacrifice of build plate size and money. Decisions decisions.... Or just neither and get a Saturn 4 ultra and deal with that obnoxious double plate for clean up, but tilting vat for ease of success, and less money.
There are no easy answers here, for me I would get the GK2 at clearance money. They have discontinued the machine but expect parts to be available for several more years. I have a Saturn 4 and it’s a good printer but that build quality is evident and the plate is very annoying. The GK3 i am sure will be an incredible machine but as of right now I can’t recommend due to the issues I have had.
I use Saturn 4 Ultra for three weeks.. Cleaning the plate is not really an issue, actually I clean now very fast between prints once I figured it out. The print quality is just amazing and also prints very fast. It is such an easy machine to use and you get excellent results in terms of print quality.
How the hell did uniformation get it so wrong with the GK3. Really shocked and disappointed at the GK3, i love my GK2s and was so looking forward to this printer, but i think I'll give them a miss and look at other companies for my next printer, 😢
Honestly I don’t think they did, I obviously had issues with mine but fully expect the machine to be sorted for actual release. The only downgrade is the slightly smaller build volume, which is odd but for me makes almost no difference, I very rarely have a full plate. But if that’s not the case for you I get it. What other reasons were there for you?
@RisingApe having watched FauxHammer and Greedy3ds reviews as well as your own, my opinion of the GK3 is definitely not for me, I don't think they should stop producing the GK2, it's been a solid work horse for a year now, I print 1/6th or 1/4 scale and the GK2 just works, why fix something that wasn't broken, the GK3 looks rushed and has faults before it's even been released, look at all the issues with the GK3 ULTRA, I think uniformation missed a chance to produce the best printer on the market by adding all these upgrades that the GK2 didn't need, maybe update the screen and get rid of the horrible plastic vat feet, that's all the GK2 needed to be upgraded in my opinion as a GK2 owner,
@@RisingApe About the build size and screen size … the screen is from 10.3 to 9.6 inches. But if you compare the size of the buildplate according to the uniformation website both printers has a 9.5 inch build plate. So I’m questioning, doesn’t the gk2 just waste some screen there or do I overlook something
Um, a "Fresnel Lens" is not just a fancy term for a flat lens . . . . " It's named after the guy that invented it and it's a quite sophisticated optical component. Don't sell it short.
