@anthonylong5870 Your take is completely out of touch. The way I see it, the machines worth having today are from Bambu, Creality, Voron, or similar; companies that come up with new ideas and push the market forward. The new Blackberry or Palm is going to be Prusa; who are doing exactly what is mentioned in this video... sitting on the same design they have had for years. Familiarity with the Prusa ecosystem is what had me going that direction. Bambu makes a good product and I love that they push the industry.
I think Bambu made a mistake by not offering a larger format printer before developing something new. They should've just sized everything up and then worked on something new to the table. We (FRC 5090) use our x1c for a ton of robot parts but we are finding more and more often that we just need a slightly larger build area.

The best part of a Bamboo video is their leagues of fanboys in the comment section. It’s like 13 year old boy arguing over who makes the better video game console.
I got my A1 last week. It’s my fourth printer in the last 10 years. I’ve had to spend so much time calibrating and tinkering with all my other ones that I lost the passion to design and print stuff. The A1 has been so simple to use and get really good, fast, high quality prints from that I haven’t stopped printing all week.
The only thing I'm afraid of is 3d printers becoming like paper printers. Machines sold below cost that only work with their consumables which are then priced out of this world and ultimately useless. Does anyone know if this has ever been addressed by Bambu leadership or anyone else?
Even the high-five was premium. I don't have a BL printer yet, I think the close source and the dependency on using their servers is whats holding me back.
11:45 „How are you able to pack so much technology, that doesn’t cost that much?“ I’m sorry but that is not a good question, you can ask a Chinese Manufacturer. 😅
Bambu Lab idolizes Steve Jobs. It's not that Bambu Lab is evil it's just that they want to capture the consumer 3D market -- a market that was born out of the generosity of the Open Source Community, and now they and others want to take that market into the closed source realm where everything is proprietary patented property. Bambu Lab is the marketing arm of much larger Chinese conglomerates. These larger investors hold the patents to the tech that "Bambu developed". In future there will be more lawyers involved at every stage and less and less excess value will flow to the end consumer. RIP RepRap
I kinda want to hear his story of how he convinced investors to believe in his company when they started up. Like I know as an Ex DJI exec he probably had some capital himself but, I have to imagine Bambulab couldn't get to where it is without those investors. I just wonder, did he show prototypes to investors? What was the business plan presented? How was he confident enough to take the step of leaving DJI? All questions I'd love to see in an interview.
@mikestewart4752 While many people assume every company gets subsidies, if you think about it for a second that's not really possible. Only select companies in specific industries get subsidies and I'm not sure I've seen any evidence or reason to believe 3d printing companies were the recipients of such things.
@@mikestewart4752 You realize you literally cannot subsidize every single business right? When everything is a subsidy, nothing is a subsidy. That's just how it works. Furthermore, you can see their initial investments from private companies. This is public information.

After printing with a P1S for one week, this interview has increased my belief in Bambu revolution and the future of 3D printing.
Before I even watch this.. I sure hope you ask on any assurances for them not locking up things because of their closed source nature and doing proprietary clouds/app/filament with RFID(that is way overkill spec for their use), etc.. Otherwise I'll just stick with Prusa because I can't put IP on someone else's servers.
And to people who think I'm crazy.. it might not even be Bambus choice! DJI and Tiktok are under huge threat of bans, tariffs etc.. you think that can't happen to Bambu? This guy is FROM DJI
I read the topics on their forun and it says that you can use 3rd party filaments and you can print models directly from microSD instead of using cloud?
With the Chinese economy collapsing and global tensions rising, there is a good possibility that parts for these printers will be impossible to obtain in the not so distant future. Spend your money wisely.
This man has done more to transform consumer 3D printing than anyone on earth. So much appreciation. The others were all happy to languish, making unreliable, hard to use, overpriced crap, then Bambu came along and blew us all away.
You mean ex DJI employees with millions in venture capital investments and backing of the Chinese government who took everything from the open source community and produced a closed source eco system of non repairable 3d printers, that they then sell at artificially low prices to consumers. Yep they are great 😅
@@thegarageluthier You sound awfully bitter. Creality dat you? Unrepairable? Perhaps you should tell that to the printer I repaired multiple times in the past 2 years. And I don't CARE if they used open source, nor that it's closed source now. They transformed the industry and gave me exactly the printer I wanted. I don't mess about in the code or hardware. I wanted a machine that just works, in colour, and that's PRECISELY what they gave me. Artificially low prices? Yes please! Although £1500 is not THAT artificial is it?
@@thegarageluthier uhm. sorry dude. but he has a point. out of personal experience, it took me YEARs to get all my non bambu printers to work reliably , bambu was a out of the box print experience, there is no comparison. You're just bitter that someone finally did do it and made 3D printing more reliable and accessible to everyone. Now the hobby isn't a niche anymore.. i get it. I also get that its harder to repair anything on such a machine without extensive knowledge about electronics / mechanics. However. knowing how much effort it takes to repair and maintain a older "DIY" machine.. yeah.. sorry. i want something that does print what i want.. not having to f' around constantly to keep the printer printing correctly. the 3D printer shouldn't be the main part of the hobby of making things.
Very nice and likable person indeed. You would never suspect him of ripping off other 3D printing companies without so much of a thank you or acknowledgement…
I used to hate Bambu. I thought they were the apple of 3d printing. Basically I thought they were anti-repair/anti-consumer. I mean why else have a closed off ecosystem and proprietary parts? Once I ordered my A1 I finally understood. It's to make it as simple and reliable as possible. All while remaining very cheap and having a 1 stop shop. I don't think I will ever go back to anything but bambu. Maybe prusa in the future if they release a printer to compete with the P1 or A1 around the same price point. But the A1 was the first printer I have bought where I didn't have buyers remorse the days between ordering and it arriving. Normally after ordering is when I start seeing the bad reviews. All I saw with the A1 was more positives. Once I got it I had it up and going within an hour (including the 30 minutes calibration).
The thing people don't realize is that the "apple methodology" in of itself it isn't bad. What makes it bad is how aggressively they choose to maintain their ecosystem. Bambu is really using the methodology how it should have been. Keep it simple and streamlined, protect things that would absolutely give your competitors the edge they need to instantly catch up and make everything for the consumer easy and reasonably priced. More importantly don't fight consumers wanting to modify their product, but embrace and support it. That is where Bambu sets itself apart.
Oh cry me a river but it’s not open source. So what. I want my hobby ti be printing stuff not the printer. If people want that then great. Go for it. Stop gatekeeping cos your niche hobby isn’t any more Grow up
@@MattHealey. Who the hell are you talking too? Neither of us are gatekeeping and are instead saying it is great they are trying to make this as consumer friendly as possible.
@MattHealey. Brother... You ready the first 4 sentences, got mad, and replied... Do you only read news headlines and get mad as well? Lol literally read the next 2 sentences, or you know the rest of the comment...
Great machines when they are working! Would have been nice to ask him about the terrible customer support the company provides? Also why do European customers get a 2 year warranty whilst everyone else only gets 1 year?
Aside from the question around open source, why do Bambu Lab printers require printing through their portal? I am fine with proprietary tech but if I hit print on a X1C where does the STL file actually go?
@@Vallecaucanisimo uhm... the sliced file ends up on the SD card in the printer.. thats where it downloads them to.. in LAN mode. You don't have to use the Cloud service if you don't like. Thats where the sliced file ends up when you use the cloud. under your account. Same as all the files you do in a free version of F360 end up in the Autodesk cloud. or any other service. I really don't get why everyone only rings the alarm bells about cloud services when its china doing it. And everyone else gets a free pass.. pfft..
Buy your Bambu Lab printer now, before Trump's import tariffs take effect! If you did vote for the guy, wait until _after_ the tariffs are in effect. 😉
No. There is an amazing concentration of industries in the Shenzhen area which can result in lower overall cost despite higher relative wages. There are amazingly innovative 3D printing firms in China. Bambu is a combination of that innovation with enormous investment funding from larger Chinese conglomerates.
Shill-o-meter: off the charts. Where are the critical questions? Like how they are filling patents on prior art, and what they've learned from their botched recall?
Why does it look like smiling? Is the hardest thing in the world for this guy to do. It’s obvious this guy realizes he couldn’t just come into the market as a product and ignore the community and it’s nice to see he’s participating, but it’s a little too late for that especially with all the theft of community ideas. The dude is a very very shrewd businessman first. He can smile all he wants, but I still see somebody that’s kinda evil so to speak. Any company that relies on a community and then fight its own community to only speak nice things and forces its own community to play along with them or face being banned from seeing any other new products or participating in their affiliate program is about his community unfriendly as it gets. Honestly, it’s kind of disgusting to watch Joel schmoozing so hard and getting all buddy buddy. You know this guy hates every second of having to deal with all these peons and public. And kudos to Joel for not asking a single tough question. Wouldn’t want to risk getting the next product to review. I can’t wait for the tariffs to kick in. These guys are gonna have to spend a fortune building a Mexican production facility.

I just wonder, did he show prototypes to investors? What was the business plan presented? How was he confident enough to take the step of leaving DJI?
All questions I'd love to see in an interview.
Subsidies from the CCP helped too. Can't forget that!
@mikestewart4752 While many people assume every company gets subsidies, if you think about it for a second that's not really possible.
Only select companies in specific industries get subsidies and I'm not sure I've seen any evidence or reason to believe 3d printing companies were the recipients of such things.
@ you should likely educate yourself on the inner workings of the CCP.

I read the topics on their forun and it says that you can use 3rd party filaments and you can print models directly from microSD instead of using
cloud?
you haven't informed yourself at all about it. i see.
@@ErmanKutlu this! thank you
With the Chinese economy collapsing and global tensions rising, there is a good possibility that parts for these printers will be impossible to obtain in the not so distant future. Spend your money wisely.
With the wars going around everywhere, live your life wisely.
Yeah. That happens and a wiper will be the leat of your worries
I’ll buy what I want thx
@@MattHealey. "wiper" lol. You do you.
No No Bed Slingers.
Very nice and likable person indeed. You would never suspect him of ripping off other 3D printing companies without so much of a thank you or acknowledgement…
you mean... like every company does with everyone else's in the market?
Go for it.
Stop gatekeeping cos your niche hobby isn’t any more
Grow up
@@MattHealey.
@@MattHealey. Reading the full comment before typing a rant, usually helps not making an ass of yourself :)
Great machines when they are working! Would have been nice to ask him about the terrible customer support the company provides? Also why do European customers get a 2 year warranty whilst everyone else only gets 1 year?
"When they are working" lol. Dude, tell us you have no idea what the hell you are doing without telling us.
Aside from the question around open source, why do Bambu Lab printers require printing through their portal? I am fine with proprietary tech but if I hit print on a X1C where does the STL file actually go?
You can print offline/LAN if you want
@KanskeGanskeGod but seriously, where do they go?
@@Vallecaucanisimo uhm... the sliced file ends up on the SD card in the printer.. thats where it downloads them to.. in LAN mode. You don't have to use the Cloud service if you don't like. Thats where the sliced file ends up when you use the cloud. under your account. Same as all the files you do in a free version of F360 end up in the Autodesk cloud. or any other service. I really don't get why everyone only rings the alarm bells about cloud services when its china doing it. And everyone else gets a free pass.. pfft..
Watching this while Joel has 666k subscribers, could it be a warning about Bambu and Tao?
if you're overly superstitious... maybe. its just a number.

Buy your Bambu Lab printer now, before Trump's import tariffs take effect!
If you did vote for the guy, wait until _after_ the tariffs are in effect. 😉
Damn the prices for 3-D printing is gonna skyrocket once the orange man takes office. Can’t wait.🤦♂️

@@karsvau453 PrusaSlicer, Printables usw.
These guys are gonna have to spend a fortune building a Mexican production facility.
ah.. another one of those who don't understand who's paying for tariffs.
How do you sell it so cheap? We have technical funding from the CCP. 😂
