As he said, the speed is soooo important for trips to Asia! Not only does the flight take a long time, but the jet lag is so harsh that you also end up loosing at least a day each way to extreme exhaustion and/or sleep problems, also that is obviously very unhealthy especially for elderly and disabled people. We need faster air travel, it isn't just an avgeek fantasy, it is a genuine need to improve human society's wellbeing
Although this supersonic aircraft looks much smaller than the legendary Concorde, it is exciting to know Supersonic travel is coming back, which is a long aspired dream of this Millennium. Congratulations...
Warning... A skeptic view here. I love their ambition but I'd be shocked if they were able to even get a prototype completed and in the air. This video felt like a capital raising promotion. If you have HUGE aerospace companies like Lockheed, Boeing and Airbus with their resources, knowledge and experience not delving back into super sonic flight, there's clearly a reason why.
It may fly, but I really doubt that they will find any market for it. Post covid, with everyone doing teleconference, the only reason to go faster is like the CEO explained, and that is viable only if the ticket would be at the same price than subsonic airplanes, which is impossible. Also, making an experimental supersonic airplane in 2022 WITHOUT fly by wire commands tells that they are lacking in some fields at least. So a bit better than vaporware for the moment.
@@pbyfr I did some research and I am pretty certain that there is a lot of people wanting to fly supersonic again, leisure and business. Also they already have preorders from United and Japan Airlines
They already have customers pre ordering and lots of capital behind them. Also, lots of the knowledge, experience, etc, that they have in their company are from aerospace companies like Lockheed, Boeing, Airbus etc
Of course, skeptical view is the norm. Boom will need win more airlines orders to make economies of scale. Time will tell. I am showing whatever the company is doing at the moment as the company has provided unprecedented access. I do not get paid from making this video.
Working at Centennial Airport, it is such a treat to catch the occasional glimpse of this prototype. Unfortunately, they can't flight test it here, but even hearing the occasional engine run up is an experience.
So many people have been talking down on this mission to bring sustainable super sonic travel saying its impossible but this video would change a lot of their perspectives
This is a very impressive project. Congratulations to all the team for getting this far. It is very ambitious. I think the biggest hurdles they need to overcome are partly environmental. Concorde looked like a runaway success with lots of orders, until the CAA banned all supersonic flight over land. I’m assuming that problem still exists. Also the cost factor is there too. Any ticket in one of these is going to be mega expensive. I’m sure people will pay though. Concorde was used a lot by businessman and businesswomen to get from one side of the world to the other in the quickest time possible and it was very successful at that. They also weren’t too bothered about comfort. Which in fairness the Concorde didn’t really have. It was about speed. Not living in luxury. I also think that might be an issue. People have got used to long flights….but in an environment akin to a luxury hotel room. 😂 This won’t be offering that service (I assume). It wasn’t mentioned in the video but I guess this is a scale test version? With engine, fuel, etc there is no space for passengers. It doesn’t look big enough. Although I can see the "holes" in the fuselage. Not sure if those are windows or access panels?
The problem with the Concorde was that it was eating fuel like crazy, and when oil prices were going high, a ticket was so expensive, only wealthy businesspeople could afford it. The high fuel consumption also came with high CO2 emission, which is also bad if the aviation industry wants to go green. The Concorde was so loud as well, it was actually banned from flying over some countries. I'm a bit skeptic, but I don't think a small startup company could overcome these problems. I think it would be better to develop carbon neutral propulsion for subsonic planes instead.
The fuel costs alone make the Concorde far less efficient than even the A380-800. At least the A380 can carry over 500 people. Concorde? Just up to 120. It's range was less than 5000 miles too. The A350 ULR in use by Singapore now makes way more sense.
