I am new to pottery, nine months now and have been working on throwing but a week ago I started to experiment with slab or handbuilt items. I have watched several of your videos. Today I made the oval Utensil holder in this video and am so pleased with how it turned out although I know there are several steps left between now and glazing, but I am excited to see how it ends up. I just want to say that your videos are so good, so to the point and easy to follow yet detailed. You are easy and enjoyable to listen to. Yesterday I made 3 of, following the measurements of your templates (Thank-you), your little 4 sided jars with the "puffy lids" and they are drying now. My, what started out as a 3-inch square slab, lids were a bit thin when I made them yesterday after I rolled them out and I was a concerned about them surviving after shrinkage and being too fragile so I made three more today using a 4-inch square and they seem a lot better. I love your two-sided vase and will attempt to make that next. I appreciate your templates because they give a sense of sizing that I usually have a hard time getting a sense of in other videos. Cheers, good job with your tutorials. Also, love your bisque stamps that you have made, very motivating. Freddy's wife.
That is so nice to hear! I am glad that you are finding the videos helpful. Thank you so much for sharing. I really appreciate it. It sounds like you are enjoying hand building. It's funny - I always thinking of myself as a wheel thrower and didn't enjoy hand building for years. But I am a big fan now and love it as much as the wheel.
Sorry for missing this message. I don't have a slab roller either. I think I probably used a quarter of a bag to make the slab but I don't remember for sure
It is from xiem tools. It is a nice tool but I have since switched to using a serrated rib. I cut a piece off a rib and use the smaller piece for scoring
Nice video as always - cute designs. I love your ideas because they spark inspiration - so cool! Question: Where did you get your signature stamp from?
Simply Dee thank you! Love hearing that the videos spark inspiration. 😊 I got this stamp many years ago from claystamps.com. I believe they are still in business. You can have them do any design you want. In my case I wrote out my signature the way I wanted it and they made a stamp out of it. Really cool. Nice quality metal with a nice wooden handle.
