This is irrelevant and a little ignorant, the problem isn't what's faster, but which processor has actual optimizations that programmers are building into their programs. So no matter how good it does in a benchmark, an M1 or 2 of any kind will definitely blow it out of the water in real world usage with programs not released in 2012.
Came to say this. Benchmarks are fun but software devs are already leaving intel behind when developing for mac. Adobe especially. If having the latest software isn't a nessecity then you're all good. But for a work machine I've had to upgrade as my machine is now 2 years behind what I need in terms of software. PLUS security is a real thing- There's been a few major security updates on OSX recently and having to hack your machine with OCLP every time is a pain. I've been using a 3,1 for a few years because I got it cheap but I'm retiring it now to become a storage machine/I might part it out as I flashed the GPU. They're insane machines and the fact they even run OS software released Decades after the hardware is an amazing feat that won't probably ever be repeated but it's getting less and less viable to use them as anything more than enthusiast/project machines

Which version of macOS was used ffor this comparison. I hope it was the same for each machine. Why you didn't mention how the SMBIOS/board-id imposes a limit to the versions of macOS that can be installed natively on any of these machines (without using OpenCore) is a mystery to me.
@@JessiesFlying Relatively speaking, yes, but used prices are quickly going down. A Mac Pro means first and foremost expandability and customizability (speed is a consequence). One these Platforms are freaking Antiques from a bygone era. The fact that in an otherwise useless Benchmark session, he was able to demonstrate in that one lonely use example a tiny margin of 300-ish points, needs some real world clarification. One, He's comparing a Workstation/Server with a freaking Laptop, that's your 300pt advantage right there in the nutshell folks. Two Ya ever get the feeling hes not giving you the TCO Numbbers? 'Cause (at least for the cheesegrater I'm unsure about the Trashcan feel free to correct me), all the old Pros had 2x Xenons in them, as opposed to just the one Coffee Lake i9. Which strikes me as being better value if your actually going to use the thing. Third if your in need of a cheep Mac then why not checkout the newer M1 Macminis? Which are likely cheaper then a PS5 now? Im not saying to not pick one of these up, but for the money some of these are asking for in the neighbourhood of 1500$ or more. Me thinks ya gotta have a screw loose. For 150$/175$ sure. But, not much more.

I also would have used the power mods to your benefit as at this point it’s standard procedure to do so when you upgrade your gpu to a better variant..
You're right, but it wouldn't have changed the results at all....
You say in the 2012 MacPro you used the SAPPHIRE AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB card but in the picture of the card you used you show the "Pulse" version of this card the: SAPPHIRE PULSE AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB do both cards work equally well in the 2010-2012 MacPro models with no need to alter the power supply unit?
Yes, all Vega 56 work without power supply mod
Hi Jessie, may I know how to connect a 6-pin GPU into a 2012 Mac Pro please? Can I just use a mini 6-pin to 6-pin cable connecting to one of the mini 6-pin slot on the motherboard end? Or can I use a duo mini 6-pin to 8-pin cable while connecting to both mini 6-pin slots at the motherboard end and using only 6 pins on the GPU end?
I would prefer the second option to distribute the load to both connectors 👍
as suspected jessie. btw. are you in florida or texas atm?
Neither or - it's Arizona (near Phoenix) 😁
Hey Jessie when are you releasing your video for Ventura on 6,1 trash can Mac Pro? The latest patcher now fully supports everything on this
The problem is that my Trash Can is still sitting in Germany and then will be sitting in a container for 6 weeks to move over here... 😩
@@JessiesFlying oh I know the pain, happy to help wherever possible if you want testing done. I’ve got a fully maxed out one
@@krutikquiran8184 So if you would test 13.4 with OCLP 0.6.5 on the MacPro6,1 you could give me feedback and at least I can do an informational video about it!
@@JessiesFlying hi Jessie, I did a installation video of macOS Ventura on my main RUclips channel (TheMacintoshGuide) and will be doing a follow up video which will talk about performance of the machine. So far everything I have tested such as web browsing, development work with visual code, xcode, docker, jetbrainsand database apps all seem to be working normally. Stage manager is also seem to be quite stable and no issues on that. Performance seems to be exactly the same as Monterey
Not to mention that the 5,1 has 4 expansions sata sleds (ssd/hdd) and PCi for usb 3,2 cards, thunderbolt, and nvme expansion board. The 5,1 is one of the best value for a computer till the computers exists. The only con, they are heavy and you will hate them the day you have to move from your home to another...
You’re absolutely right!
Can a pcie thunderbolt card work in a 5,1 ?
@@LukeSchneiderEWI Theorically it could work, but from what I understand it's complicated... You can kill your computer for ever if you do something wrong... Read this comment on a site :
"So although DSM2 appears to have released the keys to unlocking Thunderbolt 3 on older Mac Pro computers, the path to get to it is not an easy one to take."
@@LukeSchneiderEWI didn't try it yet....
Which version of macOS was used ffor this comparison. I hope it was the same for each machine. Why you didn't mention how the SMBIOS/board-id imposes a limit to the versions of macOS that can be installed natively on any of these machines (without using OpenCore) is a mystery to me.
I tested a lot of Monterey and Ventura versions, didn’t make any (big) difference
Thanks Jessie !!!
You're welcome!
Thank you so much sir!
You're welcome!
What were the settings on the Heaven benchmarks?
Standard
hey jessie are we good to update to latest Ventura under open core 0.6.5 or are we still waiting
Already working on a video update - but you're good to go 😉
Comparing against the Intel Mac Pro 2019 (tower) would have been more Apples to Apples.
that's another financial league, don't you think?
@@JessiesFlying Relatively speaking, yes, but used prices are quickly going down. A Mac Pro means first and foremost expandability and customizability (speed is a consequence). In that regard, even the new Apple Silicon Mac Pro is a big step backward compared to a x86 cheesegrater, let alone a laptop.
There is no option price wise for MAC anymore, once the 2012 is over I am done with Apple.
very sad...
all 3 of these tested are basically obsolete now that a base m1 device is neck and neck with them.
Yes, but M1 doesn't run Windows nor eGPUs
@@JessiesFlying you can run parallels for windows. For egpu you would need a high end card like a 6800xt to make it worth while over investing more into a higher gpu core count up front. Otherwise you should just build a windows pc if you want to liberate yourself from the shackles of apple
there are bad MacPro tests results. three-channel RAM mode not used
Are you sure? I have to check that again… 🤔
@@JessiesFlying i'm sure, did tests with my pro4.1 (firmware 5.1)
Repeat after me. Throttle, throttle, throttle.
🚀
almost forgot - WELCOME TO THE USA JESSIE!!!
Thx! 😁
Only, if thrown from a skyscraper perhaps?
😂
wow. sun. palm trees. nice.
....great but so is my 2020 base M1 Mini 🥴
Nah, I didn’t compare Intel to apple silicon on purpose 😈
Yupppp… I’m so glad i sold my 2012 Mac Pro and got a m1 Mac mini. Big difference. I don’t miss that big tank size computer.
Power consumption… That is the point…
That’s right
You guys are talking about everything yet missing important thing.... Mac pro 5.1 is awesome fast machine with PSU which uses over 1kw/h of power and those xeons are using over 100w while MBP M1 is doing that same powerlifting on 5w-20w...... Old mac pro is a power house but those things are relics of past and other than sentimental reasons those belong to museum
Basically you’re right, mine is using about 200W during regular use. But it’s throwing away a perfectly working machine a good thing to create more electronic waste?
Ya know when I see Videos, like this one, a certain thought crosses my mind. Is this Cat trying to sell us something? Well if so great, but here's some arguments against it.
I agree, best bet is buying these for extremely cheap from schools and businesses as so many used them for workstations for various purposes.
@@empedance1933 Again I have no problems with cheap, but 600$ for a single socket, and well north of a grand for the dual socket. Is just not worth it.
nah, im sold my macbook and buy pc intel 13 + rtx = performance much better
But that’s a little as comparing apples and pears….
@@JessiesFlying yeah i already try both system, 4 my workflow, still prefer intel win nvidia system
Cap.
