      Now that I watched the video LOL... Texture definitely is everything. I've never tried them in an instant pot. I've made them a couple different ways. First way was boiling them till you can get a fork in them fairly easy. Then marinating them overnight and pan frying. I can never taste the carrot, it was all about that smokey hot doggy flavor with pickle relish, and onions and all that stuff. I've also made them where you put everything on the stove top, the marinade, the hot dogs poke and simmer them untill they're done. I liked the first way better because you have more control over the texture. My recipe sounded like yours except for one interesting ingredient and that's the jalapeno juice. I've got to try that! So glad you like them, they are wonderful 😊

      😂😂🙌🏼🙌🏼 Yesss that first batch definitely wasn’t soft enough. I’m going to try them on the stovetop next so I can watch how long it takes (and easily lift the lid to poke them!). I am guessing instant pot will work for 6-7 mins but I think I will have a better idea once I try stovetop-ing them like you suggested. 😄 Thanks for all your tips!

      I am obsessed over how good these turned out!! So surprised and so darned good when the texture is on point. I have seen someone else slice the carrots lengthwise which increases the surface area covered in the yummy marinade.. not a hot dog shape at that point but would still easily fit on a bun. I'm so glad I tried this!! New favorite marinade (and new favorite way to eat carrots lol).

      @@consciousobserver629 Yay!! Love to hear that! I was *honestly* so surprised as well. I've tried (store bought) carrot lox before and thought they still tasted a lot like carrots... but these carrot dogs didn't taste like carrots at all! Slicing them lengthwise is a great idea! Thanks for that tip! 🙌🏻

    I tried this before, I prefer the method of boiling the carrots in the marinate for 20-25 minutes. And adding tomato paste to give them a red color. It’s good, it tastes like a vegetable which is alright haha

    • @LetsEatPlants
      @LetsEatPlants  3 года назад +1

      Oh really!? I didn’t think these tasted like a vegetable at all! 😅 Did you use a similar marinade?

    • @hadi_alnabati
      @hadi_alnabati 3 года назад +2

      @@LetsEatPlants Yes I used a similar marinade to what you used, it has a smoky meaty flavour on the outside but the inside still tasted like a carrot for me which is not a bad thing it was good and I liked it :)

    • @LetsEatPlants
      @LetsEatPlants  3 года назад +1

      @@hadi_alnabati Interesting! I wonder if marinading them longer would help? 🤔 Although I agree it’s not necessarily a bad thing to have them taste like carrots, for this particular recipe I think the goal is to get them to *not* taste like carrots. 😝😝

    I made these on the 4th of July. I boiled the carrots, put them in the marinade over night and then grilled them. I thought they were very good.

      Nice!! Yes, I was so shocked at how yummy the flavor was (and how "realistic" as well. 😂😂) So glad you enjoyed! Hope you had a wonderful 4th as well. 🤗

    Nice to see your frank opinion on this. :-) I've tried freezing the carrots, then cooking them in the marinade. That seemed to help the texture of the finished hot dog. Good recipe!

  • @lizzybeedman7260
    @lizzybeedman7260 3 года назад +4

    Yesss I have some marinating in my fridge right now for my 4th of July dinner! I did well your worlds recipe of steaming the carrots first and then marinating them in a bag in the fridge overnight and I can’t wait to try it. They’re recipe used a bit more spices- cayenne paprika nutmeg and allspice, I think they’ll be really tasty! I feel the same about the firmness I let mine steam for like 25-30 min I do not wanna be biting into a crunchy raw carrot that would just ruin it for me!

    • @LetsEatPlants
      @LetsEatPlants  3 года назад +1

      Oooh how did they turn out!? The extra spices all sound delicious. 😋 Hahaha, yes... next time I will definitely cook them longer. 😂😂 Hope yours turned out great!!

    I find vegan hotdog/hamburger replacements kind of begin to approach the "real ones" when you smother them with enough toppings. But I've never found that they'd fool an omni. But healthier indeed, and all the other vegan benefits!

    • @LetsEatPlants
      @LetsEatPlants  3 года назад +2

      😂😂😂 Very well said! I totally agree... it's always all about the toppings. I don't think these will fool any omnis, but maybe impress? Maybe. 😅 I keep Beyond and Impossible for fooling, or at least, impressing. 😜

Even Q liked them and he is a lot more picky than me! Definitely don’t expect an exact hot dog dupe… but they’re surprisingly close. 😅

    I liked them but my husband was not so keen on them, he would rather have a vegan hotdog. It’s a good low fat options for me. 🙂 I marinated them for 24hrs in the fridge, also cooked the carrots in a pot of water and watched them to make sure they were the right texture.

    • @LetsEatPlants
      @LetsEatPlants  3 года назад

      Agree, not quite the same as a vegan hot dog! But you're definitely right about them being a good low-fat option. 😊 Sounds like I might have to try stovetop cooking them next so I can watch them a little more carefully. 😜 Thanks!

    I’m thinking of using baby carrots as they to my family don’t have the sweet tase of what we call “real” carrots. They could stick out the ends of the bun.

    • @LetsEatPlants
      @LetsEatPlants  3 года назад +1

      Great idea! I usually find the baby carrots sweeter actually, but if you find them less sweet, then that would definitely be a good option! 😄 I've actually seen people making the baby carrot ones into "pigs in a blanket" and wrapping them in some kind of puff pastry and baking them so they're like little sausage buns. Might be fun to try!

    I'm only GF at this point since I found out just about over 2 years ago at a local BIG naturopathic medical institute here in ATLANTA called Progressive Medical after 20+ years of chronic vertigo and other health issues and no answer from any other specialis I could find. I cut that out of my diet, along with soy because I'm intolerant from the allergy tests(and from cutting it out for 2 months & then having some it caused almost IMMEDIATE symptoms) I've gone GF but being a Baker and novice chef by trade, I always had a HELLACIOUS time digesting hotdogs or sausage(even though I ADORE it!) and burping it up even 5 hours after consuming it.
    I cut them out completely but will most DEFINITELY try this ASAP for the end of summer with my family and friends!
    Thanks a TON luv for this wonderful recipe!!!
