Plok (SNES) Boss Theme - Ultra HD Remastered!

- Edit 5-31-24: I just learned of the untimely passing of Geoff Follin. His and his brother's music will live on forever, and I wish I could thank him for all the smiles and tunes he helped put into my head over the decades. RIP, Chiptune God.
Tired of that muffled SNES sound and want to hear your favorite SNES songs in crispy clear quality? Well, purists, look away, here come the Ultra HD Remasters!
Specifically, I've rendered the songs out with no interpolation (that's what makes the SNES sound "fuzzy") and at 192KHz, added some subtle effects to ease the stereo panning, and then run it through LANDR to get that professionally mastered sound.
This is NOT faithful to original hardware and may not be as the original composers intended it to sound.
Original song by Tim and Geoff Follin, aka the chiptune gods!
Remaster by rchrdcrg.
As a thank you for this being such a huge view getter, here's a half-hearted attempt at the Beach theme for anyone who wants to listen: drive.google.c...

This song has no reason to slap this hard, but it does. It really pushed the SNES' soundchip, it feels like.
@Apple So the composer really knew what he did. Damn.
Nintendo actually considered publishing Plok and Shigeru Miyamoto was at first incredulous about the soundtrack when he got to play. He thought that the console had been modified or that the cartridge used a special sound chip.
Nope, it was just a Tim Follin soundtrack.
Anyway, Nintendo ultimately declined to publish, citing that the game was too similar to something they were already working on; when the big leak happened last year an SNES prototype was discovered which has a player character with similarly disconnected limbs. It's hypothesized that it was proof of concept for a Donkey Kong platformer, but was abandoned and the team behind it created Yoshi's Island after.
@@bootblacking yeah, super donkey?

You give Tim Follin an NES soundchip and he becomes an all time great.
You give Tim an SNES soundchip, however... and he becomes a GOD.
Nope,thats on the genesis
This goes double for adaptations of other composers' work (see "Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends" on Super Nintendo)
>when you give Tim Follin a 1-bit piezoelectric beep speaker on the ZX Spectrum
Normally I prefer the SNES compression, but this song bangs so damn hard it deserves crystal clarity.
Excellent work.
I second this notion
I wasnt around when it was in its hype, but I had one growing up, but I STILL agree
i fourth this notion
I fifth this notion
I six on this notion, also I prefer restored theme not "HD"
Not only was Plok's soundtrack ahead of its time in obvious technical aspects, but I feel it was pretty experimental in its usage of genres and styles; I mean, this could probably pass as a fan made 16 bit remix of an obscure modern day synthwave song in the vein of artists like Carpenter Brut or Pertubator, it's so different from much of the music in games at the time. This is also present in other tracks like the Beach theme (which I'd LOVE to hear get the same treatment), but it's most obvious here.
Maybe you'd be interested in the best parts of the New Beat genre

and that the name already gave an illusion to the new musical genre called drift phonk or simply phonk, which in turn if you remove the l and put the h and then the n before finishing the k there would already be that new name of the musical genre that In years to come, it would be a reality of that name thanks to a title of a game that was too advanced and also further explaining the composition of the music for this game!!!!
@treese_ I have good news then. Look up Plok - Beach (Restored) by Senn and melt away.
Quick reminder that Tim Follin hates video games and still produces absolute bangers
I wonder if that explains why half the games he did music for are terrible, lol!
@@RichardCraig that probably explains why he doesnt like them!
Tim Follin did design/direct a game a few years ago.
Contradiction Spot the Liar
He hates working on games that give him any sort of creative direction*
It's the reason why he always worked on smaller games, he got to do whatever he wanted.
It all makes sense now, like every game he did that was a port had totally unique music. Super Off-Road for SNES comes to mind for sure, not a single song from the original game, but it's still amazing.

I actually have, but I'm not satisfied with it. I might post it anyway, it's just that I didn't have access to individual channels, so effects like reverb and such run across the whole song, and it makes some instruments sound muddy and weird and too far from the original sound.
