You are really awesome teacher and even better player. Hard to get both of these qualities in one. Thanks a lot in making my piano journey beautiful ✨😁
Dude, you are my light in the dark. Not only do you radiate such a warm, genuine, and inviting energy, but you also do the marvelous job of showing the notes like they would appear in a DAW. I'm currently drawing in most of my melodies and chord progressions, and being able to see the names of the keys being used is something I've only seen you do. I am so unbelievably grateful for this extra bit if effort on your end. Just thank you man, you're so friggin' cool
Hi my friend a blessed day for you i have a question about this lesson can i use this technique when i have a one bar of the same chord? Thank you very much
I'm starting to notice a pattern in piano tutorials. They're based around learning a new simple thing and working it in within the framework of what I already know
I signed up to get the resource/cheat sheet, but the resource sheet I was emailed was only the first page of the PDF! Hope this can get fixed, been learning the chords but I feel like I'm using the wrong fingering and making it harder on myself. Thanks again for the videos!
This is exactly how I want to learn to play! Would love to see the pedal action especially in the example you play at 3min in, it sounds so smooth I'm trying to replicate it perfectly. Are you tapping the pedal again with each inversion or with the actual note change?
good seeing you again, Simon! Have a question -the tomes G, A, Bb, D played together = Gm9? adding the 2nd tone make the chord a “9”, right? Why is the note F there? hope you understand what I’m saying
The 2 chords feature every note between A to G with only 1 accidental appearing (B flat). The key signatures that fit that particular pattern of accidentals are F major and D minor. The D minor chird features in the chord progression along with its 4th scale degree (A very pleasant connection) so logically the most likely key is D minor. The minor blues scale can be played over a piece of music in a minor key. The minor blues scale is the minor pentatonic scale with an added flattened 5th degree. The minor pentatonic scale is the natural (Aeolian) minor key omitting the 2nd and 6th scale degrees. In D minor the pentatonic is D, F, G, A and C. Just add the flattened 5th to get the blues scale D, F, G, Ab, A and C. The borrowed note (Ab) is what will lend the piece a blues feel.
D minor and F major are the same key. The F major blues scale is exactly the same as the D minor blues scale. They're exactly the same but if you prefer to think about it as F major then do that 🙂
a question to these 2 min9 chords. what i know so far is that a minor 9th chord includes the 7th note, right? and a ninth is the 13th note from the root, so an octave above the root plus a half step, the 13th. i you video it is the 14th , so a major step. why is that? i always thought that a minor 9th is the 13th, a major 9th the 14th step over the root ?
The best way to look at it is in scale degrees. In the key of D minor there is one accidental on the 6th degree (the note of B). The 9th chord contains the D minor triad and the 9th degree of the scale. The 9th degree is the same note as the 2nd degree so in the case of D minor an E. So you have the Dm triad (D F A), the 7th degree (C) and the 9th degree (E). In regards to semitones it's 14 semitones apart but scale degrees is a more useful way to look at it in my opinion.
I appreciate this video so much. Not being able to afford a tutor but finding great content like this is priceless! I plan on doing this exercise with all keys moving through the circle of fifths. Thank you
What key are these two chords in, please? And what position are the chords? Is a vamp always i / iv? Absolute basic questions I know but theory confuses me very easily :)
They are in Dm or Fmaj. A vamp can be any chord progression. Vamp: www.oxfordmusiconline.com/grovemusic/view/10.1093/gmo/9781561592630.001.0001/omo-9781561592630-e-2000463200 TLDR: A vamp is a thematic ostinato played to support a solo as an intro and/or outro.
The progression is in D minor. I encourage you to learn every inversion (position) in the video. A vamp is just a small bit of music looped over and over.
I am trying to do the same but in Amin minor scale. I play Cmaj9 and Amin9 chords but everytine I am playnig blue note in fill notes, it started to sound very wierd :( if I play fill notes just in pentatonic scale it sounds normal. Should I play different chords or may be I need just more practice?
I'm transforming into a piano piglet.
you're a wonderful teacher. thank you
You're welcome!
So so clever and something I intend to practice and learn from - thank you
Awesome video! Please make more lessons like this with different chords and minor blues scales! 😎

hope you understand what I’m saying
Gm7/9 man....
The F is the 7th of G.
..usually when a (9) is added to most chords Major or minor , the (7) is naturally included in the chord, for perfect chord harmony or chord balance.
Wow, excately what I am looking to learn atm! This is incredibly helpful, thanks a lot! Absolutely made my day :]
That's great to hear! I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊

Amazing! Just one question in order to apply it, how did you identify the scale is the Dm blues scale?
I have the same question. How to identify Dm as the "root scale" not the way around?
The 2 chords feature every note between A to G with only 1 accidental appearing (B flat). The key signatures that fit that particular pattern of accidentals are F major and D minor. The D minor chird features in the chord progression along with its 4th scale degree (A very pleasant connection) so logically the most likely key is D minor.

Nice tips! Thanks
No worries!
Thanks man
It's my pleasure! Hope you found it useful 🙂
Nice.
You said it was in D minor but it is also in F major, so can we use the F Major Blue Scale instead of the D minor blue Scale?
D minor and F major are the same key. The F major blues scale is exactly the same as the D minor blues scale. They're exactly the same but if you prefer to think about it as F major then do that 🙂
So helpful 🔥
That's awesome to hear! 🙂
Great, thanks!
