Have had this guitar for 6 years. Only issues were with the saddle which I eventually replaced. But the guitar has a beautiful sound, you're definitely right that it is noticeably louder when using a pick. Trying most other guitars at a similar price range I end up disappointed when comparing it to this one.
I couldn’t believe how good the action, neck angle etc was when I took mine out of the box. After I tweaked it with a bone saddle and bridge pins, and strung it with Elixir 12’s, she really sings. I play live several times a week and this is my preferred guitar with my Takamine P1dc as a very reliable backup. Absolutely amazing for the price
+HUTCHfromBA Thanks mate :-) The new one is coming along really quickly which is surprising and awesome :-). I don't want to jinx it but we have a lot of the parts already finished.
These are beautiful guitars! Michael, who used to run the GT open mic, his son has 1 of these, I played, it was amazing! Definitely one of Epis BETTER acoustics. VERY close to its Gibson J200 parent! These guitars are MEANT to be flat picked!
Purchased one recently (vintage natural) and have had a Martin D-18 for 40 years and yes..they sound different but for under $500 you simply CAN'T go wrong?
I have the same guitar in right hand drive I bought mine second hand (pawnshop) with the original hard shell case, both in near pristine condition for 300 dollars American. Looking back it was a steal I love mine will never part with
I've always preferred the understated look of the SJ-100. It would be nice if Epiphone did an EJ-100, or even better a vintage version with vintage style tuners. I'd find it very hard to resist. Regarding GAS. I seem to have it for every other thing I look at at currently. I constantly have two tabs open in my browser. One checking out a demo on RUclips and the other dedicated to checking the price.
You play really nice. I have the EJ-200 CE/VS and these guitars record really nice and sound great live with stereo p/u blended together. My pickguard wore out so I ended up taking it off and the guitar still looks great and these guitars sound better as they age a bit. Really good playing. Peace, Michael Angelo
Thanks Wallace. I can do that in the future for sure. I also ran the Tonerite system on this guitar as well so it should hopefully sound nicer now than when I got it.
nice playing I just got a J200 and they are much deeper because of the absence of the cutaway I might have bought this guitar but they don't seem to do a full body guitar. It has to be a Gibson with a sneeze. achibson!! if you get the drift.
Great video and appreciate your honesty opinions of it. How does it compare to a dreadnought size? Also do you happen to know what strings are on it? Sounds awesome. Thanks
I saw one today at my local pawnshop and that's why I'm here. Always liked the looks , wonder if you still have after all these years. Guitars come and go with me🤣, then I regret a few. Cheers
Did you ever end up getting it? I’ve been o seeded with this guitar but have no play to try it. I could order from GC and return it but would rather buy something I’m keeping. I feel you on the regrets. I sold a Gibson 3 pickup black beauty and a Les Paul Junior that I absolutely regret. I see what they go for now and it just depresses me.
@@dannymartinez3600 no it got sold, bummer! i didn't want to throw a creditcard at it, you hhow that goes. no cash no buy🤣. as for regrets, ive got a big list🤣. i just picked up a cheap japanese tele copy from the 70's. this one im keeping.
Yes. If you put too much varnish or polyurethane on a guitar top it will smother the tone. I have an EJ-200sce, and I am disappointed with the acoustic sound. It does not sound anywhere near as loud acoustically as it should.
You must try the Martin 000-15SM (slotted headstock, 12-fret, all solid mahogany)! Amazing guitar for the money and my favorite for finger style blues!
Nice job on the Epi Shane. This is my first view here (on referral from Will's Easy Guitar) and I'm definitely going to check out more of your stuff, and your music as well. As for the guitar itself, I was pleasantly surprised. However the godawful daisy wheel pick guard and mustache bridge may have had something to do with the "free dress" sign lol. For a non-recording hack like myself, the mic placement demo was eye opening as well. Thanks and carry on...cheers!👍
+LightningDogg Thanks mate, most appreciated. I always try and mic away from the hole to prevent too much low end. :) Some people like to use two mics but one is enough if it's in the right spot :).
+HUTCHfromBA well you sure would be surprised if you would try out Harley Benton guitars of same model, you basically get more for the money you pay ;)
Great guitar I went to the store and tried one and I'm kind of picky about my guitars but I liked this one so well I bought two of them LOL... By the way thanks for all of your reviews on gear you do a most excellent job much better than most of the others out there I always look for your reviews first thanks for doing what you do 😎👍
Congrats! I have enjoyed mine for the last year or so. Curious to hear how your neck pickup balances against the bridge. My guitar has had a real problem with the bridge overpowering the neck.
I want one of these - wich string gauge are you using in this demo Shane? -They only have the black one at the store, but I want the natural one... hmmz! -Tnx for a nice video.
In talks with someone about picking up this guitar (13 years old). Dude has used it for years playing live. Asked about action, neck/fretboard condition, etc. Think this guitar has held up over time? Also - how the f**k do you play so well without a pick? I personally can't use a pick. Index finger; but I tear up the side of my finger. How do you go about using the side of your thumb?
Hey mate. The guitar was great but I only kept it for the purpose of recording an album and sold it. It’s great, but it’s a bit too big for me. I’m not the tallest guy and I wouldn’t buy a jumbo again. It looks great and played well but the size was a bit of downer after a while for me.
Thanks for your insight. I'm only 6ft tall & slender myself. I have a small closet recording space, so a jumbo might not be the best idea... But for $350 - $400 (Canadian $) the guy is asking; I feel I can't go wrong... Even just to resell if it's not for me. Haha But yeah, your thumb strumming skills... Do you have a video demonstrating the technique? Or could point me in the right direction? 😊
Hi Shane and everybody, great demo and comments, thanks. I got this natural finish EJ200SCE so good for brilliant highs. I tested the same model in black finish, it did not give same tone as the natural finish, less brilliant. I like to play the Pete Townshend songs with it, noticeably Pinball Wizard with energetic strumming ( but no windmill ). Incredible quality/ price ratio !
I have this guitar but recently changed the strings, I want to know what the original strings were, if they were phosphor bronze or bronze etc. I know they're daddarios
+kdrake777 It played perfectly off the shelf at the shop. I haven't had to do anything with it at all which is great. :-) That was part of the reason I got it because it played really nicely.
Sorry to hear that G.A.S has another victim shane. It's a terrrible disease that can afflict us anytime anywhere without warning.Bank managers, wifes, girlfriends the world over are pulling out chunks of hair out through sheer frustration because of this terrrible malady. But do not despair there is a movement of brave individuals out there now putting up a brave fight against this destroyer of harmony. You are not alone! there are steps you can take to defeat this almighty foe like blocking guitar websites on your computer and also programing GPS's in your car to avoid streets with guitar stores on them.Wifes as we speak are hiding atm cards and are threatening no loving for lengthy durations. As you know there is no cure but we can lessen the symptoms.Take care stay strong! P.s my latest bout was at xmas it manifested itself in the form of a mim plus top strat with maple fretboard.I'm still sleeping on the lounge!!!!

I have had Taylors, have Ovations, and many other. ANd I LOVE this guitar.
Shane, I just bought one ... ordered the black one. Thanks in part to this demo.
Mine is set to be delivered tomorrow. If it sounds as good as yours, i will be very happy. Been playing 56 years now.
Any good?

Was the original saddle not a bone one ?
Your new album, "The Change I Need" is Awesome Shane ! I can't wait for you next one mate. Blues On....
+Daz Jay Gee Thanks so much mate :-)
+HUTCHfromBA Thanks mate :-) The new one is coming along really quickly which is surprising and awesome :-). I don't want to jinx it but we have a lot of the parts already finished.
@@intheblues do you have a radio on Spotfy? Im trying to find by the words Shane, Change I Need e In the blues but I didn't succeed
Lovely playing, I have that guitar in sunburst! Makes me feel good to see someone of your calibre owning and playing one
Love the intro clip! Love that acoustic tone too and I'm not normally acoustic guy!

I have two Epiphone Ej200's both non-cut away. Love them both! :) Glad you like the guitar.
Lol any chance you'd sell one?
Two EJ-200. Do you use them for different purposes?
Purchased one recently (vintage natural) and have had a Martin D-18 for 40 years and yes..they sound different but for under $500 you simply CAN'T go wrong?
I tried one out in Dawson's music a couple of years ago. I didn't want to put it down... Had to tear myself away.
Good thing that you show the pick importance
Great sound and so good to see my own guitar and hear it mic'd up look forward to hearing your plugged in review .

Great review! Excellent sound! Thanks for helping me decide...
mighty fine playin'
Hi Shane thanks for all you do on YT.
Do you still have this guitar and if so are you still loving it?
Regards, Steve
Really great video. thank you!
I would like to hear some more acoustic licks on this guitar now that some time has passed and the top has settled/relaxed in some.
Thanks Wallace. I can do that in the future for sure. I also ran the Tonerite system on this guitar as well so it should hopefully sound nicer now than when I got it.

Excellent review my friend!
I love this guitar !!! I need to buy it !

It does not sound anywhere near as loud acoustically as it should.
It needs heavy strings to make that thick top vibrate
4:11 i see what you did there hahaha good one
beautifully played
+Troy Williams Thanks Troy! :)
What's the difference of the two Epiphones ce or ces
I believe the "S" designates single cutaway.
Sounds great, mate! Good choice!
+bentertainment115 Thanks Ben :-)
Three years later, would you still recommend it? I'm looking at one they're selling used. Thanks, Shane.
Marco Lalama just bought one so nice mate
Yeah mate these are best for country so yeah I would
You must try the Martin 000-15SM (slotted headstock, 12-fret, all solid mahogany)! Amazing guitar for the money and my favorite for finger style blues!
....that's my next guitar.......I need a super- jumbo...........
Would it possible to gig without an amp ? Even in a small place ?
how is it compared to the Hummingbird Pro ?
Anyone tried the new Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J200? Just wondering what it sounds like compared to this one?

I was just looking at one of these and thought I should look for a play vid... Who do I find, Shane! :)
Se puede tocar fingerstyle con esa guitarra?
Agus 007b*-* puedes tocar fingerstyle con cualquier guitarra acústica... No tiene que ser clásica. 🤷🏼♂️
Wow.Where can I find left handed model of this?
? just flip the guitar around.
By the way the Epiphone is a great choice. Dollar for dollar it's the best. Even for slide. Blues On....
+HUTCHfromBA well you sure would be surprised if you would try out Harley Benton guitars of same model, you basically get more for the money you pay ;)
Che Guebuddha I'll have to check them out.
nice guitar

You bought two?
The cutaway keeps it from sounding big, I tried the cutaway and a non-cutaway version and the cutaway takes away a lot from the unplugged sound.
Congrats! I have enjoyed mine for the last year or so. Curious to hear how your neck pickup balances against the bridge. My guitar has had a real problem with the bridge overpowering the neck.
Gauge of strings you got on? I’ve got 13s on mine and I’m not feeling it 😒
Hi, did it play like that straight out of the box or did it need a set up for your style and preference ?
I want one of these - wich string gauge are you using in this demo Shane? -They only have the black one at the store, but I want the natural one... hmmz! -Tnx for a nice video.
What's the difference between ej200sce and ej200ce?
I was wondering that also. I'm pretty sure they are the same.
sce is "Solid" that means better than ce
+Okan cnkny I got an EJ200SCE. I love it

I got one in black
Thick pic.. What thickness do you use... I would also like to hear it next to the Gretch Jumbo...
+greg urbani It's a 2.6 mm Chicken Pick. Sounds thick, but the edge is thinner than that they totally rock. :)
+intheblues thanks I have watched many of your vids...
Thank you Greg :-)
I have this guitar but recently changed the strings, I want to know what the original strings were, if they were phosphor bronze or bronze etc. I know they're daddarios

Jorge Olvera You can play any guitar without an amplifier...
Duh, it's an acoustic. And you can play any guitar without an amp.
I see one in a thrift shop I'm thinking about...left handed like you but it's right handed...still thinking about it...thoughts anyone?
How much..get it..didya?
Non-cutaway > cutaway
