Mostly we said "Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth..." and then we just trailed off.
Or we just called it the "I Been Downhearted Baby" song.

@@keef78 Yes, the word he is singing is EVER. And when the band sings it, they pronounce it "ever". BB King pronounces is as "every". Go back and listen to the difference between the two.

A melancholy masterpiece with a truly dark sense of humor. Musically reminds me a bit of the 7" mix (video) of "How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously?" (1991) by Pet Shop Boys.

Howard Stern played this every morning while shooting his movie, just the BB King part. The whoosh sound I assumed is the plane to Baltimore in the lyrics but who knows. Should try Soul Coughing now, they were big at the same time.

As the channel needs about 3,600 more subscribers to hit 50K, I had an idea that may or may not be worthwhile. As the milestone event gets close, the guys could put up a poll on the channel's "Community" page. This poll would ask viewers to vote on (say) what 5 or 10 past videos (chosen by the guys) that they should rewatch and comment on as new review videos for part of the 50K spectacular. For instance, it might be fascinating and entertaining to see/hear the guys rewatch and talk about the original Al Stewart, Boz Scaggs, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, and Gerry Rafferty videos that they did that helped put the channel "on the map" for a lot of viewers. Anyways, just an idea to keep in mind as we get ever so closer to that awfully impressive 50K subscriber number. 😁

As you mentioned this song is loosely based on the Bruce Cockburn (pronounces Co-burn) song.
I don't recall you ever checking out any of his music here. He is a magnificent guitarist and songwriter. Sort of started as a folk musician and definitely got more rocking later.
A good introduction would be "Wondering Where the Lions Are" from his 1979 album "Dancing in the Dragon's Jaws" .
I don't know if I'd call him a one hit wonder because he has put out about 30 albums over 50 years and is immensely popular in Canada but that song is probably the closest he came to charting in the US.

Instead of being passive-aggressive, a lot of early/mid 90s alt music was passive-sad. It wasn't a bad sound but there's a reason why it didn't really make it out of the 90s.

Learn or exposed to something new every day and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Not going on my play list but I usually enjoy your guy's response or reaction,I don't like calling it a reaction because there's no epi pen coming out.

Like the best throughout the song. It certainly is different sounding. A lot going on at once. I may need to listen a few more times.
Last year in Door County I walked thru 6" of snow to go in a Phonebooth. I ended up in a boot for 9 weeks for popping my knee and ankle. If you look back a few posts I revisited said phone booth again in March, and did not fall and there was no snow.
I want to say this gave me Tom's Diner vibes. A lot songs in the 90's had that beat. Glad you did another type of genre. You are always willing to hear new music and want to love new music.

Great job from the guys as they actually convinced me that this song wasn't like the same 1990s musical trash that I lived through and rebelled against at the time. I was ready to put the "hammer" down until the guys' energy really took hold and the piano solo kicked in. The BB King hook is pure "fire," but that's not enough to always get a song where it needs to be. The final point that won me over was when the lead singer sang the hook sample near the end, which is so rare. A definitely unique song and one I'm glad I stuck with to the end.
I just have to mention before people may jump in that the song with a similar title (which is the top link above) is from a highly respected Canadian artist named Bruce Cockburn (which I believe is pronounced "Co-burn"). He is also well known for the song "Lovers In A Dangerous Time," the second link above. There's also a cover version by Barenaked Ladies from a Bruce Cockburn tribute album as the third link above.
I also wanted to mention that Nick was likely referring to "Walk On The Wild Side" (a one hit wonder in its own right) by Lou Reed with the background vocals.
Finally, it's great to learn that Ty MAY be able to start participating more in just a few months. While Nick and Ryan are killing it, getting "the dream team" back together more regularly can only lead to even better things. 😁 Great job by the guys as I was very ready to write this off as a bad Beck song but I came away far more impressed than I should have been.
So, let's keep this marathon firing on all cylinders, friends! 😀
