One of the most vastly underappreciated songs from the 90s...excellent lyrics and the BB King hook is a catcher.
They usto play this on the radio 24/7 here in Houston then everyone just forgot about it
True....Go Raiders ☠️🏴☠️💀
*That song is pure art.*
"We sit outside and argue all night long
about a god we've never seen
but never fails to side with me"
I always had a deep appreciation for that part.
Gen Xer here. One of my favorite songs EVER. TY for doing this.❤
The BB King sample is from "How Blue Can You Get." I can't tell you why but I've always liked this tune. It's a shame they never really followed it up with another strong effort.
The album is different but great
That was definitely a vibe. Never heard these guys before. Glad to see you venturing away from the mainstream.
It had major radio play
90’s was a long time ago
It's such a deep song. I feel like the 3rd line is perfectly written, though they're all good. The song has always been a sort of warning to me, maybe. It seems like the point of so much of life as I get older is just getting money, retirement, investments, houses, schools, degrees, and these things that people seem to only want to talk about. Or maybe Marvel movies, this or that. But the singer has deep thoughts he can't easily put together, thoughts about life's purpose, meaning, or maybe feelings he can't even put together, and he wants so desperately to speak them to someone, but he's standing outside a broken telephone booth with money in his hand. If he dies before he learns to speak, can money pay for all the days he lived awake but half asleep? What a crushing, powerful, rhetorical question. We all know the answer, but nobody seems to know the answer. He sings it steadily and quietly, almost speaking each verse, until the sounds of the rotary phone show up at the end, the bell tolls, and he cries out B.B. King's line--"I've been downhearted, ever since the day we met."
I love the 90s. I think it is about a group of friends pondering life. A little like Seinfeld. Random conversations about nothing. But sometimes they turn out very deep
I still feel if we remembered every stuper conversavion we would be politicians lol
I rocked to this in my 20's in the 90's
Me too. The 90s were the greatest
I didn't read all the comments, so forgive me if it was already said. The sounds of planes taking off and landing is because the singer/writer worked as an air traffic controller while he was waiting for fame to find him.
B.B. King singing in the background. Great tune.
One of the best song of the 90s.
This is one of my favorites song!!!
I love the 90's.
Great Job reacting to this Song!!!
My interpretation of, "Can money pay for all the days I've lived awake but half-asleep" is that he is wondering if he can make up for all the times he should have seen the whole picture and paid attention, but didn't...seems to imply that he was "Sleepwalking" through life...
I used to think using BB was just using a snip to have a recognized snip. No. it's perfect. I think it means humanity has been downhearted ever since being introduced to god.
I think this song is about having in important message for all of man kind but soo many things keep me he messag from being passed along. He's got the money in his hand to make an important phone call but the payphone is broken.
Actually the artist said in an interview when he sung BB's part he was yelling at god.
Di Shields, you have enriched my musical experiences twice in one day. Thanks for that. Nice reaction Harri. 🌺✌️
AHHHHH THIS SONG.... 1996 one of best alternative rock songs it year....
For far one of my favorite songs ever!
Fun fact. That static radio signal says help me. Help
Love the groove this song has!
I remember listening to this song religiously during my early 20s while in university. I dealt with terrible generalized anxiety back then and still do to this day, but this music always had a calming effect on my soul.
Have loved this song for ages
Take a Walk on the Wild Side. The drum beat and the background vocals reminded me of the same song by Lou Reed. It's a great song but reminds me of 3 combo songs. Very enjoyable.
Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and DiShields. Something new. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Cheers mate
Song always reminded me of Lou Reid's Walk On The Wild Side as well. great observation.
brilliant song from UK
The band is from California.
I have heard this before, I'm sure. Liked it a lot.
Thank you, brother
walk on the wild side 🥰
🖤
Good group they were made for being in a movies and tv soprano and many others
One of my fav parts is when the vocalist sings the L Armstrong part at the end, taking turns with him
You mean B.B. King.
5:35 why does every copy I've heard of this have a stutter at that point? I know it isn't in the song but every digital copy seems to have been mastered from one with a stutter. Has no-one thought to edit it out in all this time???
I love this song. I used to hear it a lot on the radio.
Their song, “paper doll is really good
Thanks for your reaction!
This guy was an air traffic controller from California
❤
One of my absolute favorites from the 90s. One hell of a vibe. The title was taken from a Bruce Cockburn (co-burn) song, but if you want into get into Bruce it's not the best of his ouevre! Try "Wondering Where the Lions Are" or "Rocket Launcher"
I've been downhearted baby
Do more videos bro. And dive deep. Everyone does the same old shit. Love for someone, anyone to react to Good Feelings by Violent Femmes. Heartbreaking underlooked song.
Drowning in misery//////
Check out "Have You Seen Her" by the Chi Li's
Beautiful suggestion. 👍✌️🇨🇦
I do hope the sample was done with approval, and BB King got payments for his chorus. Back in the 90's, several cases when samples were not done in the proper manner.
This is a memorable tune, from "then" -glad that you have experienced 'now' Harri.
the best unheard one hit wonder ever made. This like all one hit wonders: This song is amazing but is nothing like the rest of the albums because they always needed a radio hit or MTV to make it
Low key 90s jam
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wonder how much BB King made off that sample
This is a fantastic song, but Lou reed would be like comparing them not to apples and oranges. It would be like comparing them to apples and automobiles ❤❤❤❤❤
10th lord represent your permanent servants. 3rd lord are thos who do a one-time job for you each time. The 6th lord represents you serving the boss.
If your 10th lird is strong, because of your pwer (and not luck, past life crdfits etc.), most of the problems mentioned in the song on how to get by life do not exist at all for you.
great song, worst piano solo in music history
