I remember my professor telling us to talk about our project as if we were talking to his 8 year old son. We always were trying to use fancy jargon and terminologies. It makes sense. Not all jury members are architecture people.
I couldn't agree more! One of my pet peeves is people who constantly use archi speak!! I think being able to explain things simply and clearly is a real strength.

Nice video and great tips! An old instructor once said word choice is very important as well - using "grand" instead of big, "cozy" instead of small. Basically using the positive version of words, and it will rub off on the critics.
Ahhhh yeah that's really great advice.. These little details matter! I also try to be conscious about using positive reinforcement during discussions, like "that's interesting and..." instead of "that's interesting but..."

The quality of information and video production. Really deserve more credit on this and as an architecture student how did you find the time in a day to do this 🤯
If there's one thing I know for sure it's that most of what you learn in architecture, you learn on the job!! Our design lecturer is always saying we still have some way to go in terms of presentation...and a 5 minute presentation I had to do for our joint online class 2 weeks ago proved that my communication skills still needed work. My concept was good (i feel happy about it and the lecturer commentef positively on it too during our sit-down critique) but I felt like my layouts didn't convey much, spent too much time on the concept too and not on my design drawings or it's functionality. What I'm learning will help with the final presentation though.😁 thank you✨
I am not even an architecture student yet...but yet the happiness and relaxation I have right now by seeing your vedio being uploaded....ah! Can't express it through words!🥺😻 P.S I had a pretty rough day at school...but YOU INSPIRE ME not just to be an architect but to not give up!!!! thank you
Awww thank you and I'm sorry you had a rough day at school...!! Just Discovered your Channel. I love your content so much. Can I ask what software do you use in your technical drawings, rendering, post-editing of photos, and your 'slide presentations'. I am currently a third year student and I want to improve my presentations.
I use Revit for ortho drawings (sometimes fix it up in illustrator), illustrator for diagrams, rhino-vray / revit-enscape for renderings, photoshop to touch up the rendered images, and indesign for the presentation layouts 😊
So when you begin a project like this, is the surveying data supplied to you, or is that something you'd have to go looking for at city hall, or something. Thank you so much for your tips! Due to the current pandemic situation, I have to prepare a video of presentation of my project and send to the audience. Do you have any ideas or tips on this particular situation? I mean I will not be present with the audience and see their actions or have A/Q time at the end of my presentation. Thanks!
Great question. Most of our client presentations at the office are now online, and we make a point to stop them presentation and ask for feedback more often. We prepare more graphics to get the ideas through. I see this being the norm in the future, so consider it a good preparation for the real world 😁
Sure I can make video on how I put together these presentations. But for learning the softwares themselves, there's tons of good tutorials online for learning different types of architecture software! I use rhino, sketchup, illustrator for diagrams, photoshop, and indesign to compile everything and make these slides 😊
You can expect something similar, but a much much simpler project brief and building (if even that). You will learn architectural concepts and develop the *ideas* building or building elements, but probably not a full scale building like the projects I'm showing here. First year is all about learning and failing - which is also why I didn't include my first year projects in here (because they were... S$#%.) 😂😂😂
