- Pikmin 4 is here! And I'm recording my playthrough so I can chronicle my thoughts and reactions as they happen!
We're visiting not one but two caves in the game's 4th area, the second of which in particular is a lovely throwback and an interesting challenge! By the end, I redeem my Dandori by getting a platinum in the challenge I just barely finished last episode, complete with some play-by-play commentary!
Music used at the dedication at the end is an excerpt from "Lament" composed by Malcolm Williamson, performed by the Northern Sinfonia.

@@bigbadgammagnome when i first played pikmin 4, i was reluctant to call oatchi by his name, since it didn't feel right on my tongue, so i just kept calling him "otis", but i'm more accepting of "oatchi" now, i just use "otis" to myself whenever i play a new file

Fun Fact: Although the Gildemander's tongue is pretty easy to dodge, it can actually eat 100 at once if they all get caught it in, making it one of very few enemies that can kill 100 pikmin at once
I tested different enemies in the pikplopedia for that because I noticed the "limit" they put on most enemies for killing pikmin and to my surprise even the crushing enemies had it
@@tchok Which is why the cannon larva "only" got 10 pikmin. Could have been even more tragic! I remember pikmin 2 when there was no limit...

I love the cartoony bonks scruffy adds to when the Pikmin hits the breadbugs on the head

If I'm not mistaken, Oatchi gets those suspicious eyes whenever he's near an enemy but its still cute to imagine that its only towards Moss
Every episode keeps getting longer and I am not complaining.
Edit: I'm glad every pikmin player I watch are pacifist towards breadbugs. THEY'RE TOO PRECIOUS TO HARM.

18:14 that is correct, if you have 100 in your squad and enter a cave, wild pikmin are replaced with candypop buds of their respective color
cant wait for scruffy to bring up "Comedic Clarity" when oatchi plows through an enemy causing a bowling pin noise
I love how Moss dosen't eat the carrot because she thinks it's a "Pikmin" Carrot so she keeps barking trying to call out the pikmins

I believe after 100 Pikmin enter the field, wild Pikmin don't fully disappear, they just become Candypop Buds.
Ooooooh that's why I saw a sudden candypop bud in a cave I already explored before (with less pikmin)
The little sound effects on the breadbugs is so cute and a wonderful detail in editing
Fun fact: Yellow pikmin are the only pikmin in this game with a different digging speed. They dig a whopping 4 times faster than all other types, making them the ideal pikmin to dig up treasures (besides Oatchi when fully leveled up on digging, who is just on a whole new level entirely)
Here’s terrifying fact! That Gildemander’s tongue can catch up to a hundred pikmin at once! So if you weren’t careful during that fight, you can lose your whole squad of 100 in one attack!
I was sweating during him fighting it for this reason
I love how *FLUFFY* the Breadbugs are now. While Louie has described them as "utterly bland" before, and I know they're not actually made of bread... they *do* look so perfectly baked. They're also so cute in how stubborn they are - even if it means they dent their noggins' against the hull of the S.S. Beagle. They never once consider that maybe letting go is an option... so very cute.
That post-recording narration was really interesting. It honestly felt like you were making a Voyage Log entry of your own! Well done on clearing one of the most grueling Dandori Challenges out there. (Though never let your guard down... There's always more hills to climb!)

So does Moss think the Pikpik carrot is a pikmin like other enemies and is basically just like "Hey, why aren't you following me?! Come on!" instead of eating them? lol

Probably the excuse of the ship carries Oatchi up there in the first place XD
but that causes a "if x had y power why didn't he/she use y power to do x the entire time" as why couldn't it carry him before they went into the cave?@@amberthepuppeteer
@@WohaoG because Shepherd didn't want you to make Oatchi lazy and ruin generations of training is what I think, the pup needs to run around XD

It's worth noting that candypop buds also count as wild Pikmin, so the listing may not always be 100% accurate.
oh my god i never thought he'd make an episode this long, now it's only a matter of time until he makes a 2+ hour long episode 😭

25:50 By the way, falling down an abyss while on Oatchi will just teleport you back. Any loose pikmin will be lost, but Oatchi and any Pikmin on his back will be teleported back!
not sure if you noticed, but when I was playing I noticed that ice pikmen that get trapped in a bubble, have a frosty layer/look to their bubble, and seem to pop out of it faster than some of the other pikmen (if you want to try this out you can do it in the piklopedia when you 'engage' a waddlepuss enemy). Also, its possilbe to beat/kill a giant breadbug without the tug of war aspect. You can throw pikmin directly on top of it to have them jump and crush it for about 1/3 of its health
He does this to the second one to finish it off!
It seems like Scruffy posts early in the day and i'm loving it. I live in a time zone which doesn't aligned with most of America so i usually have to wait until 1 or 2, but not with Scruffy! Watching this series has been a blast, i think Scruffy is one of the most considerate and knowledgeable content creators that I have ever seen.

Moss barking at the Pikpik carrots is very similar to dogs I've had in the past who don't understand vegetables. Many a times I've given them a carrot only for them to immediately drop it out of their mouths.
When you collect a music box if you add more pikmin while caring it the song speeds up. You could do like a RUclips short on this idea
Something I wanted to mention about the adult gildemander is that to my knowledge it is capable of eating more pikmin in a single attack than any other enemy with it being able to seemingly eat a full one hundred pikmin in a single tongue swipe
I have seen videos of it and so I engaged it in the piklopedia to test and I could never get it to eat more that 15 at a time

@@heliomancer6840 the trick is that the gildemander's enormous catch rate is actually an oversight in the code. It *should* have that limit of 15, but for reasons I can't say for certain, when pikmin are latched onto a nugget they will always get eaten. If you rush the pikmin onto a gold piece right before the gildemander laps it up, I think that'd do it.
1:17:58 the "lucky hit" was because you throw 10 pikmin on his top and they maked a stomp to kill him. (New way to kill giant breadbugs!!!)
My headcanon is that Scruffy actually cleared the dandori segment on their first try but had to fabricate a coverstory in order to justify overdubbing the intense swearing that ensued.
Scruffy I want you to know that "Wild Pikmin" in caves also refers to candypopbuds!
Edit: I also recomend you get the Gunkbusters as soon as possible as they become very useful a bit later on and it's nice to get out of the way and you'll be kicking yourself if you don't doit. It's agonizing without them!
Another Edit: Since I saw no one else mention this but if you get ten Pikmin worth of weight (Usually with Yellow Pikmin) onto the giant breadbug they will slam down like it's a paper bag and hurt it!

A just love how adorably pathetic and innocent the breadbugs are, just one little smack to the head and off they go. Not to mention the silly noises they make. Calling them precious would be an understatement.
Oatchi's sideye reminds me of the slowmo of Luigi when he passes people in Mario Kart 😂
lil thing about completing a series for treasures: you can actually view the collection medal itself in the treasure log and it will show all the treasure of that series together in one area to view. This is especially cool for certain series like the BattleBot which fully assembles it from the parts you collected

I love the effort that must go into counting all the glow pikmin deaths (or light extinguishings I guess) for the end screens.
Hey Scruffy, if you have 100 Pikmin in a cave, even though wild Pikmin won’t appear, you’ll find candypop buds in their place (if you need more of that Pikmin type for example)
Ever since I noticed you were doing a Pikmin 4 playthrough, it has been the only thing I have been guaranteed to click on if I saw a new episode. Ever since you made the video on Pikmin 3 boss music and I watched that, I've really enjoyed your work. I love that you care so much about your Pikmin, and I do too. Hey Scruffy, Oatchi usually squints at enemies besides Moss, incase you didn't know.
Oh, and also about the candypop buds, you can just rush Oatchi into them and the Pikmin won't be flung when riding Oatchi and if you fall into the abyss with Oatchi and the Pikmin, you all get teleported back up so no worries.
But anyways, I love your Pikmin 4 content! It's wholesome and a blast to watch!
I just realized that when you fight the porkquillion it's like a reference to the Gatling groink because it was in the gluttons kitchen and you could only throw Pikmin on it not rush it
Gluttons kitchen had out of reach cannon larvae not Gatling grounds. The groink up on the pillar was in the dream den.

Hey Scruffy, just a tip about something i wish i knew during my first gameplay:
After you get a 100 Pikmin on your squad, stray Pikmin stop spawning!
So i would recommend to take only 70 Pikmin on a cave at a time because of Strays
EDIT: Ok nice you realized that early, another tip regarding caves i would give is too always bring a bit more of what i call 'Transformation pikmin,' some kind of pikmin you got a lot of and is there just to be transformed by a candy-pop-bud, so in a area that recommends reds, rocks and purples, i would bring more reds considering i can transform them later
I never even got the popup tip to use Carrots on Moss, so I just had to keep knocking her out and feeling SUPER bad about it without knowing any other way
Hey scruffy! quick tip for the Hero's Hideaway night missions, id suggest tackling the feasting center first instead of the stargazers spot. while the dandori level for feasting center is higher, its a lot easier compared to stargazer imo though it still has a difficulty spike coming out of serene. hope this helps!
Note : You can throw pikmin at nectar and it automatically chooses leafs and buds

I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggled a bit with that Dandori Challenge the first few times... it was an increase in difficulty I wasn't quite prepared for! Satisfying to see it platinum now :)

So you have Oatchi, Olimar has Moss, and [Redacted] but wouldn’t it be better if he had a tamed Breadbug instead? The giant breadbugs have show they have a sort of Charge ability and they already carry things like Oatchi and Moss, plus having a playable Bread Bug would be wonderful.
I'm surprised Scruffy didn't immediately get the reference with the Assembled Courage Series (referencing the Courage Alloy from Pikmin 2)

Seemed that at 1:17:57, the giant breadbug got flattened by purple pikmin, much like how you'd squish down bags to clear paths (there was a 10/10 counter too). Could you then squish giant breadbugs down with yellow pikmin because the top of the breadbug seemed too tall to toss other pikmin on top.

Fun fact: you can easily avoid the Breadbugs stealing your stuff by putting two purple Pikmin on it. They don't grab objects that are carried by more than 10 Pikmin

I would fight for the breadbugs. I've only had them for one episode but they are absolutely my favorite
I'm not sure how in advance these are recorded, but if a gate (electric or ice or even normal dirt) is at lowest defense; so for example the electric gate having only one bar lit up, it will go down in one Rush from Oatchi.

The giant breadbug should really be called a loafbug! It's a gret play on leafbug, plus then we have crumbugs, breadbugs, and loafbugs.
