Los Angeles to Santa Barbara and Back on Amtrak's Coast Starlight

The Coast Starlight is Amtrak's premier overnight long distance train and one of the most scenic train journeys in the entire world. Climb aboard these bilevel Superliners on a relatively short trip up the coast from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara taking in part of the line's famous coastal run. The Sightseer Lounge and its wraparound windows is the perfect place to watch the scenery go by. Hop off the train and take a walk around the beautiful coastal city of Santa Barbara nestled between the ocean and the mountains before boarding the southbound train and seeing an absolutely spectacular sunset along the coast. This is the best of train travel in the United States.

Departing from LA which side is the ocean side?

Departing from LA, you'll want to be on the left side of the train. I'm pretty sure, though, that coach seats are assigned by the conductor before departure. The Sightseer Lounge is the best place to be for the run along the Pacific from Oxnard to San Luis Obispo.
