I know you’re critiquing yourself but I think you danced this beautifully, considering you sprained your ankle during dress rehearsal! Edit: aww thanks for the likes nobody ever likes my comments 😊
You are always your own worst critic. I like hearing your critique but the overwhelming majority in the audience probably just thought it was beautiful.
I wasn't expecting the fish dives to be that fast, I don't understand how you can do that fast of a pirouette into a fish dive perfectly, gorgeous, sleeping beauty is always one of my favorites and you two do it so well!! especially for a sprained ankle
I still go back and watch this video once in a while! I love your commentary. I learn about ballet and enjoy your humble and grateful attitude and yet not beating yourself up. Savor the moment. Great art!
The costumes are so gorgeous, I definitely agree with the "it's a classic and you must doing something right if you get to do it" it is always so gorgeous and the costumes are great
This was the first ballet I ever saw, performed by the Australian Ballet in the Sydney Opera house. It was AMAZING! 😍 The fish tail dives were one of my favourite moves of the show. It also had an absolutely BEAUTIFUL set design.
It gives so much more depths thanks to your comments! They are really helpful in understanding small yet important details which can be so easily overlooked!
amazing katy so happy i saw it fingers crossed it stays up nycb should be encouraged to share their amazing art with the world!!! there’s so much to benefit from not having an entirely hidden technique that’s so amusing to watch! fabulous as always
Caleigh Brown surprisingly I find that American companies are some of the most mysterious with their content in a time of social media. Royal ballet is leading the forefront by being extremely open with sharing the arts but American companies like nycb and especially ABT barely have anything online.
So for a partner to never miss a fish dive.....that's a thing? I must have been so blessed - did tons of fish dives with a partner who never missed - in a small company. Thank you for this info - I had not fully appreciated it at the time. Love.
My sister and I lived near Lincoln center and would sneak in the back (the ushers looked the other way) I loved the long stemmed roses the audience would throw during standing O.👑🌹🌹🌹
That’s so fast! You guys made an amazing pair! Those dives are insane!😍and I love your commentary and advice for dancers! I’m sure it will be super helpful for anyone who preforms.
I don’t know how true this is, but I heard that the extremely fast tempos actually came from the original pit orchestra conductor that would just ignore the dancers and conduct his own tempi. NYCB just became known for it as their dancers had to adapt to match it
I doubt that. Balanchine was a highly trained musician: he set the tempos. In his own ballets, if you're not using his fast tempos you're not really dancing Balanchine at all. (Can you hear me over there in Moscow and Leningrad?)
Always love your commentary videos. I would love a video were you go more into the details for the differences between Balanchine and Classic technique!

Amazing video 😊 Regarding the tempo... I recently saw a documentary that talked about the Ratmansky reconstruction and they musicians talking about how the faster tempos are supposed to be played... Like... No.. The whole reason the Tchaikovsky ballet scores exist is because of dancers... That's what the music was written for and that's how the music should be played... So that dancers can actually dance... That's what people pay to see...
This is so beautiful and precious! You look so regal yet in connection with everyone. The chemistry with your partner is so good as well! Kudos to whoever filmed this haha bb.
Omg watching the nutcracker and sleeping beauty when I was 2 was what made me get into ballet. I remember watching the vision scene and the wedding pas de deux and I said to my mum this is what I want to do. Now I am performing roles like sugar plum and Juliet
Stunning Katy! I prefer the “English” style, love the speed of NYCB. I’d love to see you dance with the Royal Ballet. You have a gorgeous port de brass, which would be wonderful in the RB!
My dream is to do a fish dive with Tyler Engle.....OMG soo beautiful Kathryn! All around gorgeous from the both of you. What an honor to get to dance Aurora at such a young age. Really enjoyed this. Thank you for posting.
This is beautiful Katie! At my studio, my teacher has been talking about how the lines of gender in ballet are becoming more blurred -- for example, boys are taking pointe classes and girls are starting to take jumping classes, because they help with technique. A boy at my studio is taking pointe class and we are starting to learn jumps traditionally done by males, such as switch jumps. I think that these are good techniques to have, but there are other perspectives too. Could you address this in a video please? I would love to know what other dancers think of this.
YOU ARE AMAZING!!!! I used to dance at Disneyland in the parades and then had to leave for a medical condition so I totally understand how you must have felt to have to leave your dream job! But the way you have powered through and gotten “back on the horse”, makes me hopeful that maybe someday I can return to the job I worked so hard to get! I wish you tremendous success in your new journey with the Miami City Ballet! And thank you for bringing all of us along with you😁🧡😁
Loved seeing you in this video & your commentary is so fascinating, ie, the changes the Peter made, the Balanchine style, and your compliments re Tyler. 😊👍👍👍👍
"Just ballone your leg and hang on for dear life" hahaha Thank you for sharing this Katie! My 3-year-old loves watching you (and any ballet dancer) and Sleeping Beauty is her favorite story. She has named one of her Little People figures "Lady Caraboose" I think she might be destined to dance haha
This is beautiful! I'm glad someone filmed it. It's funny to me that you say Tyler is a 'leftie' when in figure skating he'd be considered a 'righty'. (I am not a figure skater not a dancer, wish I'd begun either journey as a child.) Figure skaters typically rotate counter clockwise and THOSE are the ones considered righties. If you skate and jump and spin clockwise you're considered a leftie. This also made me think of Katherine Healy and how she was a 'leftie' in ballet!! Love your commentary on your performances. Totally blowing through them all!! Sooo happy for your Miami experience - can't wait to see you! Sorry so long of a comment!!
That's insanely fast! Some steps actually look better faster (despite loving SB, I for one think the PDD is a little bit too slow in the beginning), but not ALL of them lol the coda specially was crazy!
Glorious! I love that you have partner that you trust so much. I have always wondered about that. I was wondering if you have ever been criticized by a director for doing a save or a cheat to keep the quality of your performance like with the b plus?
You're so amazing! Beautiful dancing. I think I commented before about how I followed NYCB's series narrated by SJP almost RIGHT after you'd left the company so you were only recently on my radar because I watched Andrew East's Redirected podcast with you. I'm now obsessed with ballet again (watching, I'm not a dancer). I have actually been neglecting my figure skating obsession somewhat (again, not a skater - though I tried!). The point of my comment aside from giving you a glowing review as a human, dancer, social media queen and all around great spirit is that in ballet a leftie is what in figure skating is a rightie. That is all. xoxo Congrats on your debut in Miami! I WILL make it to a performance of yours one day. I have young kids but I love Miami and love your dancing. (I just wrote a short story, sorry!)
You were, you are an absolute star Katie!!! Wish you hadn't been through what you had been through, tremendously heart breaking for such a dancer as you... Maybe your soul was just too much tortured. And your body suffered for it.
Please, please, please post your performances in Marzipan, Dewdrop, Sugar Plum, snow corps, and waltz corps for Nutcracker! I’m a huge fan of you and Balanchine’s Nutcracker!! Please!!!
Hi Katie, I have a question for another Q&A. You mentioned earlier that a dream role of yours would be Manon. Are you referring to the title role in Manon Lescaut or do you mean the ballet the lady of the camellias where Manon acts as the Alter ego of the leading lady Marguerite Gautier? By the way I imagine you‘d be a great Prudence in the lady of the camellias.
XD ❤️ That was super enjoyable - both the commentary and the performance! You're a wonderful and charming dancer. I wish I could see the performance in it's entirety.
Have you ever performed in any of the less conventional ballets, such as "The Unanswered Question" in Balanchine's "Ivesiana"? I love that one. So mysterious and surreal. Or Robbins' "The Cage"?
I actually understand the thing where a performance is easier at the end of the whole show- I sang in an opera in college, and the climax notes, by then, were oddly easy. The fatigue of the show somehow made the end scenes easier. (Mind you, I was in the chorus, not a main role! My part was easier- sorta...)
I know you’re critiquing yourself but I think you danced this beautifully, considering you sprained your ankle during dress rehearsal!
Edit: aww thanks for the likes nobody ever likes my comments 😊
So beautiful oh my goodness
Aww thank you!
You are always your own worst critic. I like hearing your critique but the overwhelming majority in the audience probably just thought it was beautiful.

Those fish dives were amazing. Tempo far too fast, as you say, for no reason really. Your candor, too, amazing, Kathryn!
Thank you!
OMG This IS fast
Edit: Thank you everyone for the like 😍
Oh yes
Kathryn Morgan I have danced a pretty fast song before. In the end I feel like I’m being run over by the tempo 😂
New York City ballet Sleeping Beauty is one of the most amazing ballets I’ve ever seen in my life.
Beautiful! I love these commentaries so much.
Moi aussi!!!
Thank you!
I love your videos so much! You are my ballet inspiration and I can’t wait to see you dance with Miami City Ballet! ❤️😍
Thank you so much!
I still go back and watch this video once in a while! I love your commentary. I learn about ballet and enjoy your humble and grateful attitude and yet not beating yourself up. Savor the moment. Great art!
The B+ ending was perfect! Actually fits better with the choreography.
The costumes are so gorgeous, I definitely agree with the "it's a classic and you must doing something right if you get to do it" it is always so gorgeous and the costumes are great

Thank you!
Brilliant. Bravo. Loved it. One of the best I have enjoyed.

Agreed with the “being fast for no good reason”. Again…..your port de bras is BEAUTIFUL!!
I can’t imagine having to dance on a sprained ankle. Ouch!
I didn't feel it during the show! Afterwards... ouch haha
Katie thank you so much for inspiring me....I am on the "other" side of 50 and am heading into my first ballet class.....so excited! !!
I don’t know how true this is, but I heard that the extremely fast tempos actually came from the original pit orchestra conductor that would just ignore the dancers and conduct his own tempi. NYCB just became known for it as their dancers had to adapt to match it

Just incredibe. The dancing is superb, but you both also have beautiful interpretation, Aurora has become a queen.
you look insanely gorgeous as always ! my company is doing sleeping beauty in march and i'm so excited :)
Thank you! Enjoy it!
Love these commentaries!! Also wow that was so fast

Thank you for sharing this and the insights, Katie. Always a joy to watch you dance the great classical rôles xxxxxxx
Thank you!
That spotting to the front is soooo weird! I had never noticed it when watching American ballet. Thanks for pointing out these details :)
It’s only Balanchine technique, not standard American technique.
Arabella T huh! I didn’t know that. So is there a more generalized style of American ballet as well as Balanchine?
This is so beautiful and precious! You look so regal yet in connection with everyone. The chemistry with your partner is so good as well! Kudos to whoever filmed this haha bb.
I am an old dancer. Love your dancing. The speed is dazzling. I like it like that. I believe, that is the American flavor.
Love this pas! I would love to play aurora when I get older. I loved the chemistry between you and Tyler, and it was beautiful! Wonderful job.
Omg watching the nutcracker and sleeping beauty when I was 2 was what made me get into ballet. I remember watching the vision scene and the wedding pas de deux and I said to my mum this is what I want to do. Now I am performing roles like sugar plum and Juliet
Even though you are critiquing yourself it is so amazing
I really enjoy listening to your critique of your performance. Fast...wooosh. The fish movement was amazing.
Thank you!
Stunning Katy! I prefer the “English” style, love the speed of NYCB. I’d love to see you dance with the Royal Ballet. You have a gorgeous port de brass, which would be wonderful in the RB!
You inspire me to keep going on my hard ballet days and always go that extra mile! Thank you 💕
Divine. I love the faster tempo.
I enjoyed it in certain places but not others haha. And thank you! xo
My dream is to do a fish dive with Tyler Engle.....OMG soo beautiful Kathryn! All around gorgeous from the both of you. What an honor to get to dance Aurora at such a young age. Really enjoyed this. Thank you for posting.
Wow even with a sprained ankle your dancing is gorgeous!👏😂❤️
hope you're safe from the Hurricane, You look gorgeous as always in this ^^
I'm just fine! It completely missed Miami. But thank you so much!
Forgo sleep cos Katie just posted 😁
Haha aww. Thank you!
So so so gorgeous! You could not be more beautiful!!!
Ah! Too whippin fast! I want to see the developé too! I can’t believe you made it look as smooth as you did! Great job, Katie!
SO fast. And thank you!

I love these commentary videos, little peeks behind the scenes are so interesting!

Your so beautiful Kathryn and lovely to your ballet partner.
Loved seeing you in this video & your commentary is so fascinating, ie, the changes the Peter made, the Balanchine style, and your compliments re Tyler. 😊👍👍👍👍
The B+ ending seems like a more organic ending. Neat.
Awww that's precious! And thank you!
This was so much fun. I would much rather listen to the dancers comment on their dancing during a performance than watch it without comments now lol.
Wow, I loved this. I watch a show called Dance academy and I never understood the dance. Thank you
Beautiful and elegant! What is the first move called when you lean back?
you dance beautifully so glad I found your channel
I love these videos!
Thank you!
@@kathryn_morgan You're welcome and thank you for making them :)
You are stunning what an amazing dance! I love sleeping beauty 💕
Beautiful to Watch 😍❤️🥰

Always such a joy to see you dance!
Thank you so much!
lovely.
That was so beautiful Kathryn!
Thank you for sharing this!
The fact that your like 20 in this video is insane😍
gorgeous gorgeous, love the fishdives
Glorious! I love that you have partner that you trust so much. I have always wondered about that. I was wondering if you have ever been criticized by a director for doing a save or a cheat to keep the quality of your performance like with the b plus?
They never said anything to me. I think they would have been far more upset if I did NOT save it.

Hi Katie, I have a question for another Q&A. You mentioned earlier that a dream role of yours would be Manon. By the way I imagine you‘d be a great Prudence in the lady of the camellias.
Yes - the title role in the MacMillan version. But I would LOVE to also do Lady of the Camellias!
Ah, ok. Thanks Katie. So Marguerite is also a dream role of yours? I recently saw a performance. It’s most beautiful.
Amazing!
.....wow...how fluid your arms are!!!...just beautifullllllllll...!!👏🎉💖🌷🙆♀️
Thank you!
Great job!
Love you!
I always think NYCB tempi are too fast for the audience to really enjoy the piece fully.
beautiful!
So beautiful ❤️
Those developpes in the solo are so fast! I could never get the leg fully extended with that timing
that was the fastest thing ever omg
YEP
Wonderful! Looked great! Was this prior to you being sick? Is Tyler still there? Thanks for sharing!
K Ballet Tyler is still there he’s a principal now!
The best male principal at NYCB, in my humble opinion lol
😂😂 the coda speed
wtf you are amazing
XD ❤️ That was super enjoyable - both the commentary and the performance! You're a wonderful and charming dancer. I wish I could see the performance in it's entirety.
Have you ever performed in any of the less conventional ballets, such as "The Unanswered Question" in Balanchine's "Ivesiana"? I love that one. So mysterious and surreal. Or Robbins' "The Cage"?
Where is the best place to watch a Ballet in New York and what seats are best to buy?
I actually understand the thing where a performance is easier at the end of the whole show- I sang in an opera in college, and the climax notes, by then, were oddly easy. The fatigue of the show somehow made the end scenes easier. (Mind you, I was in the chorus, not a main role! My part was easier- sorta...)
Does anyone else really wanna see a drawing of Disney's Phillip and Aurora in these costumes?
Your partner's got a sweet job. He mostly has to hold you and lift you while barely dancing at all.
Wow! you critique yourself HARD! lol
YOU WERE AMAZING!!! Seriously 👏🏻
(him too! of course)
Katie❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😄
🙏💯👏
Have you ever forgotten choreo for a company before?
SO FAST O.O
Yes too fast.
