    Hi I'm Kathryn!
I am a former soloist with the New York City Ballet and Miami City Ballet. When I was a young student, I was always looking for insights into the ballet world and how to improve my dancing as well as beauty and lifestyle tips. Now that I am a professional, it is my turn to share.
On my channel I make ballet, beauty, and lifestyle videos for everyone of all ages. My goal is help dancers improve and achieve their dreams as well as open up the ballet world to non dancers. Let's bring the joy back to ballet! You will see many different kinds of videos here including ballet classes, workouts, Q and A sessions, life advice, performances, beauty tutorials, technique tips, and more. I hope you find all of my videos helpful!

Thank you, this is a perfect example of what we have been telling our students; who look at us like “huh??”, that even the best top dancers (and you are a beautiful dancer) still get coaching and continually work on all areas of their artistry and technique. Tell Chris we will eventually get back to his adult class, but I got a herniated disc (doing gardening, not a double saut de basque to the knee with a huge cambre back like I am telling everyone… lol)

I love the bend in your back. It’s the details that separate dancers 🙌🏻💗

Dancers have such a connection and self-awareness with their bodies, it is fascinating. Being able to notice and eventually correct that your arm is slightly too high or leg slightly turned in…I know that is a “normal” part of your job, but it blows my mind! I’m happy if I can get up a flight of stairs without tripping!
    Amazing!

I love that you are so brave to critique your performance publicly. This is very hard to do for everyone. But self critique is one of the best ways to learn. You are a perfect role model. I hope I can learn to do this for myself. I always think I’m correct and find out later that I practiced wrong. Any tips are appreciated! Thanks for any responses.

I always thought of it as the opposite. Most people are super self-critical, but not a good and constructive way. I like this because it's constructive and still positive.

I think these are really interesting. I saw Swan Lake on Friday, and I found myself saying to the black swan, acknowledge the people on stage with you, acknowledge Rothbart. I remembered your commentary.

My first ever skating program was to this music, heavily edited and spliced, obviously, since we weren't allowed to have programs nearly that long. My coach really tried to dissuade me from using the music because it was "Christmas music." I told her that actually, the music itself was first performed by Tchaikovsky in the summer. What a know-it-all little 10 year old I was! I can't even imagine how or why I knew that at 10 -- it was 5 years before the world wide web was born, and 10 years before the first search engine was released -- it's not as though I could just search it Google
My coach was an angel for putting up with a tween who had to intellectually challenge people's preconceived notions.

I love this video so much, and I wonder how this variation feels differently in your new shoes from your fitting with Josephine?
I would love to see a second studio run and you dancing, then reviewing your changes as we all prepare for this year’s Nutcracker season.

This is a revelation. Especially when we you have two identical steps in a row and you allow us to compare the first ( less than ideal) and second (correct). I am a LONG time Balanchine lover but have never seen a presentation like this. Thank you!

I love this. You look lovely, but it is great to see the slow-mo breakdown and areas where even the pros can improve. I would love to see this done with other rehearsal videos, moreso than performance videos. Mainly because I want the performances to remain celebrated accomplishments that are the result of all this hard work.

Hey Kathryn! I have a special request. I’m 15, I’ve been dancing my whole life, and it’s my absolute passion I’m completely in love with it. I’ve been at a small studio in Alabama for a while and I figure it’s time to start moving up in the world. Excitingly, I’ve decided to begin that process by auditioning for Mobile Ballet!! Could you talk about your time there, and what your experience was like? I’ve done a lot of research but still would like to know from you! I will tell you, I was completely flabbergasted when I found out you grew up there!! Love you so much, your literally my dance mom!❤

I'm so curious as to why this role in particular has so many options allowed for the dancer. Is it because it's a principal role that should showcase virtuosity? Or is it because it's performed so often that you're allowed to have more variations in performance style? Are there other roles that similarly allow dancer's choice for the original choreography?
