Another famous Katie quote, "I have big feet and they don't move fast." 😊 I would love to have been able to see you dance Dewdrop. I've seen a few different Dewdrops at City Ballet and to me, sometimes it can be danced almost too sharply, too accented, too frenetic, to the point where it detracts from the role.
Just a thought … I would love to hear your thinking during the design process for the studio. What decisions did you make, and why? What defines a great studio space? Do you address details about the changing rooms for instance? Did you have your barres made to your specifications with gorgeous materials? How about colours? This suggestion is a bit off-piste, but I bet there are some stories where your style and attention to detail express themselves architecturally …
Just from an audience stand point, when it comes to Balanchine's version, I much prefer watching Dewdrop than Sugarplum. Which is saying a lot, because flowers is usually one of my least favorite dances. 😆 Something about Balanchine's version is just so beautiful though.
Katie, this video is one of your best. I am speaking as a member of the audience; I know I do not want to see cookie cutter performances. I just wanted to add that as a person who has seen NYCB’s Nutcracker, Dew Drop has a special place in my heart.
Love this video! As a 40 year old teacher, it's also hard for me knowing how many of my teachers and even thanks to Covid, contemporaries, are now gone. In many ways, I feel so thankful for the gift that is video and pictures, as we can preserve so much of their talent, passion, expertise, and artistry. Thanks to this media, so many more are able to learn from masters they'd otherwise never have the chance to train alongside. Loving your perspective on wanting to train the next generation of dancers to be "better" than us in that they have the technical proficiency we were taught, alongside the mental and emotional intelligence to care for themselves in dance and beyond. ♥
Katie, I love your Once Upon a Point stories! I feel so happy for you now opening your studio and how you care for us adult ballet dancers! ❤️ wishing you all the best :)
Yay another Once Upon A Pointe!!!! You once said you'd do some stories about touring with NYCB, would love to hear those stories on either OUAP or the Podcast!
The message you convey in this video is so important. I don't dance, and it still hit home. Thank you for having been so persistent in your life, it's been a privilege to see how your wings have carried despite all the hardships, and landed you where you are now. Best wishes from Finland. 🙏
Love that dropped this today! Since I started dancing en pointe Dewdrop has been my dream role. As I get better en pointe I feel like I’m closer every year!! Hopefully they’ll let a male tackle it.
Waltz of the Flowers might be my favorite music from nutcracker, and I LOVE Dewdrop, so I would’ve loved to see you do it and your interpretation of it, I’m sure it was stunning!
I just watched your rehearsal and then Ashley Boulder's version lol. It's funny how I can watch her version and be like "Yeah, this IS Dewdrop" but then watch your version and feel like "Wait…THIS is Dewdrop" and your Dewdrops clearly have different personalities. She was pretty electric, like you said, so it's easy to see why others would want to emulate her, but yours works with the nature of the accompanying music and how stately it is as a waltz. It's interesting how they both work.
This year I got mouse king (my dream role) and we do waltz soloist im in there too im sooooo exited!!!!!!!! you inspire me to work hard and im very grateful for your videos!
You definitely need to do a video about how to be promoted from apprentice/trainee position to a corps member! Or at least some tips, from personal experience :D
Could you explain the NYCB flowers costumes. ive always wondered about the little, almost bags that sit on either side in between the tiers. Do you have any insight into what those are or what they're there to communicate? Also I find it so interesting when you talk about what different ballets are like for dancers, such as your video about your first time dancing Nutcracker. So it would be very cool if you did something like "Swan Lake: Explained" where you cover what the show as a whole is like as a dancer/its reputation within the ballet community. For example how Peter Martins (or anyone elses, i dont really know famous ballet choreographers) choreo differens from Balanchine and how dancing romantic vs classical is different.
hello, i have a question could u make a video about trends in ballett, for example movements which have changed a little i have noticed that every dance school has many different variants of holding the fingers in detail or turning with the food when they are standing in arabesque. i hope u know what i mean. sorry that my english is maybe not the best. best wishes for you!
In the profession world, is it only the corps who plays multiple parts in one showing (Parents, Snowflakes, Flowers all in one showing of Nutcracker)? I'm just curious because at my dance school growing up, all of the 2 highest level classes would do Snow, and would be double cast in Flowers and act 2 soloist roles (so one year I did snow in act 1, and do either flowers or a soloist role in act 2 depending on the show).
I think you are amazing at everything , but everyone has their own strengths and those should be amplified in the roles. It’s so important to #beYourself.

I have a hard time with speed too. My street shoe size is 9.5😢

I love this suggestion
I agree with this suggestion!
Dewdrop is actually the reason why I love NYC ballet’s the Nutcracker so much!
Just from an audience stand point, when it comes to Balanchine's version, I much prefer watching Dewdrop than Sugarplum. Which is saying a lot, because flowers is usually one of my least favorite dances. 😆 Something about Balanchine's version is just so beautiful though.
I can absolutely see that! ❤️

Dewdrop is magnificent when well danced. Luminous and incisive at the same time
Balanchine Waltz of the flowers is my favorite!!!
Those pink costumes are amazing!

I missed these!! Please keep this series up, love listening to them
Hello,
A video about trying on costumes and the whole costume department at NYC Ballet would be really interesting.
Katie, I love your Once Upon a Point stories! I feel so happy for you now opening your studio and how you care for us adult ballet dancers! ❤️ wishing you all the best :)
Great advice for life too, bring yourself/what you have to offer to whichever roles and experiences we're part of it 🙌🏼💗💗💗✨
Can't wait to see this. I perform this year as dew drop in my studios nutcracker. You've been a very big inspiration and can't wait to see the video 😊
Yay another Once Upon A Pointe!!!! You once said you'd do some stories about touring with NYCB, would love to hear those stories on either OUAP or the Podcast!
I feel like nycb is the best company with giving corps dancers opportunities and chances to do big roles

I'd love to see some video footage of you performing this with City Ballet, if possible!
Love what Benjamin said to you! That’s so lovely!

Great Message ( "Be Yourself"!) Thank you! LOVELY 🌹
I so enjoy hearing these amazing stories.
You had mentioned once talking about some of the traveling you did with the company. Are there any stories there?
Ooh yes! Thank you!
I would be proud to have my "hot mess" days look as beautiful as yours! 😊
Awww thank you!

Hello Katie. Excellent video. Thank you for sharing.
This year I got mouse king (my dream role) and we do waltz soloist im in there too im sooooo exited!!!!!!!! you inspire me to work hard and im very grateful for your videos!
I have some the problem with moving fast 🤣 I'm tall and have long feet so its really awkward for me to move with fast on pointe
You definitely need to do a video about how to be promoted from apprentice/trainee position to a corps member! Or at least some tips, from personal experience :D
Dew is the greatest role in nut period. Thanks for sharing queen
AHHHH this makes me so excited to watch Nutcracker this year

Could you pleas do a ouap about your first time dancing swan lake? It is one of my all time favorites ❤️ also i admire you soooo much😍
I’m not a professional dancer but if I were I’d really appreciate the advice and insights you offer.

Thank you so much! This is so great.
I would LOVE to see a video! Do you have any from when you were at NYCB?
I met you back stage when you are warming up in 2008, while my school was giving a tour backstage in the winter.
Please tell the story of getting your corps contract and finishing your apprenticeship!
OHH forgot that one!
Yay! Can’t wait!
