Something to think about. Gangsters provide order to communities when those in power fail to and eventually are elected leaders or take power by force and legitimized. People looking up to and electing someone like Trump is a symptom that a large part of the USA view our government as a failure and that it no longer serves the interests of the people.
I appreciate that Kamala has actually reached out to Mark on policy. I think he has some crazy good ideas around health care, that could work, at scale and at low cost that could really improve the health care system. I was ( and still am ) leary about Obamacare, not because getting more coverage for people is bad, but because I thought we needed to solve a fundamental cost problem - the system just has too many middle men and it needs fundamental reform. Democrats have often interpreted reform as more goverment intervention in the provision of service, but I've always felt that it's actually a structural issue that you can actually fix through regulatory reform. You could even do it with deregulation - by loosing up rules that make real competition harder selectively. If we did that, a goverment provisioning service for health care, like goverment insurance - becomes much much cheaper because it would improve the functioning of the entire market. Mark has ideas along these lines. They aren't stupid populist hand-outs, but meaningful reform of the economics around health care, designed to cut out middlemen and the shadow economies forming around healthcare and increasing costs. It says a lot about Kamala that she reached out to him. His proposed reforms are non-partisan, pragmatic , pro-capitalist, but also would prevent people from exploiting the system.

Compare it to the tax plan from the Obama era and see who the democrat politicians are really for. High corporate taxes and relaxed import taxes inspire a lot of outsourcing. At least Trump negotiates with other countries in terms of trade.

I didn’t think I could watch the whole thing because of how many times Mark said, “right”, but I’m so glad I did. Mark and Theo made some excellent points and had great insights. The whole conversation was so much more interesting and engaging once they got into politics and the insurance industry. Worth a watch/listen for sure!

Something to think about. Gangsters provide order to communities when those in power fail to and eventually are elected leaders or take power by force and legitimized. People looking up to and electing someone like Trump is a symptom that a large part of the USA view our government as a failure and that it no longer serves the interests of the people.
Theo's great but the cognitive dissonance is unreal. It scares me that a lot people think the same way.
I appreciate that Kamala has actually reached out to Mark on policy. I think he has some crazy good ideas around health care, that could work, at scale and at low cost that could really improve the health care system.
I was ( and still am ) leary about Obamacare, not because getting more coverage for people is bad, but because I thought we needed to solve a fundamental cost problem - the system just has too many middle men and it needs fundamental reform. Democrats have often interpreted reform as more goverment intervention in the provision of service, but I've always felt that it's actually a structural issue that you can actually fix through regulatory reform. You could even do it with deregulation - by loosing up rules that make real competition harder selectively. If we did that, a goverment provisioning service for health care, like goverment insurance - becomes much much cheaper because it would improve the functioning of the entire market.
Mark has ideas along these lines. They aren't stupid populist hand-outs, but meaningful reform of the economics around health care, designed to cut out middlemen and the shadow economies forming around healthcare and increasing costs.
It says a lot about Kamala that she reached out to him. His proposed reforms are non-partisan, pragmatic , pro-capitalist, but also would prevent people from exploiting the system.
