  • A microcode bug finally allows true undervolt on Alder Lake - system crashed at -170mv, booting and running cinebench at -150 resulting in just 55w CPU power reading in hwinfo, 100w from the wall using a wx4100 gpu. Bios version is F1 !

UPDATE 30/06 - a common pattern i found is that all the working combos have actually the die cut down from full 8+8 C0 silicon. Also, to complicate things, some individual CPU samples from H0 also had better silicon quality wich could allow to sustain the -50 offset limit on MSI boards anyway.
I will test some more boards in the buture, z690 from MSI if possible, with H0 cpus to further investigate this. Further explanation on the differences www.hwcooling....
    UPDATED LIST of tested boards:
    Z690 UD DDR5 with F21 and F23a - WORKING with C0 cpu
z790 UD AX with BIOS f2 - NOT WORKING with H0 cpu
    B760M Aorus Elite DDR5 with F1 and F3 - NOT WORKING with H0 cpu
B660M GAMING X AX with F4 and F22 bios - NOT WORKING with H0 cpu
    F21 and F20 WORKING with C0 cpu
    B660 DS3H AX DDR4 with F4 and F22 bios - NOT WORKING with H0 cpu
ASUS ROG STRIX B660-I GAMING WIFI bios 1620 - WORKED TWO MONTHS WITH C0 i5, NOW TOTALLY BROKEN IN A DIFFERENT WAY - • ASUS failing on me aga...
    further testing is needed!

important and SAD update: it seem to be totally RANDOM wether undervolt gets enabled on these boards. I got it working with a couple and got excited, but now the undervolt seem broken again: it will tank performance at around 50 offset and then CRASH at around 150, even with a board that was working last week (just cpu swapped from 12400f to 12600). I am invastigating wether there are some specific cpu that do work. I have so far shipped 1 z690ud and 1 b760m gaming x ax (the one in the video) to clients that are working, i have a b660m gaming x working here, but another z690 UD and b660m i purchased last week are now under testing and DO NOT WORK with the same f21 bios that was working on the same model before, using different 12400f / 12500 / 12600 cpus
the craziness is that with these bios at over 150 you still get the system to crash, wich previously wasn't the case, so something sticks.. but only the bad part

ah man so the same nonsense I am running into on my 12500... its really a shame as a 100mv undervolt would help so much in my SFF case. But If I even touch a minor undervolt it tanks performance.

Yes , that is reported on all my previous videos. I have a lot of content on that issue. There is apparently a microcode version 0x104 that has the undervolt functionality working! I am currently investigating. A list of tested configurations is in the description.

@@mircomputers seems just like all the other b660's its a nope its really sad to see intel make it so hard to undervolt. You basically need both undervolting protection and intel IA CEP as bios settings otherwise both will make undervolting not work. I can undervolt on the asrcok but will drop huge performance even for minor undervolts when IA CEP kicks in but since the settings not there its a rip. even just going down one step in load line calibration makes it kick in.

Do you have any coil whine with this motherboard? A lot of people are complaining about that with Gigabyte motherboards.
What is your CPU revision - C0 or H0?

    • @mircomputers
      @mircomputers  Год назад

Nop, no issues on that side; i also never heard that on any other board, but i only use H0 cpus, as i like lower power and smaller ringbus, no e-cores for audio and gaming.
I have never had a single one 12400f / 12500 / 12600 come to me in the full C0 die, i do check everytime the back of the cpu and spec number and would return them if found.
