  • In my last review (talking about how I was not a fan of these handles) I had explained that I had to throw my old SRK away. However, several requested evidence of the testing so I ordered a new SRK to demonstrate first hand what I was taking about. At your request, here is the test. #coldsteel #coldsteelsrk
    Also see the handle loosen on this chop test

    That looks like a real easy fix. A little Rubber Cement would take care of that issue. This issue isn't a issue that cannot be fixed real easily. I feel the SRK Series is an exceptional value. Thank you for sharing. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

    • @411Outdoors
      @411Outdoors  Год назад +6

      Joe X does atomic bomb testing. People don’t wanna admit that these handles cant take much. This thing is marketed as a hard-core, Bushcraft, tactical knife. The bottom line is this: a thick tang knife with scales would not respond like this. Knives in this category have to be somewhat limitless. If people want limits that’s fine. I really don’t. I need to be able to throw, chop and do hard things.

      No. The condor kephart is very thin and at I'd say more robust due to construction. The esee pr4 is more robust and yet thinner. It's the construction of the knife. These knives I mentioned only have blades of 4.5 inches. The srk is shit. The esee 4 is more robust. Hell, the rat 3 is. A knife that's 6 inches should be able to take that. I get that you don't do this to your knives unless you need to but I shouldn't have to worry about it falling apart if I needed to use it that way. Gear is no joke

    I agree that the handle did get loose. That is a different perspective than your first complaint video. In that video you also complained about the tip and tang breaking. This did not happen with your more vigorous testing in this video. Lastly, you spent a bit of time complaining that they never sent you free knives, even though you tested a lot of their products. I hope that this isn’t part of the reason you “developed” a more negative/critical review of their knives. I’ve done some hard work with my recon tanto (no throwing) and my handle has yet to loosen or rattle at all.

    • @411Outdoors
      @411Outdoors  Год назад +2

      The tip is probably not going to chip this soon in the game, but mine did chip from throwing after a few months. My motive for making this video was the amount of time I spent trying to fix the handles. I can even deal with the chip. That doesn’t bother me as much as the handle. All things aside, Cold Steel has done me kind of dirty. One of the agents reached out a while back and offered to send me something from SOG (I guess he services both) but never sent me anything even after me telling them what I wanted to review. Guys like me on this level have to have stuff being sent to us because there’s no way we could personally afford to review all these products giving free advertisements for these companies. I’ve had some high-level companies sending me blades left and right but none from Coldsteel which is why I’ll be pulling away from their knives. I have also reviewed so many other products from them. Some of these companies don’t want to invest in the little guy. The problem is the little guy grows up and so does his brand. But now this was not an attempt to attack them because I could just come out and blast them openly if I wanted to, but I never did until this issue came up.

    • @Microbc
      @Microbc Год назад +1

      @@411Outdoors I would have preferred it if you just came out with your issues of Cold Steel as a company. It just appears (to me) that there is some “sour apples” associated with your current position on their knives. Your first complaint video was overly aggressive where you criticized the handle and the blade while your second one has walked it back a bit based on your followers responses. I guarantee that any knife can be pushed beyond its limits if desired.

    I’m not seeing anything that any other knife wouldn’t have. Just like with a folder if it gets loose you tighten it. All this takes is epoxy this has been a known thing for 20years. The Mtech 151 has the same issue. It also has the no vibration because of the handle.
    Things are only a issue if you make it a issue. I’ve seen wood crack , G10 break. I don’t believe anything is indestructible. The real question is how easy can it be fixed?
    When I was taught survival everyone carried a lockback. Belt knives are nice but when something happens it’s usually unplanned. So it’s what you carry everyday. If you had all your gear is it really a survival situation?
    The SRK has stood the test of time. Probably carried as much as any other war knife. I got mine in 1991 when I was going to RIP Ranger indoctrination program (the old name) back then ranger school had Benning,Florida mountains and desert. Fun times. Almost everyone had a SRK, recon tanto, or a buck 110.
    Some where wilderness survival turned into bushcarft an survival an tactical became things. It’s all marketing. Survival is skills you don’t need indestructible you need capable. The BK 2 is pushed as a survival knife it’s not a very good one for real survival tasks. Just my opinion form my experience over many years in some bad places.

      The SRK is a cool blade. Just over praised in my honest opinion. That being said, everyone uses a knife differently. This test was mainly to show that the handles really are volatile when beat up a little. One of the things that inspired this series more than anything was that I was looking into buying a San Mai SRK, until I saw it get loose on a bush craft task on a video test on RUclips. I don’t really wanna have to fool with apoxy and all that kind of stuff but I’m bald people are able to use to reset the handle. I wish they would reconstruct to handle do something similar as the Strongarm.

      @@411Outdoors the thing about the SRK is there are so many models. The ones made by Camillus are on another level. Then their is the Japanese AUS8 they were incredible also. But they were much more expensive. I believe what really holds the SRK to a cult like following is the price. I mean really for $35-40 not many knives come close to SRK. Especially nowadays when everything is overpriced. That’s why I’ve used coldsteel tools that were affordable and very capable.
      Just curious what would you recommend over a SRK that cost $35. I just bought the C model it the perfect size for a bait knife our game knife. That would be very capable if I needed it. Also the SRK-C doesn’t have the hollow grind. It’s also thinner.

      That’s exactly right. When used for slicing or piercing it’s a great knife but it’s just not as tough and durable as everyone said. Granted, I’ve got plenty of these types of knives that are truly full tang that I can throw all day. I still like this knife. I just recognize its limits now.

  • @RandoCalrisiann
    @RandoCalrisiann 8 месяцев назад +1

    Nobody, and I mean nobody but fools use their knife like that. 1st you use throwing knives that are designed for throwing. If you notice, throwing knives rarely have handle materials. Also in combat, you never throw your weapon to the enemy, NEVER! There is zero use to throw a knife unless you are bloody circus clown performer! 2nd when hunting or bushcrafting or use in military situations, no one uses knives like that. I've had an srk carbon V for over 30 years of use. It's literally been to hell and back from desert to tundra, and she is still good to go other than the finish. You testing is rather invalid.

    • @411Outdoors
      @411Outdoors  8 месяцев назад

      Bottom line is this. I loosened this handle pretty easily. I did it in one video. Whether a knife is meant for throwing or not you should be able to at least throw it a little bit. In combat you can do anything you want to. You may or may not be successful. Yes, I have known men who have been in deeper waters than any of us combatively who practice this art. No throwing transcended the circus a long time ago. This video obviously offended you, but rarely do I call anybody a fool over an issue like this. This knife is marketed to be tougher than it is. That being said: if you’re just cutting or piercing, it’s fine. I actually like the SRK as a whole. I do wish this tang was different. A lot of what you say about how no one will use a knife in a certain way is very subjective and I don’t think it’s wise to be with so passionate about it. That’s just me.

The SRK is a great value for money knife but if you try to find a fault then you will find it eventually. If you bought a Cold steel Natchez or Laredo and paid hundreds of dollars for it you would still come across the same problem because they say that’s not what it’s built for. But they have stood the test of time throughout history for years because they were dependable if looked after. You should buy a forge and start making knives bro full tang throw resistant 411

    I understand the honesty about this limitation of the srk. On the other hand, I did not buy the knife to abuse it.
    I have owned aircraft, cars, horses, guns, compound bows and I understood upon purchasing them that abuse is not only wasteful but voids any sane warranty.
    I won't belabor this point but I promise anyone viewing that a knife that is impervious to me wilfully destroying it has not been invented yet and never will be.
    If ya got one ya like, send it - 15 mins and I can send it back to ya in peices. I'll find a way. These are NOT made for throwing!
    I could quickly destroy my new Festool TS55 if I decided to do so but why would I? They are $450.00 but still built of plastic. Running over it with my f150 is outside its design limitations. I just never got bending a knife sideways. Who really does that? Thank you for letting me vent.

    As far as I know from what I have read and military people I have talked to it it is just stupid in the real world circumstances to throw your knife away. Now what? I understand destruction tests to a point like when they crash a car into a wall. But a car has a very different functtion that have real imp[ications in failure. I'm never throwing my knife in the field or doing anything like that in the field. Not if I'm bushcrafting. There is a way to chop with knives like this but only in extreme emergencies. You only wanted to try to to destroy it. Have you done a review for its effectiveness in the field, bushcrafting. If not you're just indulging in knfe porn.

      To answer your question yes, I have reviewed this and gave it a positive review on reasonable task. My argument is that it can be loosened pretty easily. That is all. I like the SRK. I’m not sure why this bothered people so much. It’s simple: if you don’t use it hard it’s fine. But it’s not extremely tough as far as the handle is concerned. I work with a lot of fixed blades and you can throw any of them as long as the handle is not over molded.

    why would you use a knife to chop down a tree which you could far easier and faster just use leverage to break down or do a split cut on it??? Throwing a survival/combat knife is such a stupid idea in the real world. If you're just interested in torture testing knives, then I guess it's a thing... but in a combat or survival situation you wouldn't ever throw away your tool/weapon and risk loss or avoidable damage to it. It's like the dummies who say they test a knife's ability to be strapped to a pole & used for a spear to be thrown. Uh... why would you throw your knife-spear when you could just use the knife to carve a sharp spear that doesn't matter if it gets lost/wrecked???
    If you want to have a throwing knife - buy a freaking throwing knife.

      Knife throwing is not a primary combative, but it is an awesome skill and a fun skill to have. I happen to be really good at it and I’m not trying to sound cocky. No one should throw their only knife, but that doesn’t negate the skill. That being said, I’ve heard way too much about how tough this knife is and most average dudes take it in the woods. Regardless of whether the way they use it is relevant or not. People are asking questions and content like mine shows you everything. The handle on this knife sucks even though I like the knife . It’s simply a very limited knife. I do like its look and feel. I can beat the living daylights out of your average full tang knife. at the end of the day it’s only $40 but it’s praised way too much

      @@411Outdoors odd that the SEAL teams issue it... also; knife throwing is a game and a trick skill; not a real-world practical skill. Most people take this knife into the woods hiking or camping and use it for ... knife tasks, which it apparently does well at. Not a true bushcraft knife but works. At the end of the day, for $40 you get a lot of value for the price for a factory-super sharp blade made of decent steel that can take a lot of normal use.

    I agree. The rubber is too soft. Not a problem on the Master Hunter and it wasn't a real problem on the Search & Rescue Knife either. But the people started changing the name into Survival & Rescue Knife and expecting stuff basically unrealistic for the way it's build. Cold Steel could have adjusted to these new expactations. I still like the knife and I have one but it's not a hard use knife in any way. It's a compromise.

When it does I will get rid of snap at the lanyard hole, pull the handle off, put some real strong apoxy on the tang, put the handle back on and put an open stainless steel snap (stronger) on the lanyard hole and it will never come loose again I guarantee it! You are right though! Cold steel could have spent a few more pennies made this so this problem would not have happened! Otherwise I believe the blade to be High Quality! Thanks for the Great Review! I am actually a bit surprised the tip on the SRK held up as well as it did. The hollow ground SK5 versions are notorious for snapping the tips under hard use.
    That said, I know for a fact that the Recon Tanto will hold up just fine battoning and chopping for years. I have owned them for years.
    Now, as I said before I don't throw my knives-any of them-I was taught not to. Other people do and that isn't a problem, but NO ONE throws mine.

    That's an explicit hardcore testing there , sad to see the tang handle didn't hold up, that's why full tang knives are always worth, when you are lost in the woods they will start chopping wood with even a small knife available with them in that situation. If you remember same case happened with the Rambo tactical knife after testing it by many users in their videos .. the handle just came off the blade as it was not a full tang knife and rather a gimmick model being sold as original one.
