Glad that he never compromised anything in terms of the character development of “Mahaan”. The shaping up of his character, and his ascent from being a person who is shoved with ideologies - to becoming the one who creates his own empire was highly compelling. This is the kind of craftsmanship that I’m expecting from KS in his future projects.

There are four main cards in a pack ..king, queen ,ace ,joker. When joker comes into hand you always wants to hold the joker no matter which card you have to drop. Joker is Dhruv in this film. Quite a emotional drama between playing cards.

a portion/scene which i really liked is the parallel to Gandhi's dream and the scene where he kills Sathyavan.
Both scenes-he does the same style of gun slinging, he lives heroically in his dream and feels happy, but in reality he is trapped in a life and aches for such a "cool" life.
But when he kills Sathyavan...he does do the same gun slinging, but he is alone. He doesn't even have a single individual he can trust; He is broken and alone, despite having it all he wanted-the money and the power.

One of the best movies of Karthik Subbaraj. Exceptional story teller... His style has its own identity and because of that he has a great future.
Sort of comeback for Vikram.. He is a great actor but at times tries to do some no brainer masala movies and fails to do justice to his talent. Just like Suriya, who did some great work in Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim, Vikram should concentrate or encourage young directors to come up with such projects..
Dhruv: Oh man.. what a young talent.. If this had been his first movie, it might have taken his career to the next level.. It was such an enjoyable experience

Mahaan is a film to remember for me. I loved it so much. It is deep and quite underappreciated by the audience. I hope Mahaan gets all the love and appreciation it deserves someday. I like the whole thought process of KS behind Mahaan. Expecting many such beautiful stories from KS.

Karthik Subbaraj should consider writing full fledged 16 hour dramas like Korean and Chinese do. He has lot of thoughts and content but struggle to compress it down for 3 hour movie. Give him freedom to write and explore more with dramas. Hopefully Netflix or someone will give him such opportunity.

      @Raja-mc3zt 2 года назад +1

@@annemoni1 I did watch parts of Breaking bad. While I agree many Tamil directors does get influenced from Hollywood content ( or copy for Hollywood like you say ), it’s good that someone deliver promising content. I mean, It is better to copy and try to progress than waiting for an innovative idea and stay stagnant down there. Two decades back China released Rokia ( copy of Nokia phone ), Zony ( copy of Sony) phone. We Indians were busy degrading them as copy and making fun of their quality while we did nothing. Today they are experienced and able to produce products which compete shoulder to shoulder with US.
So let’s not degrade and pull down the people who are contributing something for the better tomorrow 😅. Cheers.

@@Raja-mc3zt you should be ashamed to even support an idea like this , what shakes me about the guys like you and KS is that , despite everyone calling you guys out that you have copied the script , you shamelessly won’t we. give the Due credits to the original writer . @@annemoni1 You can keep yelling at me and others like that. As long as the deed doesn’t affect the life of others, I don’t think it is something that condemnable. When Tamil movie market share gets global, the movies of inspiration and copy will be reduced since other country movie makers will start to sue us. Until then, they themselves know that these small budget movie makers aren’t a threat. So you can watch it if you like, else you shall leave them rather than trying to preach your text book principles which doesn’t suit real life. Thanks.

It was top notch from him💥 Dhruv Vikram is definitely going to be the next big thing in Tamil cinema. He is a pure star material 🔥 I really loved the film even though it has its own flaws❤️ Mahaan is undoubtedly the best Karthik Subbaraj padam after Iraivi 💯

Some scenes in mahaan were exceptionally staged. And they were just mind blowing:
    1. Vikram's first fight scene... The way it was shot was just phenomenol... That shaky hand held camera shots.... Single take attempt... These experiments worked out so beautifully and made that fight even more appealing..
    2. The conversation between Rocky, dada, Vikram characters.... In every crucial points during that sequence, a train moves outside and the color changes... The camera get shakes... So inventive scene...
    3. That light flickering shot during conversation between sananth and Vikram in a street...
    4. The last conversation between Bobby simha and Vikram was shot so intensely..

This Deep Focus series of interviews is something I really look forward to after watching any film these days. It really helps to elevate the film appreciation level, at least for me. The movie, Mahaan in this case, worked for me in parts and most of the questions BR had asked here had either crossed my mind while watching the film or had helped me notice certain aspects which I had missed initially. You may like the film or not, but the way Karthik Subburaj explains his writing and thought process, you cannot ignore the fact he is a writer-director with clarity and clear cut idea of what he is doing. I found the film far better that JT and Petta.

Bro... This movie is a journey and ambition of 2 parallel characters bro.. They both have different motive and desire . So the length of the movie might have impacted.. If you follow the characters closely, you won't feel bored... And I'm pretty sure whoever saying this film is boring and lengthy, will be celebrating this movie in 5-10 years of time.. In line of Puthupettai, Hey Ram, Ravanan and Aayirathil Oruvan !!!

    • @deexith9559
      @deexith9559 2 года назад

@@mkboy38 I kinda agree with this one. Keeping it short and crisp wouldn’t have made this journey impactful, because the story revolves around two predominantly built characters with their own vision. Mahaan revels in success; Dada built himself so ruthlessly to avenge his own father for their sufferance. The second part of the film had more of emotions than the first part, so the length got really justified at some point.

I assumed the coincidental meeting of Sathyavan and Jnaanam was again an allusion to the card games. Like when you play rummy, and your hand is going ok but nothing great, and then you get a card from the deck in your turn, and it may have the chance to change the odds for you, suddenly you go on a winning path. That happens by chance, and same as the meeting of characters here at the opportune but unexpected moment

    I loved the the Movie..
Oru All time Cult Masterpiece ah vandhirukka vendiya padam… just miss aana mari irundhchu!
Second half could hv been better nu thonuchu..
Particularly in Climax, When Gandhi manipulates Dada..
Adhu varaikum Sema intense ah Oru floor la poyittu suddenly oru change aana mari irundchu..
    Better ending irundhirukalam..
Rocky and Sathya ku endha vidha justice um illaama irundhadhu mari thonuchu..
Gandhi sathya va suttadhuku reason eh..Dada tha..
Kadaisila Dada va ye jail ku anupurar.. So edhukaaha sathya saahanum!
Gaandhi betrayed his close friend.. Gandhi doesn’t deserve a positive ending..
I was thinking Climax la Naachi pathi thittuvaan Gaandhi.. So Gaandhi avanoda guilt ku aaha
avala kidnap pannenu Solli avan pullaya kaduppethi.. avan kaiyaalaye Gaandhi ya kolradhu maari pannirundhaa… Gaandhi sethiruppaan..
than Appaava thavarudhalaa konnuttome nu Guilt la ye Dada vaazhdiruppaan.. So idhu better ending ah irundhirukkalaam…

Having narrated a movie with layers of philosophy in it, Karthik still makes the protagonist win, irrespective of the wrongdoings from his side. I expected something like the way the lead was treated in Drishyam-2, where he technically wins but could not cherish it with his life. Here, however, Gandhi happily narrates his cunning plot to Dada and says selfishly that he cares about people calling him Mahaan and nothing else! This is something that irked me a bit, which I could not close as cinematic liberty.

But the only difference is that in Dhrishyam 2: the protagonist proved his mettle by going to any extent in order to protect his family, which is right regardless of what others think. It has a valid reason. However, in Mahaan, Vikram never committed any mistakes or wrongdoings for the sake of his pride. All he wanted was to live a life on his own terms. He indulged in hedonism. Even in the beautifully written climax, we can tangibly feel that Vikram is not guilty but rather complacent about his journey. Meanwhile, Dada is a maniac who was pathetically selfish and he ends up being a loser. That practically makes sense.
