- "What a Fool Believes" is a song written by Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins. The best known version was recorded by The Doobie Brothers for their 1978 album Minute by Minute (with McDonald singing lead vocals). The single reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 14, 1979, remaining in that position for one week. The song received Grammy Awards in 1980 for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
It's a George Michael cover of the song from live at Birmingham (bootleg). I think it's from 1991 his Cover to Cover tour.
George Michael is probably one of the few singer you'd want to sing your favorite songs made by other artists
FACTS!!!!!
THE best vocalist of my generation
Not on this song. George is great not here
@@opticscolossalandepicvideo4879 ? how _? That song is so hard to sing and many cant perform it ... Wtf are you talking ?
@@rolexaddict4344 listen to Michael McDonald’s version. George is great just not here. This blows serious chunks
Still strange not having this great artist among us
Anyone who has seen the cover to cover tour by George will know he was running full width of the stages singing these songs !! And still banging these notes!! Best pop vocalist of all time 💥
Some people just cannot sing out of tune no matter how hard they try!
Andrew Ridgeley mentions hearing George sing this cover in rehearsal for the Cover to Cover tour and getting goosebumps. He said it made the hairs on his neck stand up, but for whatever reason, George did not sing it at the live concert that evening. A also mentions how difficult this vocal is to sing. Unfortunately, George seemed to lose his glorious falsetto over the last 10-15 years of his life. But he still would’ve had it in 1991 during Cover to Cover.
That voice. Just pure ear candy. What a gift. ❤
❤
What a treat, I no idea he covered this song!
Oh, wow! What a surprise!
I didn't know George had ever covered this song.
Voice like velvet. Stunning.
God I miss this man.
George nailed it!!! He really is a Total Performer......!
I love his version. Refreshingly different
I can’t tell you how many songs I never cared for until I heard George make them his own. The man could sing anything and boy did he ever.
Is there anything this amazing guy couldn't do??!
And how he sings the part "anybody else would surely know" breaks me down. He interprets it differently than Michael McDonald but they both do it great!
It’s so Michael and he does it so effingnwell in this song. Truly marvelous!
@@SCarolinaX I wish Effingwell was a place so I could visit it and send out postcards.
@@edburns00 Hahahaha! It took me a sec to figure what you meant! Lol Greetings from Effingwell!
This man can take absolutely anybody else's song and make it his own !! Amazing! What a great loss this world has suffered!! 💔
You can't beat the original but this is a fantastic cover version.
One of my favourite songs from the Doobie Brothers, and George Michael did an amazing job singing it! Love this version.
This is the hardest song to sing... The vocals are really intense... I'm not a big fan of George Michael, but I have to admit, he is very competent... In "Tribute to Linda" He sang THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD, and, again, he did a great job.
it's a hard one but he did good. respect.
Eber Silva You are correct this is a very hard song to sing. Say what you want about George but he could sing. The Beatles cover was just amazing. Of course props to Michael McDonald when you hear George straining on the high notes.
More than .capable . Incredible singer and songwriter. Sorely missed...always and forever😇💜❤🧡💕💞💓💗😪🙏xxx June 2020! Xxx
@@sco3putt no straining!
Paul McCartney asked George to stop singing his songs and dedicating them to his dead wife. George agreed and publicly apologised
Wow, my absolute favorite song ❤

George Michael and the Doobies. Best of both worlds
this is song comes from Kenny Loggins :)
@@bogusawnowoszycki7939 Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald of The Dobbie Brothers co-wrote the song together.
Michael was able to sing everything ! - One more time he was amazing covering The Doobie Brothers famous song "What a fool believes" ! - We miss you Yog ! (R.I.P)
Co-written by Kenny Loggins
Brilliant cover of a great song. George really does have one of the finest voices of all time. Added to that he has such a great sense of pop sensibility.
I never heard this. I love it so much. I love you George🔥💕💋
RIP George Michael. Fantastic cover. He will be missed.
Great job. Rest in Paradise George Michael. He could sing anything.
MM has mastered pentatonic inflexions and scales. Thats why he can do ad lib so well. Blacks learn this in church and even MM's piano style is rooted in gospel. These techniques require a different level of pitch control like 'waterfalling' etc. Think 'When I met you' - young MJ.
Proficiency at that level of pitch control renders pitchiness obsolete. Just as you'd never hear an African drummer out of groove.
George Michael meet the Doobies. Pure perfection
George sounds so very much like Kenny Loggins...who co-wrote this song with Michael McDonald.
Can’t believe I’m only hearing this for the first time. Just marvelous, God I miss him.
Very hard song to copy yet he makes it fabulous X
George is sofkn amazing. He can sing anything. I think he is so perfect in every way. I love everything about my sweet George 🔥💕💋
George could be singing row row row your boat and I would give a shit less. No matter what he sings or the opinion of quality a fan is fan. Do yo thang GM...these critics wish they had even half of your talent.
One tiny fraction of his talent!
Haha I said to my husband the other day I didn't care if he sang Mary Had A Little Lamb, I'd think it was the greatest song ever lol
George michael always sings songs better than anyone else could. Always
You are right dear Cheri
Cheri Sundwall YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!!!!!
Cheri Sundwall sorry but he didn't sing this better than Michael McDonald. Nobody could.
Gordon.
Agreed, although he did a damn fine job of it. Not many other singers can do this song justice
@@gordonmarshall8397 George didn't do a bad job, it was just a little out of his comfortable range at times and you could hear the strain in his voice trying to reach the high notes.
I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FROM THE THE VERY MOMENT GEORGE BEGAN HIS CAREER HE IS THE BEST ARTIST OF ALL TIME WHAT A RIDE WHAT A RESUME NO ONE COMES CLOSE R.I.P
Bullshit!
Such an amazing version of the greatest pop song ever.. George you will be missed.
TheDive25 defenetely Michaels were on the same wave
yeah might be the greatest -- has soul/rock sound -- sounds great whoever sings it -- feel good every time you hear it
@@tommym7646 it doesnt sound good whoever sings it man, such a hard song to sing correctly. Anyone who can genuinely pull this song off must be able to sing. George had great taste im music.
@@angryquim7836 yep. A hard song to sing. He obviously had the original in his veins. Put in his own touches to this, which may not have been the most successful, but I absolutely give him kudos for this. :)
what a voice
God every cover he slayed it! Love u GEORGE
Leaves behind a geat body of work that will live on for an eternity...GOD BLESS!!!..RIP

George reigns supreme. He is the quintessential karaoke night sensation.
God, I hope somewhere there's professional recordings of the C2C tour to be released
Yeah that would be great.
there is, David Austin confirmed this in an itv with The Guardian. Killer/Papa was a Rolling Stone and Don't let the sun go down on me were also taken from that tour
@@frankvanachter4692 Any progress on how we can get a copy of a good sound recording on this? Totally essential!

Tinha que ser o incrível George Michael🤗🤗🤗

Superb!
actually a VERY GOOD Cover!
Mr. George Michael, you have done justice to this classic. Can you not allow a DUET with Mr. Mcdonald. Consider this. A FULL concert using BOTH your contributions to music. Friends of yours could stage a show to outdo all others in our OLYMPIC YEAR.
If only it was clearer I think it would be a fantastic cover of an already great song
this RULES. thanks.
