Good dancing is about the show, and seeing that the dancer is enjoying what they are doing. When this happens it doesn’t looked forced or panicked, and will flow, so it’s easy on the onlookers eye.
I have seen many technically correct dancers who are not a patch on those who feel and enjoy it.

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.
Well spotted on the knee lift.
Although the dance turns a quarter turn on that last count in the film , many dance schools kept it to the front as the floors were too crowded to turn and some new pupils found it confusing to start the dance in a new direction.
It would be more authentic if you could turn it, but not to worry if you can’t.

@@Derekofthedance so happy to hear from you. However there is a quintessential John Travolta step very kicks with a leg and does a movement with his hand and he does this in four directions this is his Hallmark movement. I wonder if you have a tutorial for this move? Do let me know.

    • @Derekofthedance
      @Derekofthedance  4 года назад

      Sameep Srivastava
Hi Samdeep I think you are referring to the 4 Kick (or flick) Ball Change, that he does when the You Should Be Dancing track is being played, where he turns a quarter turn on each one. I covered the basic KBC movement in the Night Fever vid, where we do 2 of them facing the front, but I haven’t gone any further on the technique as most people find it to difficult and Travolta makes this his own move in his style. I would suggest you take my basic teaching to master the move, then when you get better, look at the film clip, and see how close you can get to replicate it.
      Hope this helps you.
      Regards
      Derek

I understand the classic "disco point" figure. It was used in the Line Hustle dance - the disco point is where you point your whole arm away from your body in about a 45-degree angle, then you recoil that arm and outstretch it against straight to do that "disco point" again. In the actual line hustle, there are 4 disco points before you do that log-roll/funky chicken/hitch-step-to-kick and back home again to redo the line hustle sequence in a new wall.

I would've liked to see the actual dance in the intro then see it broken down into steps. Small critique but great video. Thanks

Thanks so much for this. Used it with the children in my class to be able to to the Saturday night fever dance for their production.

Very good! How does John do the feet shuffling he does walking back to his table to his friends? I always thought it looked so cool. He's walking, but shuffling his feet. Thanks.

Hi Randy, I’ve had a look at the clip and he is just walking in a funky style. It’s literally one foot then the other but using his upper body with movement to emphasise the steps. Hope this helps.

@@Derekofthedance Hi Derek. Thank you! I thought maybe he was still doing a dance step. You're dancing is great. I practice everyday now since I came across your videos. I have to say, you're really good! Thanks!

      Thanks for kind comments Randy.
Glad you’re enjoying your dancing, keep at it and it will become muscle memory and get better as you go.
The best advice I can give you is to keep everything simple in your practice rather than emulate from the start so you develop your own style as you will feel much more comfortable in your dancing 👍

Hi David, most men find it difficult to dance and feel comfortable whist doing it (and I don’t mean with 10 pints inside them 😀). Revisit this video several times, when you feel in the mood , and little by little, it will sink in. 👍

You are a really nice looking guy! Love your long legs, but mainly you’re just so generous with your instruction! You seem to not only care about teaching, but are you going out of your way to make it easy for us.
If you really wanted to promote yourself, I think it’s very realistic that you could have a booming RUclips channel. Women crave spending time with nice men, and that’s what you really seem to be!
I bet you’re the most popular guy on the cruise ship! I know I’d fight for a dance with you!

Sorry to hear that, maybe go for something simpler like side close side tap, then doing it while turning. Even simple steps look good when done well.
