  • Navigating with a map and a compass is as easy as 1-2-3 when you follow these 3 steps.
0:02 Basic features of a compass
    🧭 0:18 STEP 1
Place the compass on the map so that the edge of the ruler forms a straight line between your current position and where you want to be: your destination. Make sure the direction arrow is pointing towards your destination.
    🧭 0:27 STEP 2
Turn the compass housing so that the red part of the north arrow is parallel to the meridians of the map and points north on the map. The appearance and color code varies between different compass models, but north is usually marked with N.
    🧭 0:36 STEP 2
Lift the compass from the map and hold it horizontally in your hand. Turn the body and compass so that the red end of the needle lines up with the red north arrow. Now the direction arrow points to your destination. Take direction towards a landmark (also called aiming mark) along the direction arrow and start moving. Good luck!

Well done! Probably the best instructional video I’ve seen yet. Simplicity is genius.

Very good, thank you. I have been looking for an instructional video like this for days. All I have come across are British and American made, unscripted, unrehearsed, badly, amateurishly produced stutteringly unpracticed videos. What I want is clearly stated, educated professionalism and you gave it. Thank you.

Beautifully explained. Once it's set, don't move that bezel boys!

A do not see any problem if the bezel turns... .

If the bezel turns after you have lined it up against the North gridlines on your map, then your direction of travel arrow will be wrong once you put the magnetic North compass needle between the gates marked on the compass.

Silva compasses now made in China. Extremely high quality. Don't worry about the Chinese factory build. Great stuff.

The luminous markings on the arrow are useless on the last two I bought.

Jean Paul surely now, with the pandemic ruining western economies and lives we should be producing these here, wherever your ‘here’ is.

If you do this do you need to adjust for magnetic declination ?

    • @Uns_Maps_8
      @Uns_Maps_8 4 месяца назад

Yes, you should if the distance to be traveled is relatively long. Also depends on the declination angle being too large. For example in most of the UK this angle is less than 2 degrees so the influence is relatively very low

Your Expedition compass has a "GPS scale"! What is that, exactly?
