I helped my son-in-law buy a WD last year. Had him test drive it an everything. Never occurred to me that a 45 year old city boy had no idea how to handle a farm tractor from that era. He's got it figured out now, He's even taught two of his daughters how to use it.

I bought one for $1.5k 30-some years ago and it's still running great. A little hard with manual steering but still a great machine.

Worked for a farmer from when I was 12 until I was 18. Drove his WD and a WD 45 Diesel

When I wanted to get an antique tractor that would still be useful in smaller spaces, 1 of the few non-John Deere tractors my stepfather recommended is the WD-45. I was looking at Farmalls and he said absolutely not.

If the tractor moves forward with the hand clutch pushed forward the clutch is stuck. It may break free if pulled hard with a plow with the hand clutch pushed forward.

Many years on one of these ...it absolutely should not move with the hand clutch forward ...the only time I ever used the foot clutch was to engage the pto....by using the hand clutch you have live power on the pto making it a favorite for farmhand loaders, or anything else you wanted to keep running while stopping the tractor.
