Now THIS is how to do live action adaptations of anime. I like that it’s incredibly low budget and just scrapped together but the people involved were obviously very inspired. It’s clearly a small passion project they took very seriously. It’s unintentionally hilarious for how low quality it is but that just increases the charm for me. The actors look like people just cosplaying as the anime characters and the acting itself makes it feel a bit like a parody. I can’t even tell who is a standout among the actors. Joey’s actor looks absolutely nothing like him and his acting can sound uninspired to actually kind of funny, to actually somewhat believable acting. Kaiba’s actor captures kaiba’s “dick factor” really well and also kaiba’s seriousness while he duels. I’m just curious to what inspired these people to make this and the story behind it. I am a big fan of parodies and unintentional parodies are even more profound to me. It’s kind of like watching the big green dub of dragon ball which feels like a parody but it’s not.
I actually do want to see an official live-action Yu-Gi-Oh movie or series but with an original storyline. I have seen multiple people doing really good ones so imagine what a proper studio could do. By making an original storyline, it also means you don't have to worry about it ruining the original.

They are dodging the copyright the same as as said porn parodies does, making a parody of something is fair use and I think they can claim that is what this is. Y In any case, there is far more competent card game based fan movie though: "The Gamers: Hands of Fate". I recommend that one, it even have some decent acting. But kudos to the gang who made this, they could have used a little bit better effects without hurting their budget, channels like Caddycarus does so without costing an arm or a leg. We don't really have the same expectations for actors in a fan project as we have for professional products made to earn money but the clipart holograms felt a bit cheap even for a fan project. I can play Magic, got 4 moxes in my very old deck and some boxes with cards from the mid 90s but that is not exactly the same game and I haven't played a ccg in years.
