Eric, last year we bought diced frozen mangoes, blueberries, strawberries, etc.
I puréed them all together with a banana. I then Freeze Dried them and after that batch was finished, I freeze dried more batches and crushed all of the batches into powder and stored them in the Mylar bags with the oxygen eliminators packages and sealed them.
This past winter when we wanted a “Fresh” Smoothie, we opened an individual bag, added ice and water and blended everything together.
Those were fantastic fresh smoothies.
I’m making many more batches this year as well.
Try it for an excellent smoothie.
This year I’m going to add a raw egg to each batch just to see how well they turn out.
Growing up on my dad’s farm, during peach season, I’d go out every morning and pick a ripe peach.
I’d pit it, put it into the blender, add a raw egg, 8 oz of fresh milk, 2 cups of ice and a touch of vanilla extract.
I’d then puréed everything together and that was my breakfast.
I got my fruit from the peach, protein from the egg, calcium from the milk and H2O from the ice.
It was a perfect breakfast for an “on the go” teenager.
Try the recipe with or without the raw egg and make a batch or 2 to try for a great, year round snack.
If you like it, you’ll enjoy making more.
Have a Blessed Day !
Doc
Yep, smoothies work great freeze dried.
Freeze Drying is the BEST way to preserve your food, so that’s our main way
I have found most foods preserved in our freeze dryer to be "acceptable". They're not " as good as fresh" and I don't expect them to be.
We just did an egg omelet mixture and had some this morning. Perfectly acceptable and you might no be able to tell the difference if you didn't know they were freeze dried.
We also did blueberries, blackberries, and plums. Those aren't nearly as good as fresh, but again, acceptable.
My wife has made about 90 jars of jelly this week. Plum, blackberries, and blueberry. We will probably give away 90% of them since I do keto. Unfortunately, all 5 of our plum trees produce at the same time so we've gotten about 15 gallons. She's also made peach salsa and freeze dried a lot of peaches. We have 3 peach trees that produce at different times so all of these peaches, probably 400, came off of 1 tree. Apples and pears are also loaded as are persimmons. We didn't have a late frost so all the fruit trees set heavy.
That is awesome you had such a great fruit harvest. We did some blueberries last year.
Yes, I would say that all of the freeze dried stuff is perfectly acceptable and will be gourmet in a survival situation.
I just retired and my wife and i will be moving to our 9 acres in Tennessee. The garden and chickens will be our "hobby" and a source of food. I am thinking a freeze Drier would be a great way to store what we cant eat as it comes in. Do you thing buying from a farmers market and freeze drying would be a cost saving option for what we cant grow?
It should be a cost savings option before you are able to produce all of your own food. Much healthier as well. We did a video on costs buying organic vs conventional vs pre packaged freeze dried. Check out our playlist on freeze drying.
I scrambled and dehydrated my eggs slow and low. *120
Think theyre dry? 4 more hours.
I don’t know. I have never dehydrated eggs before. Freeze drying is totally different.
I think you didn't add enough water to the sauce and soup. They should be thinner and that's probably why the flavor is so strong.
I know. That is what I said and did.
Can you eat the green beans dry? Another great video! I appreciate you so much!
You can eat them dry. They are a great snack that way.
@@CountryLivingExperience so cool! 😎 🙏
Ha! I'm not sure what happened to your freeze dried eggs. My favorite eggs are freeze dried. I use an immersion blender, place in trays and then freeze before freeze drying. I do not use any seasoning during the process. I haven't tasted 2 year old eggs though. My Harvest Right was bought about 1 year ago.
I am not sure what happened either. I did the same as you. I might buy some from the store that don't have any preservatives and compare them.
I tried some asparagus this year, just some oil and spices in a pan before free drying. I brought them to work as a snack, they were great just eating them dry. I’m guessing the oil will reduce the shelf life considerably, but I’m only going to keep them a few months.
Awesome. We did that with okra and it worked wonderfully.
I thank you for your HONEST report. We get so tired of watching freeze dryer videos of preppers and/or homesteaders saying everything tastes just like fresh.
It. Doesn’t.
Flavors ARE a bit different. Textures are definitely different. Our teenage children, who are a professional baker and a budding chef, notice everything that’s freeze dried and will eat it but aren’t too excited.
But yes, as a survival food storing item, they’re top-notch when you have a farm, homestead ir shop great sales!
THANK YOU. Great and REAL video!
You’re welcome. I appreciate your comment.
I noticed the dried fruits at the store has citric acid and added sugar it adds something to the flavor.
Yep
