To be fair the ready wise is a 25 year shelf life while the peak is 5 years which probably would explain the lack of flavor. One is for prepping the other is for camping or hiking crap like that.
Haha when has Tyler ever been one to look at the details?
Mountain house has like 30 and it’s made for camping/hiking
Mountain House is decent.
Yeah that’s a good point and a clear distinction. But Tyler doesn’t look that far into the details haha
Not knowing the difference myself... this is good to know!
No matter what is on this channel, Tyler finds some way to make it entertaining. Don't know how, but I love it!!
His personality and just the way he does things is entertaining. Can't hate the guy really.
i can literally sit here and watch this dude review staplers STAPLERS and i was literally entertained the whole time tyler is my for real favorite youtuber he keeps it real and straight to the point lol
IKR he is pretty freaking awesome 2 watch love him 2 .
I challenge him to make waiting for the BMV entertaining
Just like the hammer
Mountain House was my go-to backpacking food. It's been around for DECADES. I always carried some salt and spices. Chilly mac was one that required some extra cooking. However, I seem to remember Mountain House way back when as having a cheese packet you added after cooking.
they have decent tasting stuff, but for what you get (especially nowadays) it's a bit expensive. My Patriot Supply has some Ok tasting stuff that is more affordable and offers a lot more than just emergency foods. their 2,400 calorie ration bars are surprisingly tasty.
if you want great tasting emergency foods, valley food storage and especially nutrient survival.
The mountain house water level is usually way too much. You could probably add 10-15 % less and vastly improve the flavor.
less water = more flavor
@@dunhillsupramk3 in this situation it's probably true
@@dunhillsupramk3 yeah because the flavor isn't as diluted in the water
"Never underestimate Readywise in their ability to mess something up."
That made my day.
tyler is the kind of guy who would eat MREs as normal food. we all know whats in his friddge, and an mre would be the healthy option
Flashbacks to his Thanksgiving video, yeah an MRE package would definitely be a safer and healthier option
@@crimsonemperor2219 funniest livestream I’ve seen lmao
@@crimsonemperor2219 There are some disgusting MRE's out there, they are not all that great.
@@BlackMoonHowls nor are they healthier, they're all like 3000+ calories from what I remember and mostly carbs for fuel with little fat or protein. Great when you're in the field for weeks, horrible if you are just trying to survive day to day
@@ThePwNzclan Unless you live at the firestation.
Anyone notice he had ”R” under the bowl for ”Peak” and the ”P” under the ”Readywise”. @1:06
@tylertube ya goofed bud
I was just coming to the comments to see if anyone else noticed
I was thinking the same thing and it honestly was aggravating me in the most mildest of ways since, he could of just put a piece of paper in front of the bowls to also show which one is which or get color coded bowls or something to see which was which since, he clearly didn't see that the R wasn't an R or the P wasn't A P either 🤣
You can also see the R on the bottom of the bowl when he adds it back to the bag at 2:04 for Peak.
Yes! Searching for this!
Tyler should get a freeze dryer and experiment with it, always a fun time freeze drying things like candy, meats, fruits... pretty much anything comes out strange and sometimes good AF.
That's over 2k dollars so unless he does it a lot not the best return on investment.
@@Random-ed2xf Very true, they are quite expensive. I would hope he could recover some of that investment if the videos were popular. I know *TKOR* The King of Random made some videos awhile back on freeze drying and they were quite interesting and popular as well
@@ProlificInvention I'm sure he could I watched those. But they also have over 12 million subscribers.
@@mattferrigno9750 depends, just want to point out that on the used market these still go for fairly close to new. If we're being realistic, it would be closer to around $500 after selling it. Probably wouldn't be hard to get rid of either if it's not been heavily used.
EDIT: I also remembered it could be written off as a business expense as well, so that'll kinda drive the price tag down even further.
@@paulghignon4092 Yeah in reality he could definitely benefit from it. He would likely make back the cost and then some within a couple videos using it. Plus they are quiet handy if you're the independent type and something tells me he is.
I’m curious on price difference and expectation dates. Like maybe flavor is sacrificed for food longevity?
Peak $12.99, Shelf life 5 yrs
Mountain house $9.49, Shelf life 30 yrs
Readywise $8.99, Shelf life 25 yrs
@@warzone895 so mountain house is the way to go then
@@warzone895 Is that per package? If so, holy shait.
@@rickardsvensson7097 yes per package.
@@warzone895 then thats fucked up expensive.
I can buy a 4 portion one for about 18 dollars.
And its pretty good. Not like home cooking good, but not extremly off. Its good enough for a few weeks without being so boring you rather starve.
But I also can buy 4 portions for 1 month for 250 bucks ish.
So 10 bucks per 1 portion? Thats crazy
For similar comparison type videos in the future I think it'd be interesting to also know the price differences
Also their shelf life and weight of package.
The ultimate survival food is 5 minute lunch Ramen and noone can convince me otherwise
On one hand, I can understand Tyler's criticism on the taste, on the other, in a situation where you actually need this stuff, you'll eat it because it's food. Taste becomes secondary when you need it to survive.
If it taste bad enough you will not eat it. I found every product from AlpineAire taste so bad I have never been able to get past more than a couple of bites
I would look also at the shelf life as a consideration because if your using it for backpacking meals peak would be ok with a 5 year shelf life. But if your wanting something for emergency food Mountain House has a 30 year shelf life and Readywise coming in a 25 years or more they say.
I have some perfectly preserved pie in an annoying machine that only works 1/100 times so ill be fine.
Ah good ol fallout.
Tyler: one thing you could've compared is their breakfast selection. They always say you can't screw up breakfast unless you try. LOL
The mountain house biscuits and gravy are actually kinda good.
@@That_5.0_Ranger but they're scrambled eggs never fully reconstitute...they always end up still powdery in the middle
Nah breakfast is literally the worst. The eggs are fucking disgusting.
You've clearly never tried the MRE omelet. The worst MRE ever.
Known as the vomlet.
@@johngalt2506 Nope never had the omelet, but had the C Ration ham and eggs, I think I was one of the few Marines that really liked it. LOL. But then again, I grew up with the rule if your mom took time to cook it, you'd better eat wither you liked it or not and ask for 2nd's. Dads' rules LOL
I really like some of the mountain house meals, I usually bring a couple when I go camping. Biscuits and gravy is the goat
Tyler: "This one's chewy, what kind of meat is this?"
Mountain House Rep: "It no longer exists!"
I use Mountain House and they work well. Never found the Stroganoff as bland really. Maybe not inundated in flavor but tasted pretty good. Blindfold really does not matter for this sort of test as they all are different. In the end they are good for for hiking. One thing I noticed is to use less water about 2/3 to 3/4 what is described to do. My gf loves the Mountain house lasagna.. so best to go less water otherwise too watery and can bland it
It's Saturday and it's now 7:07pm where's the new video
I swear I laughed so hard when he poured that last beef stroganoff out lmfao
Love watching Tyler. I wonder how these are after a 4 hour hike when your taste buds are drained. The semi-bland probably tastes a lot better whereas the normal tasting one could be "heavy" tasting.
You should probably keep some of the ones you don't like in your emergency supply too. (you can trade them to desperate people for stuff you might need) if they're hungry they won't care as much about the flavor. Also maybe the ones with less flavor could be fixed with some spices. IDK. Does one brand have more nutritional value? That might be important in a survival situation? I think I'm going to try this sample test with a few different brands of survival food too.
I use the mountain house meals for my hunting bags it’s pretty good.
That was pretty interesting, so many different choices, it’s good to see someone do a taste test !
Tyler you should try resting different types off chap-stick! My lips always get super dry and go through a tube off chap stick in less than a month
Think you got em mixed up at the end there. The one you dumped with “peas & carrots” was the adventure meal and that would be the one you said was best but I think I heard you call it peak instead. Much love brother keep em coming!
I find it interesting you pick peak everytime. I used to eat peak until I tried Mountain House and I thought it blew peak out of the water. Peaks packaging is also junk, I had multiple peak bags leak all over in my pack.
Me and my dad would always test MREs too and mountain house is the best! I would make them when I just wanted something quick to eat! The spaghetti is really good.
I've seen too many views on this kind of food and everyone always has Mountain House is probably the best
Apparently not
Mountain House is good enough for me. I would get peak if it wasn't $13 each vs $9 for the Mountain House.
I mean Tyler is a guy who doesn't like pickle, his taste buds are different than the reat of humanity
@@Storytelling35 It is. Peak is a Camping food with max 5 year Shelf life thus more flavor can be added and retained. Mountain House has a shelf life of 25-30 years and has only slightly less flavoring, for obvious reasons. One is obviously better here if were speaking on survival.
Great taste test video. More entertaining than others ive seen for sure
U should try all 24 military MRE's next, that is what I've been buying lately. I've had the mountain house teriyaki chicken and it was awesome.
I just saw these for the first time today at a truck stop in Wyoming. Peak was selling for eight bucks a bag and I wondered who would pay that? Backpackers.
Gotta admit no matter what he does always seems to make it entertaining ❤️
You should test more “as seen on TV” products! The last video was great!
You should also test more of these emergency foods, fun video
You should use different spoons in each bowl so you aren't cross contaminating your samples.
Good point.
He probably cross contamination’s dessert and dinner with the same spoon
Give the ready wise to people who know you were preparing before SHTF and tell them that’s all you have and they will leave and go find food somewhere else 👍 I was a Mountain House fan boy til I discovered Peak and now my mountain house is in a tote on the shelf for long term storage it’s so hard to go back once you realize how good a freeze dried meal can actually be 👍Peak Refuel👍for the win 🏆
Ill be sure to check out peak they have a pretty good selection
probably could have done My Patriot Supply as they have some pretty affordable packs and it does have palatable tastes. but they do also offer a wide variety of other emergency survival stuff that i think you could test out.
I work at a dc and peak is notorious for having horrible packaging always send the wrong stuff and half the time the bags aren’t even sealed
My Wife bought me Manscaped off his channel last year. That is a really good clipper.
I love my manscaped lawnmower 4.0
Im debating on getting it, any knicks on the turkey goblers? Cause they brand it like that, but i dont trust, been knicked before
@@teddylfiolyordan8775 Brother I have felt the pain of that cut on many a date night trying to clean up quick. That razor is pretty bad ass.It has not cut me yet and I have bumped them before.I would just suggest the razor. All the creams and lotions don't really smell good and you don't need them. They just have funny names. That razor is waterproof also.Very convenient.
@@teddylfiolyordan8775 I've never nicked myself with these clippers. They are 100% worth the money.

I appreciate this video. I've learned through trial and error that 4patriots is really good for freeze dried foods. Best I can remember. Certainly better than USMC MRE's. Won't stop you up either. 😁
Agreed.
We have a years worth of 4Patriots stuff along with a lot of canned meats.
Great video as always dude 👍
"Thanks for watching, I'm going to go finish these 15 different meals that I made for myself, and I'll make another video when I can talk without puking." - Tyler (probably)
10:56 im dying 😂😂
ive had mountain house beef stew and lasagna you have to add like salt and pepper or other seasonings and then they taste really good
I found a life hack for all of these
Hot sauce and occasionally cinnamon and chocolate sauce
Tyler: may you do more survival oriented reviews or test (even fictional ones) I would really enjoy that.
Great video! Thx bro👍🏾💯
Lol. Awesome. Sharing.thank you
Just a heads up, readywise is the only one that actually is emergency survival food. the others are actually low weight camping food, at least by way of advertising
I'm freaking starving right now. I would tear these up.
Peak Refuel hands down
do more blind taste tests, that was a really cool video!
Can you do a rich man freeze dried food end of world. Check out backpackers pantry, pack it gourmet, and Patagonia provisions . Pack it gourmet makes really good meals.
Good video! Probably saved me some money. Thanks!
My go.to are surplus military MREs. They don't have as long of a shelf life as these but they are actually really good
Like with most pre made survival type foods the sodium tends to be high flavor tends to be lacking . Canning or making your own meal plans are better long run . But Mountain house / Backpackers pantry are mild range short term survival food. Ready Wise is the cheaper alturnative usually . I have been A prepping type since 2010 ... Beans ,Rice home canned meats veg and dried fruit are in my supplies along with protein powder and milk powder in mylar bags . If you got the cash a freeze dyer can be a good long term investment but if expecting shit to happen soon . buy canned goods and shelf stable food along with food grade storage buckets . The time to prep is always cause never know what the next day can bring
love the content and i find it amazing we all take advice from the guy who cant stand pickles lol
I have had the beef stroganoff from mountain house. It was pretty dang good
You should try the Bakker prepper buckets for hits and giggles.
Mountain house has always been my favorite. I think you added too much water because mine were never that consistency. That could be why it’s bland
you always make me hungry when you make videos like these. I just ate dinner
Louis de Palma from taxi had freeze dried legumes and freeze dried ice cream and forbid the eating of ice cream until you ate your legumes. This is epic up there with that show....they both make me hungry.
these would make amazing “depression meals” 😅👀
Did you compare the nutritional value of them? Is Peak high in sodium and/or sugar? I would be interested in that since it had so much flavor.
I have had mountain house and ready wise before. I did not like ready wise. I will try Peak now.
8:15
"this ones not good at all"
takes another bite
I love that buzzing noise in the background probably a speaker or something that's not directly connected to the wall
Here we go it's the when ever channel blindfolded leaves the fork in the bowl then reaches out for the others in the right direction .....nice posta try replacing the o with an A then you get pasta😂😂😂
You should try all the breakfast options next
I'm currently enjoying a mayo sandwich with tuna on white bread.
I’m curious as to what the shelf life of these are. Are they all the same, different, or even different depending on flavors?
You should do breakfast and deserts if you can find enough to compare. The biscuits and gravy from mountain house is decent.
BRO TYLER YOU NEED TO TRY Pad Thai BY Backpackers Pantry. dude it is INSANE good if you like that kind of thing.
I'd love to see a taste test of all the Huel Savory flavors
Hey Tyler, where’s them mason jars at? What’s festering inside ur house at the moment 😂😂😂.
I wish that we could have a Mexican candy or Mexican food video part 2 on TylerTube
the first two actually look really good
Manscape has been around for ages 😅
Good goin
i love mountain house i got about 20 or 30 of them stockpiled
Yeah I was gonna say I think u needed to add water to the third one!!! Lol 😆
Peak is by far my favorite brand and mountain house is my 2nd they do have some good ones
I did not know I'd enjoy the video as much as I did
Get a freeze dryer and trying drying different foods to see how they taste. Maybe add some fast food in the mix.
Your a good man and you make good vids and live streams
These are pretty expensive at $13 a pop for that price you could buy Thrive Life and make meals in jars. The Freeze Dried Foodie channel has some delicious recipes. I’ve made several of her recipes they average $4-$9 for 2-3 servings in a quart jar. It’s more effort putting the jars together but there’s no msg or other additives in the food.
Peak meals are the best. I’m a professional backpacker and they’re all I eat when doing freeze dried meals. Peaks pesto chicken pasta is fantastic
What exactly is a pro backpacker?
@@TrulyUnfortunate I backpack 80% of the year testing different gear for pack companies 😁 and give feedback also a photographer
I was pretty shocked by your results. I have only ever had Mountain House and Peak but for me all of the Peak meals I have had left a terrible chemical type aftertaste in my mouth. my only complaint with the Mountain house ones is that they are pretty salty.
I haven't yet tried Mountain House; but, every MRE I've ever tried has that tell-tale chemical aftertaste. The old C-Rations were Outstanding!!
Chili Mac mountain house is my go to for hiking.
Mountain house lasagna with meat sauce is heaven. You must of gotten a bad batch of that one or something..
IIf I am correct all three can be used for back packing but only two are marketed for prep and one marketed primarily for backpacking but has a 30 year taste guarantee. Peak is backpacking food that I think lasts 5 years though obviously in the right conditions these foods dont just become poison but rather loose taste and nutrition after their life. MH is marketed for both with a 30 year guarantee. And RW is considered more of a prep food I think but I believe with that same 30 years...
Tyler if you do this again you should try Stowaway Gourmet
NGL all things considered all of them seemed pretty decent, im surprised, I might actually try some for peek.
Lol that look after the 3rd dump
but if you notice peak isn't coming out as wet as the other food products for maybe you should have put less water in the other packages because like top ramen depending on how much water you have with your noodles you could have more flavor or a watery soup type flavor
My brother is a veteran and gets mres. They have a heater that activates with water. I use them during power outages and they taste good.
Tyler’s neighbors: that Tyler guy is doing weird stuff in his garage again
I'll report myself to peta. Thank you
This is the first time I've seen a comment like this after watching for quite some time so idk what your problem is 🤣
watching this made me hungry lol.
You should definitely include militarty MRE in that test
MRE's are really expensive compared to the freeze dried stuff.
To have a years worth for two people would be prohibitive as far as the price goes.
That being said I do have two cases of MRE's.
@@TrulyUnfortunate that would be because MRE's are designed for 1 meal to equal 2000 calories. IE enough for a grown man for a full day. In a pinch
