    Great value for money.I have GT JTS for 6 years and still drive it.Regular service shedule and oil 10w 60 always on max and no problems.Injectors could be troublesome and cams could be damaged if oil isnt regularly changed.My car havent got serious isues so far.Love that car.

    I've only owned shit boxes so far, and looking for another one in the form of this GT. How would you say it handles compared to a 3 series of similar power? I'm not exactly a race car driver, but I do enjoy driving, so some cars did disappoint me. (Owned 3 Citroen knock ups - romanian Oltcit, a Renault 5 GT Turbo, an E36 325i, then a 230 Kompressor CLK - very disappointed in road manners, it understeered worse than Audi, then another E36 328i which I loved.) Would you recommend this car to a driving enthusiast? Again, I never drive 10/10 on public roads, so I reckon I could enjoy this (maybe at 7 or 8/10s). I'm a RWD fanboy, but I just love the looks of Alfa's and also their heritage, so very tempted by this GT. Looking fwd for your advice, cheers!

    Welcome to my world. Test drove a Alfa GTV 2.0 and HAD to own it. 2 weeks later, having never owned an Alfa before, I suddenly had a GTV and a 147. Fast forward a little longer and suddenly I had 3 of the damn things as I'd found another GTV in slightly newer, better condition than my first. With correct maintenance they are fine and I've not had a single Alfa nightmare issue. And as predicted, now I'm shopping for a GT, or a V6 GTV, or a 159, or maybe an Alfetta.

    Had one of these for two years - mine was a 3.2 V6. The suspension was pants. Wonderful car in every other way - engine noise made me grin like a lobotomised chimp, as did the shape of the thing parked on the driveway. Best thing I've ever owned. Sold it because the V6 was bankrupting me. Have another Alfa right now, a 159 - it's not quite the same. Still very pretty but heavier and less fun. Might go back and get another GT at some point.
    Small world - I'm also in Cornwall and have just taken up biking for the first time. Weather has been appalling since I picked up my first bike a day or two ago, so in the garage it stays!

    • @DassRoc
      @DassRoc 7 лет назад

      is the JTD any good? reliable?
      sounds like a fantastic car, but the fact that it costs just a little more than an A3 from 2000 here in Portugal makes me question it, despite looking and sounding amazing

    • @Strike86
      @Strike86 7 лет назад

      DassRoc It's reckoned to be one of the better diesel engines out there. Great fuel economy and power with good refinement too.
      Only thing you need to watch out for on the GT is the suspension components because they eat them pretty fast - listen out for squeaks, rattles and clonks coming from the front end.

    • @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes
      @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes  7 лет назад

      Yes ARB Bushes need replacing every 12/48 Months, as they tend to fail, leading to "clucking" coming from under the car, other suspension components can fail pretty early too

    • @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes
      @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes  7 лет назад

      I hear good things about the JTD - in fact my Neighbour has just purchased a 2006 JTD and he loves it, as for reliability, just look over the car very closely and give it a good test drive to listen for any odd noises or smoking, also check the thermostat works (common failure) check for damp in the boot as the seals can fail, just spend as much time as you can looking for any issue, and don't get too emotional over the car, because they do look very sexy! :)

    • @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes
      @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes  4 года назад +1

      Well the Alfa is a LOT bigger! but the comfort levels are much better, there is a sense of driving something special with the GT where the Celica is a great drive, but still feels like any other Japanese car, solid and reliable, but not overly exciting. They are both around the same price now, so it's a question of what you need, a reliable car that still looks cool, and where parts are cheap, or something a little more special which will no doubt end up in the garage a couple of times a Year having something fixed. Personally I would suggest the Alfa is better for someone who has some mechanical knowledge and can at least keep it serviced and replace the normal wear and tear parts when needed. Plus you need to remember the Celica is a camchain, where the Alfa uses a belt that needs changing every 3 Years or 35.000 Miles at around £400!

    Looking to buy one on Thursday! Wish me luck it's not a lemon 😂 how're you finding the gearbox?

    • @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes
      @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes  7 лет назад +4

      That's One of the first things I noticed on the GT - the gear lever seemed to be very loose/wobbly, it's quite common so I'm told, and there are fixes for that issue, something to do with the plastic selector if I remember? but hard to get to in order to replace that part (unless you good with a wrench) so something else to check while your test driving it ;)
      Listen out for any "clunking" coming from under the car too, very common for ARB bushes to fail, need replacing every couple of years
      Make sure temp gauge works 100% , another issue is thermostat failure, and get it in to reverse and make sure sensors are working, another common fault, which means bumper s off to fix
      Good luck :)

  • @leegreveson
    @leegreveson 7 лет назад +2

    beautiful example, even for £1k you can budget to pay for any issues and have that sill seen to properly. I'd probably have to have the diesel 1.9 as I do about 60 motorway miles a day. Look forward to any updates you publish.

      @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes  7 лет назад +2

      I didn't really have it long enough to have an opinion as to reliability, but there are quite a few "known issue's" if you do get One make sure it has good history, and that the timing belt has been changed when due, as it's 3.5 years or 35.000 Miles on these! also listen out for any knocking from under the car, usually ARB bushes need doing, and check the temp gauge works, as Thermostats failing is common too - first thing I did was join a GT Facebook group, lots of guys on there with lots of knowledge, and quite a few cars for sale too :)

    • @LittleRedFastBall
      @LittleRedFastBall 7 лет назад +1

      Thank You a lot!
