Amazing movie! Finally someone who reacts to it thanks for your sacrifice haha. The cut troat scene is for me the most realistically looking gore scene I've ever seen it's super brutal. Amazing performance from Tom Hardy but Jessica Chastain takes the cake as she almost always do in movies she in. "Not a got damn thing happened" is a line that was written for her.

In the film, Jessica Chastain drives Forrest, but in reality, as his grand nephew tells is, Forrest did in fact walk several miles to the hospital holding his throat closed between his fingers. Legend has it anywhere between 9-20 miles. He also was indeed shot a bunch and survived.

I would very highly recommend a Tom Hardy film from 2014 called The Drop, it also stars Noomi Rapace, and James Gandolfini (in his final film role). Everyone is amazing in it but Hardy puts in a performance that for me is even above his other roles, it really hits deep. If you are familiar with the writer Dennis Lehane it is based on one of his short stories.

I saw this film, loved it, and so bought the non fiction book it’s based off. Almost nothing that happens in the movie happens in the book. There’s no gunfights, no tangles with law enforcement or gangs, and there’s only one fistfight in the whole book. Basically it’s just a man nostalgically writing about his youth and the vanished world of bootlegging. I mean, it’s a fine book and well written, but I have no idea who read it and thought it’d make a great action film.

The Proposition is also written by Nick Cave and a great (Ausside) film, directed by Hillcoat too.
Wish they'd adapt ...And the Ass Saw The Angel.
Cave also wrote a script for the sequel to Gladiator that was rejected for being "insane" 🤣
Actually - if you haven't seen it, you should check out The Boondock Saints - Norman Reedus, Billy connolly, Sean Patrick Flannery and Willem Dafoe (in a GLORIOUS role). It's amazing fun and the "making of" story is utterly bonkers - how to trash you career as a Director 101, but the end result is totally worth it, it's an amazing fun, funny action-thriller that the studio basically buried out of spite at the Director.

Nationwide prohibition in the US was from 1920 to 1933. After that some counties still enforced different forms of prohibition locally. Sometimes it was complete prohibition. Sometimes it would only allow alcohol sale/service on the weekends, etc.. . Beyond that, selling any alcohol without a license is illegal anyways. In certain situations crooked local law enforcement would turn their heads as long as the bootleggers gave them a cut of the money.

Back in prohibition days, they had 'Moonshine Rummers', these were race cars specifically built to run on moonshine and outrun the police, originally Nascar was born from moonshine running. So if I was asked what is the true religion of North America, I would have to say it was that of the natives.
Or do you think one of the religions that has only been practised on that land mass for the last few centuries is more American?? 🤔
And for you chrissie the only reason they focus on the knuckleduster so much, is that the knuckleduster was hung on the wall by one of the brothers and decades later a son/grandson questioned him about it. And after that the whole story of the bootlegging bondurrant bros came to be written and heard of outside of where it happened.

Quentin Tarantino has always had barefoot scenes in his movies. And Inglorious Basterds came out before Lawless.
Washing of feet was a thing in the Bible. 1..because they wore sandals. And 2, it symbolizes humility and Jesus' teachings of putting others before yourself. Here in this scene in the German Baptist church, it is, done as a ritual to remind them to put those traits into practice.
