After losing a beloved animal friend, I have found great comfort in adopting soon after. Their love and companionship had been a source of inflowing joy for me. When they pass on I am left with a huge empty pool . Adopting another who is searching for love and belonging renews that inflow of joy. In this way I feel I can honour and show gratitude for the blessing of the love that I have been gifted with. Together, my new family member and I can be a living testimony to the preciousness of this bond of love. I would encourage anyone facing this loss to consider this option of honouring your loved one.

I agree, when I had more than 1 dog and one died , the others missed that one so went and adopted another a few weeks later, when my last dog died in 2018 I wasn't having anymore, I got to 3 weeks and then started looking for a new dog,2 months later my new adopted 7.5 year old Husky moved in, she is my 12th dog.
far too quiet in the house and going for long walks [we walk over 8 miles per day] without a dog is weird, plus we meet and talk our other dog walking friends.
You new dog will be nothing like your previous one so it's not being replaced, it's the start of a new journey with a new friend

I lost my little Benny on 9/10/23. I still can't bring myself to look at his little shirts or walk where we used to walk. Don't let anyone rush you
into doing anything. You don't need to make other people feel better. They need to support you and if they can't do that they need to move on.

Having access to competent, compassionate veterinary care is the most important part of healing grief at end of a pet’s life. Keeping mementoes only makes me sad although photos of themwhen healthy are comforting.

Loved the video I just lost my lucky boy Saturday and it’s very hard he was 12 I had no idea he was very sick it just happened all at once one of the hardest things is watching them suffer not getting better then taking them to a hospital to see if they can fix them then you end up going home alone I’m so broken

We put down our senior Papillon a couple of months back. Reddy had stopped eating almost entirely and had gone from 10.6 lbs. to 8.4 lbs. It was a hard decision but I didn’t want him starving to death. I had dry and wet food, allergy meds and flea and tick meds left from him. We took all of it to the rescue where we’d gotten our previous dog, Pandora, a GSD mix. They happily took our donations. I still have his coats which I’ll wash and donate.

I suffered after the loss of my birds .They were like my soulmates. But every place I’ve visited were dog & cat losses. What a shame no one discusses bird losses as well as other exotic pets.

You can adapt most of the pet loss clips to your precious birds. Also, I have a rabbit, and the various FB bunny pages are very supportive of people who have lost their buns. There may be pages for bird owners that also discuss this....
