  • This is an introductory video that goes over different ways to record vocals and guitar together. I go over five different ways to record, then compare them side by side:
    1. Camera Phone
    2. DSLR Camera + Shotgun Mic
    3. DSLR Camera + Vocal Mic + Direct Guitar Plugin
    4. DSLR Camera + Vocal Mic + Direct Guitar Plugin + External Guitar Mic
    5. High-End DSLR Camera + Vocal Mic + Direct Guitar Plugin + External Guitar Mic

Really enjoyed set up 4. Might have to try that. I usually go direct with my guitar and use a dynamic like the 7b to prevent bleed so I can mix them more independently. All of them sounded good though!

Thanks for a great tutorial! Nice singing too. One has to go surprisingly far to beat just the phone audio

Thank you! And yeah, I've noticed that too. Once you go from something fully automatic like a phone, it takes a while to see any improvement. But once you get there, it makes a huge difference.

Wow Omar! Way to go above and beyond! This is the best video I've seen on YT on this topic. Thank for for taking the time to show the comparisons between the different recording options. It is amazing the difference the external mic makes in the sound of the acoustic guitar. Much better. One quick question. What is the flexible mounting arm you used for that guitar mic? Really nice for mounting to the vocal mic stand,

Thanks. And thanks for the suggestion! I had to learn all of this through trial and error as I could never find a good video to cover the basics, so your idea was perfect. The mic holder is a table mic clamp grip with goose neck extension. It works well for mounting to just about anything which is always convenient.

I think it would be fine for either, but I don't think that's the type of mic that you can use for both at the same time.

I remember when Adobe Audition was called "Cool Edit Pro" from Syntrillium Software.

I was thinking about trying step 1.5, a USB mike into my computer and Garageband - but that would be only for recording audio.
