I've been playing guitar for a very long time. i recently decided to challenge myself with classical guitar. I thought I'd have an advantage in already knowing how to play the instrument. The differences have proved challenging though. I"d like to thank you for these videos. They've been very encouraging.
I got my first classical today! It's a Cordoba Dolce 7/8 (bc i have small hands). I've been playing classical at school and I really like it. The first solo I learned is Vals by Catalyud and I'm working on Tarrega's Study in E Minor to go to UIL in January.
I am learning acoustic guitar but it's not easy. So it was lovely to watch and see that everyone starts in the same place. I'm 65 and my fingers appear to be half the length of yours so I doubt I will ever play Asturias or similar but I don't mind because I enjoy the challenge. Love your playing.
*@Gothic Writer.* Please, please, please do not think that way. If you love it, arm yourself with patience, you can do it. Never get frustrated or discouraged while learning and practicing. As a baby, you fell down and got up many times before you finally enjoyed walking and running, and even climbing. During practice, isolate yourself somewhere and practice as long as your time permits. Keep it up. Please.
I'm of the same age. If you enjoy it, keep practising. I must say 20 mins each day using Guilliani 120 study practice pieces has helped me a lot. All the best!!! .
What a great look back to your beginnings with the guitar. Thanks for sharing this peek at your history. It's great to see the steps of a great artist !!
This old dog might never be able to get the proper techniques of a classical guitar down pact, but I really appreciate the advice of alternating the “i” and “m” fingering. Playing with only one finger and the thumb is quite challenging to learn complicated pieces of music. I surprised myself by learning how to play Lagrima even with my improper technique. Thanks for sharing, Alexandra. 💕💕💕
Notes on ledger lines spell FACE. The top line is F, so the ledger lines about that fill in ACE. The bottom line is an E, so the ledger lines below that fill in FAC. This helps my students and I hope it helps you. Great video and great community.
I enjoyed this ENTIRE video! Thank you Alexandra! In addition any biographical vignettes or stories you can share would be of real interest to me. For example, a teacher or artist that inspired you; what caused you to progress from pop, rock and jazz to classical music; how you chose guitar over other instruments, etc. Congratulations on 200K subscribers! I wonder how your album sales are going and if you're booking concerts now? I hope you like your new home!
Gosh I miss studying classical guitar. In college are classical guitar ensemble had a dozen or so players, best experience of my life. Truly amazing experience. Your content is fantastic! This takes me back to when I had time to play.
You have a wonderful expression as you so very nicely articulate your thoughts. Love your friendly smile, and expressions as you share with us your background. You are so welcoming by allowing us into your home, and you are so very open with your true feelings. It simply goes to show that when you play, you are a natural, and you express yourself through your musical skills. Wonderful Job. Thanks again for greeting us and receiving us into your home setting.
Really takes me back to when I was 7-8 just learning how to play almost 20 years ago!! Very nostalgic and I grew up learning in very similar ways and can relate to a lot of your struggles. I wish no one would have ever taught me a system of numbering notes like 63 for low G or 50 for A. Really was a crutch for me not learning to sight read properly.
Your way of learning sheet music…. Why didn’t I ever think of that?!?! I did it for learning the names of the strings long before I learned how to read sheet music. I think I would have learned how to read sheet music twice as fast if I had done the same as you. And my teacher said I was his fasted student to learn how to read sheet music. Explains how logic it can be if you simplify it.
What an amazing musical journey! 🎼 And appreciate your vulnerability and honesty. You are truly talented and have an amazing work ethic. Continued success.
Congratulations! You are very talented person, Alexandra. Obviously this is just a beginning of your success. Wish you to have 1 mln soon. P.S. Your Russian dance is beautiful) Greetings from Russia!
I like this video!!! ! And even the simple pieces do sound so nice when you play them. I'm looking forward to watching part 2!!!👍 ☺️ Hope to recognize some pieces I try to play 😁
I remember music class years ago Every, good, boy, deserves, Fudge 😂 And the face. Always love good music and songs, but never learned to play. Maybe one day. God bless.
I just found your channel and love your stuff. I have switched from folk and rock to classical guitar and now I am trying to learn to read sheet music. I am literally back at square one with this...it so hard...but I am getting there......i m i m i m i m

Lovely video! It ended more or less on the level I am at now. I haven't played for a long time but picked it up again. My main instrument the last 25 years is the double bass which feels a bit different under the fingers...
Is that you playing the Augustine Barrios Val’s in the background? It takes a lot of patience to watch beginners learn. Thanks for reminding guitarists to be responsible for thinking about what helps beginners develop techniques and timing and where to find appropriate pieces.
Xin chào Alexandra ,tôi và những người hâm mộ tài năng của bạn , luôn chờ đón những nhạc phẩm mà bạn mang đến cho chúng tôi với sự tinh tế và hoàn hảo !

Mind you, you have a great voice, too. I love watching your performances and hope to see you sing someday. Stay healthy, be well and keep up your fantastic job!
I like to teach Every Green Bogey Deserves Flicking... My kids love it, and it's really fun when one of them shouts out "BOGIES" even though Dick and Dom isn't a thing anymore. Sad times.

This was great! I am in my mid 50s and took up classical guitar about 4 years ago. I am self taught and use tab instead of reading notes to make it easy on my old brain. I would say I'm probably at grade 2 -low 3 level. My problem is that I still play everything so choppy. How cam I work on that to make it sound smoother ?

Nice. I can still play a handful of the grade 1 exam pieces from 40 years ago. Those early pieces stay put.
I just sent this to my granddaughter, Lily, who is 7 and just starting to play the guitar.😊
I see a lot from Frederick Noad's excellent series of books. Your teachers were getting good material to you.
