- I gave ChatGPT $2000 to invest with and in this video i'll explain how we built the trading algorithm and what the returns looked like after 24 hours of live trading. First, a disclaimer - Do NOT invest any money in any type of trading bot or algorithmic engine that you are not willing to lose. I gave this trading bot $2000 because I was willing to lose $2000 to make a great video for my AI Wizards out there. ChatGPT is unique in its capabilities as a large language model because of its ability to remember the context of of a conversation. This AI is helping me build MVPs a lot faster and I want us all to take part in this revolution. The tools used in this tutorial are the Alpaca API for live trading data, Python for Programming, FinRL for Deep Reinforcement Learning and Vercel for live deployment. I work with lots of them so understand most of this but not apps/sites I normally work with....First video I have watched from Siraj and had to subscribe. There is something called the Kelly Criterion that is worth adding to the logic here. The Kelly Criterion, also known as the Kelly formula or Kelly strategy, is a mathematical formula for determining the optimal size of a series of bets in a gambling or investing context. The formula is based on the idea that the optimal bet size is the one that maximizes the growth rate of your capital over time.
All that tells you is how much to risk. It's optimal based on your past stats, but in my experience it's held me back from making way more. Your win rate average seems like a smart stat to include, but it's not. Because it's not tuned to the setup you are looking at, some setups have a higher win rate than others for your trading style, and the stat just regress you to the gaussian with no skew to the set up.
Provided you trade a very small fraction of Kelly.
The Kelly principle is used to manage a portfolio rather than create a strategy of investment iMO

Amazing work. The assumptions to this video are that you technically understand python and the different operating system commands along with the goal. I would have appreciated a better synthesis statement of the problem at the beginning. Great idea and implementation.
You do have to know something to do things with chatgpt and google. It’s def not a silver bullet. You get what you ask for so key is knowing how to ask!

This is a great video. But I still want some more explanation and updates. One day of trading doesn't tell us that much. I would like to see your results after one month.
First time that I have visited your channel, I like your content and its not unlike others that lures via clickbait, and the gains made at the end of the video are realistic, even if its less than 1%, that the reality, thank you for pointing in the right path, definitely will try to learn Python first.

Excellent job, both on the actual bot, and the video.
If I may suggest... since you're already using a neural network to calculate the sharp ratio, it makes sense to use one to determine your upper and lower thresholds based on past results, (instead of just guessing "0.2" and "0.4"), to maximize your financial gain.

@@edwardmitchell6581 There's no good way to find this answer, as it's fully dependent on the strategy & the users risk tolerance, therefore it's more static and not dynamic, dynamic being something ML is good at.

I would be keen on seeing this over a 3-12 month return. 1 day, 1 week, 1 month are all too short to see. Could you post an updated video 3 months down the line to see how your bot has done over the span of 3 months? If it can generate 1.60% per day compound that would make your $2,000 around 7.5K in 3 months.

This is a rip off of another project and guess what, they lost 2% more than everyone else did because the bots just gave them the same bad advice as every armchair investor did on reddit and on blogs.
I get your point guys, but for people with no trading knowledge or experience who just want to trade and can't be convinced otherwise, this way they will have a much better chance at making a profit or at least not loosing too much.
Ever since ChatGPT became available, I have been trying to see if I could use it for trading. I didn't know how to even start. Your video is exactly what I had in mind. Thank you for making this available to AI newbies like me. I would like to build a bot which can trade the best option strategy for the current market.
It sounds like you maybe shouldnt be trading options. The best advice I was ever given with trading is first, learn risk management. Then continue to hone your skill with it. you can be the worst trader in the world but still be profitable with proper risk management.
Surely ChatGPT can start you down that rabbithole.
What he is doing here is not an option strategy, but a price prediction on the stock. You would simply adjust your option strategy to be more bullish or bearish based on the results of this.

Siraj: stocks behave like a memoryless process for the most part. Trying to out guess the markets is futile. $ cost averaging investing of quality companies is the way to go. Now, if you had an app that can sort the wheat from the chaff, then that would make life easier for investors looking for quality stocks.
Wow, not sure how I ended up here, but I feel like a junior high student sitting in on an advanced Calculus class. I know nothing about coding or programming so I am totally out of my depth, but I love this stuff and wish I could create a model like this (or just have access to one.)

For those saying that are saying that 1 day of succesful trading does not proove that this is a good platform, I think it's important to remember the point of the video. I'm not a mind reader but I stronly suspect that Siraj's purpose was to show that using ChatGPT, a person can easily develop a complex AI system to automate stock trades which I feel the video did quite well - I do not believe the point of his video was to actually develop a functional and usable tradingBot (functional yes, usable - maybe, maybe not)

but wait, what was the market that day, specifically, the subsector of those stocks that you traded in? What was the absolute return minus the market result?
Great work, though I'm pretty sure the technical indicators at 12:45 only has 4 indicators (macd, rsi, cci, dx), though when I tried to run the same file, it only demonstrates 2 technical indicators (macd and rsi).
Using TA indicators only will likely to lead you to big losses in the long run. 😊

I was trying your model and API. Can you clarify on how this model can be used on real time data? And also how you are calculating sharpe ratio in realtime? Or even better if on the github you can add your flask code to understand exactly how realtime data is being used for trading.
I had the exact same question. I can backtest, but I have no idea how to find the current sharpe ratio.
I strongly suspect that he did not use this model to make his trade. He hard coded the NVDA trade as you can see in the code

Btw really loved your video...But I have questions which is instead of line chart we could have used OHLC for 2, 5, 15 mins or tick data to train the model for more accurate results and also I feel logically if we see building such model for stocks would be a bit challenging as different stocks with different Mcaps behave differently as compared to the commodity or crypto.
Siraj, just a suggestion. Try Sortino ratio instead of Sharp ratio. Why? Sharp punishes volatility. Sortino rewards volatility which goes in your favor and punishes losing volatility.

I spent an hour trying to make chatGPT give me XML-to-JSON function in plain frontend JS. It kept failing until I gave up. However, the guy is taught apologize very well. And it communicates politely.
My current thesis is that ChatGPT is more likely to help you if you are polite to it by using pleasantries in your prompts like "please" and "thank you".

You have to break it down in steps, and do the rest yourself.
I'd first ask it to parse an XML file, then I'd ask it to turn it into JSON. Afterwards, I ask it to enable pretty print so it's actually readable.
I did something similar in Java and it even taught me how to organize the variables by order in the JSON, and even mapping variables from the JSON to a Java variable.

It’s all in the FinRL library, it allows you to plug in different data sources, like alpaca. alpaca.markets/learn/data-scientists-approach-algorithmic-trading-using-deep-reinforcement-learning/
@@SirajRaval Yes, but you didn't use that data to decide whether or not to purchase NVidia. The code in the linked bot is completely non-functional; all it will do is sell Nvidia if you have it. The bot shown at 15:24 will only buy Nvidia. This isn't a bot.
