Definitely in arranging and lyrics!! But I kinda miss the cool but nervous frenetic energy of the first couple Dire Straits records. They were laid back, but you could hear the frenetic energy in the solos and drum fills. Don't get me wrong, the new stuff is far more intra-modal!!! But I guess like we all do, we get more knowledge , less energy, and through experience figure out to balance it as we age... Out comes some amazing things you never conceived of doing!!!

I live in Australia so it’s unlikely I will see him . But I would definitely watch her. From the first time I heard Dire Straits, Knopfler has been unique , has a sound all of his own . This Is one of the greatest collaborations in music! Ever! Mark and Ruth both have unique voices that blend and contrast from one moment to the next! I would go so far as to say that this song and this duo has demonstrated to be One of the absolute top five duets of all time in any music genre. I know this collaboration was a few years ago but I, on occasion, revisit this and other songs published perhaps 5 or 6 years ago yet each time I revisit these songs sung by Mark and Ruth I am taken aback at how could I have not continued to listen over and over again as I have just done! Hope these two marvelous musicians find the occasion to treat us to other music that may have yet to put out there for us. Together. Man I cannot think of anything that could strike in me such sentiments then listening to these two together singing such a heartfelt song as 'Wherever I Go'! Their work together was Indeed One of those rare occasions where music, personality, voices, performance, personalities just come together to be that very, but very very special and unforgettable collaboration. One that touches a very special and unique musical sensitivity that each of us rarely has the pleasure to hear, feel and witness! My thanks to them for stirring these wonderfully romantic and personal sensations in me through their musical collaboration. Absolutely such a magical music collaboration which continues to hold a very special place in my personal musical appreciation experience.
A good song tells a story, sets a mood, Mark's songs consistently do that, you see places you've never seen, experience moods you'll never know. He's collaborated with some big names, and newcomers and always draws the best out. Knopfler always manages to enchant the listeners, and mixes sounds like few know how to do. Whatever the subject of the story he's telling, the music complements it perfectly.
Years ago I was part of a group that in an effort to make contact with a pod of dolphins played music underwater for them through a hydrophone(underwater speaker system). The interesting part was when you were in the water you felt the music through your entire body, I would love to experience this song like that!!!!!!!
