  • If you search "king of spades nursery spade" online you can find various vendors to pick them up.
    - We've purchased from amleo.com before and like their service, but plenty of other vendors. Ebay may have them used, open box, etc. Just skip Amazon :)
www.wwmfg.com/ - Company that makes the King of Spades. They don't sell them it seems, but you can check out the various options and other tools (we only know about the tools spoken about in this video)
ruclips.net/channel/edibl... - Join as an Edible Acres member for access to members live Question and Answer sessions and to support our work!
www.paypal.me/edibleacres - A simple and direct way to ‘tip’ to help support the time and energy we put into making our videos. Thanks so much!
Edible Acres is a full service permaculture nursery located in the Finger Lakes area of NY state. We grow all layers of perennial food forest systems and provide super hardy, edible, useful, medicinal, easy to propagate, perennial plants for sale locally or for shipping around the country…
www.edibleacres.org/purchase - Your order supports the research and learning we share here on youtube.
We also offer consultation and support in our region or remotely. www.edibleacres.org/services
    Happy growing!

I've been investigating raising chickens and I must say your program is the most natural, practical and cost effective method on RUclips. I had pieced together the basic concept of using compost to feed the chickens from watching other channels and consolidating the various ideas, perhaps breeding Black Soldier flies as well . . . Then discovering you have been doing for it five years. Using worms instead of breeding larvae. Good to go, thank you for the effort you are putting into educating those that are interested.

I take an angle grinder to mine at least once a year to keep it screaming sharp because it enables you to cleanly cut roots near the end of each plunge into the root zone. Makes digging trees more pleasurable! Your channel/content are tops in my book. Preciate what you do! Cheers from Kentucky!

I have one of these... absolute workhorse of a tool. I call it "my grandchildren's shovel/spade" because, when I eventually have grandchildren, it'll still be around WORKING! Great video as always.

The tall narrow shovel is great for digging and then getting to the bottom of a charcoal cone pit. Rustoleum red primer will treat, cure, and stop the rust. I wait for exceptions and wire brush, file, emery cloth, and retreat. Some day they may get painted but I have not found anyone in the area doing the same. That means the color is an identifier... belongs to Burke. Cheers. You are a good mentor.

Good note here... To be honest I like the look when they are worn in. It is superficial at most with the discoloration, so I'd imagine untreated these tools may last 50-100 years!

I just found your channel today. Lenny is absolutely a hoot! How old is he?
This past gardening season I was dealing with post-covid syndrome with intense weakness. I couldn't handle a normal shovel, but found a version of the king of spades in the barn. My hubby calls it a sod shovel. I could handle this "baby" shovel. It was great. I tried shoveling some dirt with it last week and realized it was time to upgrade to a regular shovel for the job. I had enough strength now to use one. However, my little shovel still works for other tasks. Now I know that it works for seedlings! Awesome. Thanks.

Well I’m going to chime in and say, KOS makes some great tools. The one you have there, is excellent, I have to say after using one for years that I prefer the almost the exact same tool but with the rubber handle. Much easier on my wrist and shoulder when having to “throw” the tool into the earth when chopping a root.

Two of my three favorite tools are things you recommended a few years ago that I got from AML: a long-handled King of Spades and the bright orange poly scoop-fork. (My third fave is an oscillating/stirrup hoe). I have it on my list to dig horseradish this weekend and the King of Spades is the perfect tool for getting down to cut the root as deep as I can. Thanks for occasionally pointing these things out!

AM Leonard also sells an all-steel spade which I bought because I found this one a bit too pricey--but the price for the AM Leo version was about $80, comparable to what you paid for yours lo these many years ago. Might be a good choice for the budget-conscious consumer, I've been very satisfied. Feels like there's nothing the spade can't do, and I'll probably be picking up a few more AM Leo implements to round out my collection.

Hey Sean, I wasn't aware that you should soak trees after digging them out of the ground and prior to transplanting. Do you also soak trees prior to planting once they've gone dormant? How long do you soak them?

    • @edibleacres
      @edibleacres  Год назад +1

I don't think it is something that is exactly critical, but a really good baseline practice... Digging trees? Have a bucket full of water... Planting? Have a bucket of water to move them in!

Everyone who believes and calls on the name of Jesus shall have his sins forgiven, for He is God who took human form and offered Himself as a sacrifice. Watch for the imminent appearance of Satan on earth, where he will pretend to be Jesus. Jesus was eating at Simon's house (Simon was a leper whom Jesus had healed) a few days before His crucifixion when a woman arrived with a box of priceless ointment and anointed Him with the entire box. The disciples thought the woman was crazy because she could have sold the ointment and given the money to the poor. She had anointed Him for burial, Jesus revealed to them, and He commanded that what she had done be reported so that she would be remembered wherever the gospel was told. Jesus died for the eternal forgiveness of your sins. Beware Satan who will soon appear claiming to be Jesus. Just before Jesus was killed, he was eating and a woman came and anointed him with a box full of expensive ointment, the disciples complained because it was very expensive stuff. Jesus explained to everyone that she had anointed him for his burial.
