This was the best, a lovely warm hearted review of the 3M 5CA mirror lens! 💖 Lovely pix too. I have this Mak, interesting stuff. It's good even for Astrophotography.
I couldn't find much more, but from what I could gather it was used on anti aircraft weaponry mounted on tanks or armored trucks, but it's never specified how exactly they were used.
@@MarcoAries you're wrong. ZM-5A has never been designed for military purposes. It was designed for amateur astrophotography and wildlife photography. Though optical factories in every country are dual purpose, ZM-5A is a completely peaceful product.
ZM-5A has never been used in military equipment, it is bullshit. The lens built for amateur astrophotography and wildlife photography. It is small Maksutov catadioptric telescope and nothing more. Not every piece of USSR industrial production was made for war. Optical factories in Soviet Union then and in Russia now produce both military and civilian products, but military equipment is never sold to individuals, except hunting gear.
RUclips just put this lens in my feed Marco. I guess I was looking too much into my recently acquired MTO 1000A 1100mm f10.5 (Or what I call, GoldenEye as its the size of a satellite). For a 500mm f8 mirror lens this thing looks fairly small and looks pretty good for mirror lens. Do you still own this lens today?
If you ever try a MTO 1000A I am thinking your city isn't big enough. I used it in a valley here in Calgary and thinks 5km away filled the frame. Its big and heavy and hard to use. But they are surprisinly fun to play around with (but the novelty will go fairly quick I am sure). @@MarcoAries
I actually almost bought one a couple years ago. I remember trying to shoot the moon with the 500 and a 2x teleconverter on an aps-c camera, my skinny tripod wasn't remotely steady enough to keep it still! 😂
Haha even with a steady tripod. It still shakes. Plus you cant use the 1100mm in the wind and can't use on a hot day as you will see heat rising. Its fun but wow what a ridiculous and slow lens to use. Even to focus it takes time to get right with your camera's magnifying set to 10x and hope to see a sharp result. When it is sharp though? It is impressive. @@MarcoAries

Thanks, glad you liked it!
I have the 3M5A I think from MTO I believe and I love it
It sure is interesting!
Thanks for the review. I have this lens but I don't use it much. Great to see what it can do.
Thank you for watching! Yes, it's not an everyday lens, but at the same time is nice to have it in your arsenal 😉
beautiful town for a nice review. Where is it?
Udine, in the remote north-east of Italy
Would have loved to know more about the usage on tanks i.e.: how did they use it on a tank? To aim? for a distant look? ?

@@MarcoAries Thanks for the reply.

The 500 is less than half, if not even a third, the size of the 1000. I've sold it because I wasn't using it.

Interesting lens, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching 😉
Great, I have the 3M-5A with a 2x teleconverter ("KONBEPTEP 2X").
Have you tried astrophotography with this "mini Mak"? 😊
Just a few shots at the moon, nothing special

Thanx Marco, you already sold it I know 🤭
I did, yes

Buon affare, sono sicuramente lenti interessanti che vale la pena provare!
