Introducing the first Limited Edition Islander, the Red October

- The Islander Red October is a numbered limited edition of 200 watches. It has a special numbered and engraved Red October caseback. The name Red October was suggested in a naming poll right here on RUclips. This model features a red seconds hand and inside the 43mm case is an NH36, 24-jewel automatic movement. The center links of the watch bracelet are polished for a more unique look.

We need a reissue of this model. That red seconds hand makes that watch pop. And I desperately want one
I agree. I wasn’t so big on the plain blue version although it’s nice and blue is one of my favourite colours, but this version with the red hand and polished centre links really changed the vibe. I’d replace the standard blue one with this version…Marc would struggle to keep them in stock.

@@islandwatch It's ok, I was just surprised the 100 sold so fast. I really want a 38mm watch. I have a 6.8-inch wrist and 38 or even 36 works well for me. I know the lug to lug has a lot to do with how it fits on the wrist.

Sadly I dont think 200 will be enough to satisfy demand, there will be a few unhappy bunnies who are going to miss out especially as the watch is nicely thought out and also having it related to a film that the late great Sean Connery was part of will only help its sale further.
Personally I think 400 would be a nice number and also coincides with the subs test depth, easy to say now but hey ho the watch is fantastic.
If you make another limited, maybe we could go 38mm? This looks awesome but I just cant pull it off.

I was looking at the bezel that they have in long island watches and I don't know about you, but I would like a bezel to have the texture used by the zippo starter. I don't know if it would be a good idea but I would buy it. I leave you the link of the texture to which I refer but in stainless steel.

Great Watch but it was most likely not the smartest move to made it a limited edition!

The main weakness of these watches are the indices. The 12 o'clock should be slightly bigger and the 9 o'clock indice should be slightly smaller. Additionally, there should be models with rectangular indices. Still beautiful watches. Thanks Mark. Keep up the good work. All the best success!

Can the magnetic field from my mobile phone cause my watch to drift in accuracy if I use the phone constantly during the day?
From what I understand, a more common magnetic hazard for a mechanical watch is speakers. Especially large ones. This is apparently why Ryan Gosling switches to a Casio when he's performing in his band.
I haven't heard of, or experienced, any magnetism problems caused by a phone. For my part, I'm more worried about the thin magnetic plate I slipped in between my phone and its case, which snaps onto another magnet on my car dashboard. I try to be careful with that.
I don't think the magnets in your phone have a strong enough magnetic field to magnetize your mechanical watch. Although, I would avoid directly placing your mechanical watch next to or on top of a phone or a tablet (emphasis on the latter) for long periods of time.
@Lookie Here I've never heard of that TV trick before, very clever! Unfortunately I don't think we have any CRT TVs or monitors left in our house :(
You're exposed to much higher magnetic forces when you take a subway or a plane for example, does that messes up your watch?
It certainly doesn't with mine. Although it CAN, but really, not only is it easy to fix if that happens, but that's not nearly as much as a worry as some say.
Just for the sake of physics I put a Chinese sub homage which to be fair was running well on the top of our microwave oven for several uses of said appliance. The magnetron in a microwave is very high in terms of magnetic field.Guess what..... Nothing happened at all to the timing of the mechanical movement. I used magnets as well. Nothing occurred? Hope that helps.

Now that is one beautiful beautiful beautiful watch. The blue dial and the red second hands mix beautifully, and that Yachtmaster style bezel is superb. If i was in the US I would've bought one.

@@mikeg6008 Marc has them on his website. You have to buy 3 hands but I think he used that on his when it first showed everyone. I have an ISL 18 with a red second's hand, regular caseback.

Hey Marc, I’m just finding this now...I’m assuming the second 100 has already been released? 😞 I’m actually addicted to your videos (very new to watches) I now have the bell tagged so I don’t miss out on anything else 🥳
I missed the first 100... I cannot recall exactly, but I thought I tried within an hour or two at the most of that first release time, but they were gone... I got the restock email at 11:32 today (12/6), and by the time I checked my email and placed the order it was about 12:40. I was afraid they would be gone again... but I got one!

This is why I beat myself up about not having the time to keep up with my favorite RUclips channels! I’m only about 7 days late, lol! From the second that I first saw the ISL-18 I said to myself, “man, I’d really love to see this watch with a red seconds hand!” Looks even BETTER with the polished center link bracelet. Excellent job designing this/all of the Islander watches. Is there any chance that you’d ever consider making the second batch (or some of the second batch, or an additional batch) with a case back that still reps an etching of Long Island? To my mind, as a native Long Islander the only thing cooler than telling people, “yeah it’s a watch made by one of my favorite RUclipsrs” is being able to show off the Long Island etch (even though I really like Marvin’s design). I suppose I could always swap out the case back, but I would sacrifice the exclusiveness of the numbered edition. Idk, just a question/thought. Either way, thank you for everything you’ve opened my eyes to about watches.

Dude honestly you should probably start increasing your estimates for demand for Islanders... you have more data than I, but I feel like your "extra-appealing" stuff gets sold rather quickly. Again, I don't have your numbers, but it's possible you have kind of found a niche in the market at this price and these priorities (specs, functionality, not too concerned with original design but not homage watches either).
You never know, until you know. The customer doesn't always reveal their feelings.
