    I was literally doing these yesterday and wondering if I should be going up all the way. I did just to be on the safe side but I'm happy to hear I was doing it right💪

      also 99% of ppl do their sa pull downs all the way so their hands touch or go over their hips, meaning they enter into shoulder extension when all you lookin for is scapular depresion meaning your hands will never end near your hips or else you are moving away from that scapular depression function you are lookin in SA PDs.

      ​@@georgerr335 the lats main function is shoulder extension isn't it? Why would it not be a good idea to do so? It would be a peak contraction instead of a loaded stretch but it can still yield hypertrophy

      When in doubt just go to the position where that particular muscle group is as stretched as it can be

    I feel like stretching out my muscles as far as I can and then contracting them as slow as possible is the most optimal way for isolation and growth

      I try to do this for most exercises I do. Lat pulldowns are freaky now with less weight than I did when I first started.

    Anatomically, the lats and Teres Major are the swimmers muscles (think of the arm movement during the butterfly). They are def activated during this

    So I got this tip from a bro at the gym and it did def change how I feel the muscles working in a good way, but, today I f’d my left shoulder blade up somehow. Any tips? Turning my head left hurts in the back of my left neck, and my left shoulder blade feels like someone has their fingers under trying to pry it up

    The more contracted a muscle is, the more myacin heads are able to bind to actin making it easier but when you stretch the muscle then only the tips of the myacin heads can bind to the actin making them tear easier causing microtears, breaking down those sarcomeres and building bigger muscle fibers

    I like doing this same exercise but with a Lat Bar & yeah you gotta stretch right up to the top & even pause for a sec after your first couple of sets feel it stretch

    It's a great exercise, if you slow your reps down you'll feel it so much its great slow at around the 15 rep range. Pumps are insane.

    What do you recommend for that upper range of motion so it doesn't hurt the shoulder/rotator cuff?

      From my experience to help your shoulders and shoulder mobility do about 2 minutes of dead hangs a day in total, so 4 sets of 30 seconds.
      Also make sure you’re blasting your rear delts consistently.

    there's not only 1 study and its pretty known at this point that the lats aren't nearly as active when the arm is overhead. You can feel this yourself too

    I end up feeling my triceps quite a bit when doing this exercise. Is that normal?

      If you do, it means you're doing a decent job at it. The triceps help when you resist the urge to curl your biceps while pulling, especially as the upper arm starts coming in line with or behind the torso midline.

      @@sk8rfromGA Thanks. I just felt like I might be pulling it towards me wrong but I guess not.
      I don’t feel an extreme amount of it in my triceps but when I start kind of going to failure, part of what gives out is my tricep as well as a bit of my lats so was slightly concerned.

      Same thing! To really target the lats I "activate" my lats by holding my shoulder down and imagine I have a tennisball in my armpits that I want to squeeze

      If you find your shoulders and traps are getting tired, try lowering the weight, different body positions, handles etc. You can always modify and play around with an exercise as long as you’re keeping good form!

    I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, my form looks fine but I don’t feel lat activation in this exercise. When I up the weight my arms get too tired. When I lower the weight I feel no activation.

      This might sound stupid or maybe you already do this....I just concentrate completely on the lats doing all the work...the arms are just connecting point for your lats to the bar....I don't wrap my hand around the bar either...because when I do I feel like I'm using my arms to pull it down. Even with lats pull downs I put my thumb over the bar with my fingers and just think of them as hooks and concentrating totally on the lats pulling the weight...mind to muscle is a beautiful thing.
