I was atually in the audience for this taping and my best friend is one of the dancers with the yellow skirt on up front on the left ha ha those were the days
Awesome! Been playing this song on repeat for days now. Rick's talent was best shown in the way he could embrace new styles of music (electro in the 80s, hip-hop in the 90s) and still keep it funk. Superb!
ah good old new york city! whatever happend to ya!???? this is video reminds of nyc of old! good times, gritty streets of manhattan! da village ,alphabet city, 42nd st,
This is real funk too, ist just a update to the middle 80´s, the punk funk horns are not in front but it is still funky even it is not as good as older Rick James Stone city band albums...may the funk be with you forever to all the funkateers up there!
Rick indeed is the King of Punk Funk-New York Town, and the Village People-(New York City) are some nice funk tributes to New York! This is funk not pop-Prince is pop-Rick is Funk!
Actually, 'Glow' which was released after 'Coldblooded' was pretty good too. It didn't do as well not only because of RJ's drug use but also because he was also frustrated with Motown. Motown was still stuck in the 60s, early 70s and Rick felt that the company was reluctant to explore or promote any material that didn't have a 'sound'. RJ complained that Motown's base was Supremes fans and winos. LOL!
boldsoulsister is right, Prince opened up for Rick James, as Rick said. He even stole his guitar and amp, recorded his album and sent it back to Prince. It was in his 1988 rick james interview. As u can notice, Prince copies alot of rick's moves and mannerisms, but Rick would never sing Raspberry Beret, could u image?
Number 1 this came off the Cold Blooded album. And the other song your talking about is called P.I.M.P THE S.I.M.P. And New York Town isn't Pop what in the hell are you listening to?
Damn, this video would be tight if the "Fame" wannabes would get the hell off the stage and let Slick Rick get down. And to the person who posted the live David Letterman version of "She Blew My Mind (69 Times)", man can you PLEASE post that again??
There will never be another soul like Rick James.

Prior to "Purple Rain", prince sure had some competition in the electro-funk department

@boldsoulsister Yup, Prince basically copied his whole sound and swagger. But isn't Prince still wearing his midget diapers?
