Im sorry to say this, but you barely are out of your Learnings and right away want us to pay for your class? what would be fair, you first master what you want to teach and when youre a master teach us, instead of giving us half baked ideas for s fast bucket. thanks
What I absolutely understand is that all successful filmmakers started somewhere and traveled almost the same path. I am exactly on the same path and I totally agree with you. When you chase the money you essentially leave the art. But when you pursue art, the money comes by itself. Well done Alex. Keep up the good work and keep helping new artists. My kisses from Greece!
Alex, you always articulate the point so well. I can relate 100%. I’ve been freelance for 7 years. Only just finding my true direction and getting to the 5k - 15k jobs. Thanks for motivation :)
It’s hurts to fail, not just with film making but life in general. Alex the advice you are giving is so right with not giving up. Thanks for the therapy session it keeps us strong 💪🏾.
This video is such a good advertisement for what you are saying…passion shining through instead of a rote video promoting some random product. Thank you!!
This is a beautiful video. I needed to hear this. When you talked about how some people give up after hitting a few roadblocks, I realized that is me. I am that person who wants to be a jack-of-all-trades and cram everything for the sake of filling in every role. I might just try aiming toward a path that fits me best. From a novice videographer, Thank you!
First of all Thankyou Alex for teaching all of us soo much and putting soo much passion in the work. You inspire me, hopefully one day we’ll collaborate
Awesome! Just had a binge of your last videos and I’m thankful I saved this one for last! It’s great to have that reassurance that my hard work will pay off. I’m just gotta keep pushing! I have shoots at the end of this month and I have a big project I’ll be doing afterwards! I’ll keep working hard and show my passion and skills! Thank you! I pray you have much more success and abundance!
Bro your videos are so damn motivating! I spent 5 years in the music industry, just like you, as an artist and eventually ended up getting signed with Warner music. Turns out working with a label and doing music full time didn't work out for me, but I'll always be a creative at heart and want to channel that passion I had for music into film making now. Your videos are motivating me to go after it. Thank you for making this.
That’s awesome man. I wish you the best through this transition. I know how hard it is to let go of one passion to pursue another. Good luck my brother
Oooooooh Brother! You couldn't be more right (once again)! I'm so blessed to count you as a friend and as a mentor! Your message goes straight to my heart man!! Keep creating, keep teaching, keep inspiring! You were made for this Bro!!! 👊💥
@@Alexzarfatifilms , Alex! I’m good brother, just dealing with a lot of stuff lately. But I’m good, thank you for asking :). How are you doing? Also, I’ve been working on a short documentary for a client. When it’s done I will send it to you if you would like (I joined your WhatsApp group!)
This is incredible advice, and I hope that everyone takes it. I did the exact same thing working for corporate clients and then a lot of my portfolio ended up being the stuff from their projects that I was less passionate about. That stuff would lead me to getting Video jobs of the same nature and not the Video jobs that I actually wanted. That first passion project I did cemented every other type of opportunity that I would get and my biggest opportunity came after making that leap. In the beginning, you make nothing by doing that, but it set you up for the future, success and happiness that comes with it.
I shot for Corporates for 3 and a half years to raise money for the gear I own and pay bills, all the while i felt exactly as you described: unfulfilled, limited in creativity and not growing. I knew I could do and be so much more, than just chasing a monthly cheque years on end. So I shot a personal project for the first time in a while and was surprised by the level of quality I could now produce (Now that I was creating for myself and actually loved what I was doing). I realized I'm more capable than I actually thought I was, and have been sitting on gold this whole time, literally.. i just needed to keep creating work with intention and love and build my portfolio that. That's when success found me and i enjoyed creating again.. And yes folks do pay more when they see work created with dedication. love and skill.
Man I also switched from music to film because it's almost impossible to succeed in music in SA. And most of the people I know that do film used to be musicians. Anyways, great insight and advice man!
The most honest, realist, and phenomenal advice I ever heard in my life. Thank you Alex for this message! You’re just in time of what I need it to heard the most as a newbie filmmaker 💯
Anytime bro! And It’s doing amazing so far 🔥, I’ll tag you on the insta pic behind the scene whenever I get a chance for my project that I’m working on.
Don’t usually comment too much, but this deserves it!!!! I’m 34 and now starting my own business, been the most difficult thing I’ve ever done, but got my first wedding in two weeks and I’m nervous/excited, this video was the biggest inspiration I’ve got so far!!!!!
What a great message! Probably something I could have done with hearing 5 years ago... But screw it, now I'll go out and shoot a short film this weekend purely because I want to and not worry if it it sucks! Thanks man :)
You are my Inspiration & now fav. Filmmaker ❤.. keep uploading the videos and push us to do Something great in life.MUCH LOVE FROM INDIA 🇮🇳 Finally thnx for everything ...more power to you✌
You touched on something super crucial to most professional endeavors, the Dunning Krueger effect of uninformed optimism, to informed pessimism, to valley of despair, to informed optimism, and finally success. Most people will quit at the “informed pessimism” part. I find myself struggling with motivation all the time, but keeping the dunning Krueger effect in mind helps me have perspective.
I’ve never heard of that before the Dunning Krueger effect I’m gonna have to look that one up. All I can say man is eventually somethings Gotta give either you’re going to breakthrough or what you’re trying to accomplish will break you.
I am with you. Actually, it´s totally my status quo right now. However, I want to create cinematic lifestyle videos for brands or travel agencies, but still need money in advance to pay the bills. Hence, I decided to work as a dp for some paid giggs here and there to get money to make these spec projects happen. Actually, I want to start right now with those projects, but where to get money meanwhile? :D
