I consider myself an Atheist, but what I love about Skillet is how they focus not so much on the religious aspect, but rather the good morals of a Christian. They care more about life as it is and how it should be cherished.
That's how the world should be, rather push your opinions onto people you should just be nice to everyone and get along. Now I am no saint and i am not perfect but I have been trying to learn from these views over the last couple of years. :)
David May Wow... He hasn't said anything bad about God. So he's an atheist don't call him an idiot just because he believes in modern science which is way more believable than a man magic conjuring things onto Earth. When Lori Peters brought Jen in to replace her I don't think the band knew fully what they were getting. Sure they knew she could play, but WOW..the VOICE! BONUS. I've always been impressed with Jen, from being a late teen coming across the pond to play with this band, to today. AMAZING. I still can't believe it's been 12 years since Jen came to Skillet, and they have just grown so much. Love how John and Jen meld on the vocals. JUST FREAKING AMAZING!

My favorite band till today I started listening when Jen ledger became their drummer this band saved me from suicide on multiple occasions. I’m 29 today and they still help me power through my depression. Love u skillet

When I'm sad, I always turn on the Skillet and I feel good. Their music is a cradle for me. I always turn them on before going to bed, and fall asleep to their music.
Take it however you like, but I'm 53 years old and I listen to them every day! I got hooked on them about 3 years ago, then told my 18 year old daughter that I had a new favorite band, then she told me they were Christian Rock! I thought that was awesome!
I love the roughness of John's voice juxtaposed together with Jen's on the Rise album;it really gives a different kind of vocal sound to what I consider a revolutionary record.
Skillet honestly saved my life, their songs made me feel something and not so numb, I was considering suicide I really didn’t care, I lost my friends because of drama, I felt like I was bothering my parents since they didn’t think it was anything serious at all. I really really wanted to die, but I listen to their songs again and they just gave me hope and towards the end of the year I met two people one of them named Gabriel another named Audrey and they are just the nicest people I’ve ever met and my other friends in another state helped me too, Skillet played a use rule in helping me get out of depression

I hope that you never came to feel bad again and have theses thoughts of suicide. You have to remember that you just have this life to live and that you have to enjoy as much as you can. Even I don’t know you, I know that everything will be ok now! Just trust in yourself and keep living this beautiful life you have.
Skillet linkin park and disturbed and my three kids has helped me I have had very dark times the closest was when i felt the cold blade on my neck but I just saw my kids as a vision without me and closed the knife put it back in my pocket and just broke down I’ve had my moments but never have that thought in my head and I had 2 kids then now I have 3 and I have my favorite songs
Miranda, I really hope you're continuing to be in a better place than you were back then. Finding your way out of that mess is the first step, and the hardest. Congratulations on finding new friends who are (hopefully) actually friends to you. I hope you were also able to find things which make your life feel more meaningful. Most of all, I hope you found faith and a connection to God. There have been times this last one was the only thing between me and... well, a huge mistake, so I say from experience it's critically important. I'm an atheist and Skillet has been my favorite band since I was like 13. I didn't know they were a Christian Rock band then and didn't care to find out until today. Still the favorite band. Still love the songs.

Wow, what a fitting song, after I was diagnosed with a rare disease called Moyamoya. Because I suffered 2 strokes and a brain bleed. This band helped me get thru this difficult time in my life....God bless you SKILLET....

I guess the band will probably never read this but I wanna tell a story: I've been listening to that album "RISE" when I was in a VERY dark place in my life. I was in a state where I wasn't able to feel any kind of joy. I wasn't even able to feel any kind of sadness. There was nothing inside of me, I felt like a hollow empty shell. I usually listen to music when I feel bad but there was nothing left to feel, there was nothing there that could boil up any kind of emotion ... no music, no friends, no family, no leisure activity, nothing. Every little thing in my life felt absolutely worthless and that's what I thought: "This is the end now. I'm gonna die." That's where this song hit me when I heard it. You probably know the Intro on the album: "death surrounds me, singing to me softly" ... it picked me up right where I was and the song negated exactly what I was thinking: "We're NOT gonna die tonight!" ... I think this song is the only one that could have ever affected me in any way that time. It made me feel like I was able to feel like a person again and it had a huge impact on the fight against the depression I was in. This song is not just a song. It took part in defining who I am today. Healthy, alive and willing to live! I will never ever find words to express how thankful I am to God and the band for that. I don't know if Skillet had any idea when they wrote this song it will literally be saving lives! I want to encourage you guys to hold on to your lives and your dreams. Even if you're in a dark place like I was or a lot of people are right now. You'll never know what life brings. The composer of this song must have been in that kind of dark place before and look at the fruit that came out of it! Your life matters, believe it or not. You're not gonna die tonight.
I totally understand where you're coming from. When I was 22 years old, I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. While this offered clarity and reassurance that what I was going through was treatable, it was utterly terrifying. What would my friends think? Would I be treated differently by society? Was I *alone*? So, I opened up to my friends and family members. It turned out that half of my family members had Bipolar Disorder or some other related mental health issue as did a few of my friends. However, many of my friends wanted nothing to do with me after I told them what I was going through. Between losing a bunch of friends and trying a bunch of meds that didn't work, I began a downward spiral into a deep depression while I was also on a manic high (mixed manic/depressive episode). Feeling like my misery would never end, I made a plan to end it. But then, on the day I had planned to do it, I saw an anti-suicide ad on TV that showed how suicide devastated a family, and how a failed suicide attempt could maime an individual for life. It then went on to explain how to ask for help, and I realized that God was screaming, "NOOOO!!! There is another way!! You are loved!!" So, I told my parents about my plan, and, they took me to the hospital, where I spent 3 weeks doing a lot of personal growth and figuring out a better long-term treatment plan for me. I still take meds, but it's only two meds instead of 5, and they work exceptionally well for me in combination with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, along with group therapy. *I am so glad that I held on. Life is worth fighting for!*
The Greatest Thing About Skillet is even thou they're a Christian Band, they make their songs relatable and helpful to anyone whether the person's religious or not and even times where they helped a lot of people fight their problems and get pass their darken times and even saved people's lives who where struggling with depression (and most of that people were non-Christians) and as a Christian myself, it really saddens me and quite dissapoints me that there are still Christians who judges and thinks that this band is wrong just because of their 'loud music' LOL Do you think John Cooper himself is forcing their songs or even their softest songs to be sung on a church. If a Music has a Deeper meaning towards Christianity that is good, then it can already be considered a Christian music, worship songs are the ones that are sung in a church. Thank You So Much Skillet for Making a lot of Beautiful and Legendary songs while also helping alot of people with it and thanks for also being here around for making me always Happy. Skillet is still too underrated despite them being around for like 25 years already but have proven to be one of the Best and Most Talented Artists/Musicians out there... (Also this post is not to offend anyone or attack any Christians who are feeling this way too skillet but I'm just pointing out that Skillet is one of the artists who have helped alot of people get through their toughest times (and whether you're into their music or not, we cannot deny that Skillet are one of the most talented musicians out there) Just saying...

I want to thank Skillet for their music. I have been fighting depression for a long time. When it hits me I put them on and it really helps. Songs like Not Gonna Die as literally saved my life. If you guys in the band read this please keep making your great music.

My dog passed away about half of a year ago. My cousin passed away a year ago. My aunt passed away half a year ago. This song helps me when coping to that. This band is the best band in existence, and it deserves way more recognition than it has. It reminds me that they know how much i loved them, and that my dog heard me whisper goodbye to her. Thank you Skillet... For everything you do!

No one in the whole world has any idea how the songs of these amazing guys, especially this masterpiece, can save my life and raise me up away from the depths of darkness, frustration, depression, anxiety and all painful feelings every time I hear them. Skillet for life. ❤
One is just a lipoma that they are cutting out next week and caused a lot of pain at night. The other is a Chordoma and they have to remove the bone to get rid of it completely or it will grow back. But the problem is with the Covid thing I can’t have the surgery so I have to have them try a procedure to burn it off. Either way I am happy to be able to get them removed so I can get my life back since they made me lose everything I had except the family and friends that helped me through these times.

When Lori Peters brought Jen in to replace her I don't think the band knew fully what they were getting. Sure they knew she could play, but WOW..the VOICE! BONUS. I've always been impressed with Jen, from being a late teen coming across the pond to play with this band, to today. AMAZING. I still can't believe it's been 12 years since Jen came to Skillet, and they have just grown so much. Love how John and Jen meld on the vocals. JUST FREAKING AMAZING!

Skillet honestly saved my life, their songs made me feel something and not so numb, I was considering suicide I really didn’t care, I lost my friends because of drama, I felt like I was bothering my parents since they didn’t think it was anything serious at all. I really really wanted to die, but I listen to their songs again and they just gave me hope and towards the end of the year I met two people one of them named Gabriel another named Audrey and they are just the nicest people I’ve ever met and my other friends in another state helped me too, Skillet played a use rule in helping me get out of depression

Congratulations on finding new friends who are (hopefully) actually friends to you. I hope you were also able to find things which make your life feel more meaningful. Most of all, I hope you found faith and a connection to God. There have been times this last one was the only thing between me and... well, a huge mistake, so I say from experience it's critically important.

I guess the band will probably never read this but I wanna tell a story: I've been listening to that album "RISE" when I was in a VERY dark place in my life. I was in a state where I wasn't able to feel any kind of joy. I wasn't even able to feel any kind of sadness. There was nothing inside of me, I felt like a hollow empty shell. I usually listen to music when I feel bad but there was nothing left to feel, there was nothing there that could boil up any kind of emotion ... no music, no friends, no family, no leisure activity, nothing. Every little thing in my life felt absolutely worthless and that's what I thought: "This is the end now. I'm gonna die."
That's where this song hit me when I heard it. You probably know the Intro on the album: "death surrounds me, singing to me softly" ... it picked me up right where I was and the song negated exactly what I was thinking: "We're NOT gonna die tonight!" ... I think this song is the only one that could have ever affected me in any way that time. It made me feel like I was able to feel like a person again and it had a huge impact on the fight against the depression I was in.
This song is not just a song. It took part in defining who I am today. Healthy, alive and willing to live! I will never ever find words to express how thankful I am to God and the band for that. I don't know if Skillet had any idea when they wrote this song it will literally be saving lives!
I want to encourage you guys to hold on to your lives and your dreams. Even if you're in a dark place like I was or a lot of people are right now. You'll never know what life brings. The composer of this song must have been in that kind of dark place before and look at the fruit that came out of it! Your life matters, believe it or not. You're not gonna die tonight.

I totally understand where you're coming from. When I was 22 years old, I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. While this offered clarity and reassurance that what I was going through was treatable, it was utterly terrifying. What would my friends think? Would I be treated differently by society? Was I *alone*? So, I opened up to my friends and family members. It turned out that half of my family members had Bipolar Disorder or some other related mental health issue as did a few of my friends. However, many of my friends wanted nothing to do with me after I told them what I was going through.
Between losing a bunch of friends and trying a bunch of meds that didn't work, I began a downward spiral into a deep depression while I was also on a manic high (mixed manic/depressive episode). Feeling like my misery would never end, I made a plan to end it. But then, on the day I had planned to do it, I saw an anti-suicide ad on TV that showed how suicide devastated a family, and how a failed suicide attempt could maime an individual for life. It then went on to explain how to ask for help, and I realized that God was screaming, "NOOOO!!! There is another way!! You are loved!!"
So, I told my parents about my plan, and, they took me to the hospital, where I spent 3 weeks doing a lot of personal growth and figuring out a better long-term treatment plan for me. I still take meds, but it's only two meds instead of 5, and they work exceptionally well for me in combination with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, along with group therapy.

The Greatest Thing About Skillet is even thou they're a Christian Band, they make their songs relatable and helpful to anyone whether the person's religious or not and even times where they helped a lot of people fight their problems and get pass their darken times and even saved people's lives who where struggling with depression (and most of that people were non-Christians) and as a Christian myself, it really saddens me and quite dissapoints me that there are still Christians who judges and thinks that this band is wrong just because of their 'loud music' LOL Do you think John Cooper himself is forcing their songs or even their softest songs to be sung on a church. If a Music has a Deeper meaning towards Christianity that is good, then it can already be considered a Christian music, worship songs are the ones that are sung in a church. Thank You So Much Skillet for Making a lot of Beautiful and Legendary songs while also helping alot of people with it and thanks for also being here around for making me always Happy. Skillet is still too underrated despite them being around for like 25 years already but have proven to be one of the Best and Most Talented Artists/Musicians out there... My dog passed away about half of a year ago. My cousin passed away a year ago. My aunt passed away half a year ago. This song helps me when coping to that. One is just a lipoma that they are cutting out next week and caused a lot of pain at night. The other is a Chordoma and they have to remove the bone to get rid of it completely or it will grow back. But the problem is with the Covid thing I can’t have the surgery so I have to have them try a procedure to burn it off. Either way I am happy to be able to get them removed so I can get my life back since they made me lose everything I had except the family and friends that helped me through these times.
