    I love my wing as well. One thing I will point out is if anyone is having trouble putting this big beast on the center stand keep in mind the adjustable suspension. You can always raise up the rear suspension to the highest setting and it will be easier to put on the center stand. Alot of people struggle with this and never think about raising the rear suspension. Work smarter not harder. Be safe and good video. 👍

    • @christownsend7602

      That is only handy if you have a built in air compressor so you can add or remove air by the push of a button. My Wings didn't have that so my extention did the job. Good idea though.

      I have a 1982 Interstate at this time and my others were a GL1200 and a 2000 GL1500. Haven't owned a 1800, yet. My 1100 is a rescue bike I found in a salvage yard. It was considered totaled by Geico because it went down and damaged the fairing. I bought it, repaired the fairing and after a detail it looks almost new and to my surprise it had 35,000 actual miles on it. Has many more years and miles left in it.

      @@christownsend7602 that 1100 sounds like a very nice bike. That's what I call a diamond in the ruff. I did the same with a 2000 gl1500. Had fairing and fender damage. And needed a new steering head bearing. Replaced it all and like you said. It almost looks brand new. Sorry didn't mean no disrespect on my comment just wasn't sure of what year wing you were referring too. Thanks for replying. Be safe. 👍

    One of the most important parts of the 'technique' is that if you do it on an uphill incline (like in your video) it's alot easier than on a level. That makes a big difference. Once you get it moving it falls back.

    • @randyteresi7284
      @randyteresi7284 Год назад +1

      If you throw it up on its center stand with a slight incline. It’s a bit more difficult to get it back down. Not hard; just more work. I throw my bike on urs center stand every time.

    Good Video. The biggest problem I see with people trying to put the bike on the center stand is that after they put their foot on the center stand and push it to the ground, they need to bring the bike straight up so it is resting on both of the center stand legs. If it is not resting on both of the legs before they start to lift the bike, it is harder to put the bike on the center stand.

    I have owned three different Goldwings and the GL1100 I can generally get it up on the center stand but, the GL1200 and the GL1500 where beyond ability. So, I made a clip on extention that fit the center stand arm that gave me about another foot of length and that worked for me. I am guessing you weigh something North of 200lbs, if not, beg my pardon, but, I come in at less than 125lbs and only 5ft 5", so you may have somewhat of an advantage on me. I toured extensively two up with the 1200 and 1500, the 1100 is just a sunny day ride ride for me nowadays. Loved them all, great motorcycles. Really good looking bike you have.

    • @TOURMANBOB
      @TOURMANBOB 2 года назад +2

      @@d2destinations106 Yes, the lube used in the Honda Wing switches will harden over time and from lack of use. I get about 10 years from mine and have changed out both sides once now in 20 years of usage. Easy to do, and you can certainly play around with them and hopefully fix them for awhile anyway. But if you are using the bike for long distance touring, you don't want to find you can't get out of reverse when 1000 miles from home.
      Now I routinely activate all the following buttons....reverse, cruise, mute and emergency blinkers (which is the most likely to lock up). I have also found if you are stuck, try using a hair dryer on the switch to warm it up and you can usually then get out of a locking in situation. Then while hot, activate and deactivate the switch some 20 times or so. On all older Wings, you have to continue to pay attention to this problem.
      This is about the only real problem that all Wings experience and being prewarned it's relatively easy to deal with

    • @wingandhog
      @wingandhog 2 года назад

      That's a common problem on older GL1800's. There are a number of videos on YT that go through the fix. In a nutshell, its best to take the switch housing apart and clean and re-lube each contact point but you should probably be a person who is patient and organized before attempting that.

  • @chrish236
    @chrish236 2 года назад

    I really thought you were going to use reverse to back it up on the center stand. I wonder if the difficulty people have with the center stand is because they have only ridden modern bikes and have no experience with center stands. I don't find it any more difficult to put the gl1800 on the center stand than my cb750.

    I just bought a new to me 2009 Goldwing GL 1800, it has less than 15,000 miles. The inside upper dashboard where it meets the windshield has cracks, how do I fix that? Other than that it appears cosmetically near perfect. What sort of service should I look into doing ?

    • @wingandhog
      @wingandhog 2 года назад +1

      If you have maintenance records, check last time the air filter and oil was changed. If there is no record, I would change both including Final Drive oil. Oil changes are super easy. The air filter is tedious but its actually looks harder to do than it is. I would recommend purchasing Cruiseman's Garage maintenance videos and a service manual if you have never worked on a Wing before.
      Thats probably all you need to do at 15k miles, but the service manual will give you a chart of what needs to be done during certain mileage intervals. I would follow that.
      As far as cracks in the dash, without seeing how extensive that damage is, I would look at sealing them with some sort of epoxy and repainting the dash. Or look for a used one in great shape and just replace it. Other guys here may have better ideas

    • @MrNedsaabdickerson
