Don’t forget the Goldwing was first offered for sale in 1975 in the GL1000, in 1980 the GL1100, in 1984 the GL1200. Many of these bikes are still on the road today, many with several hundred thousand miles on them and still going strong, some even with over a million miles. I’ve owned a 1978 GL1000, a 1984 Gl1200 Interstate, and currently a 1995 Gl1500SE. I also had a 2008 HD Ultra Classic for several years which got totaled hitting a deer, that’s when I went back to Goldwing, the most comfortable bike you can ride. Once you ride a Goldwing, you can’t ride anything else! 😉

Bought my 2010 in 2018 with only 5k miles. It now has 25k miles and has been 100% reliable. Fantastic machine!! I'm 73 and can ride it all day and not get tired.

I am on my 5th and probably final Goldwing. 2 1200s, 2 1500's and now an 05 1800 Anniversary Edition. Last year I took my "Someday Vacation" all by myself (the nest way in my opinion, stop when, where and why you want, leave when you want, lol. Central Michigan to the Ark Exhibit in Williamston KY, Corvette Museum in Bowling Green KY, on to Chattanooga Tenn to International Towing & Recovery Museum then on to Cherokee NC to ride the Blueridge Parkway, back to Nashville then home. 1800 miles on the 1800. I can't imagine ever having anything other than a Wing. have been widowed twice and neither one liked bikes so they were 100% fine with me doing my thing. Lost my best half a few years ago to cancer. I had a few friends who also rode, a couple had wings, a Vulcan and a Venture royal. Within a year they ALL got Harleys and within weeks of them getting them, they haven't spoken to me since. Hence, my someday vacation. I will miss riding but I've just lost interest. I love my Wing but maybe it's time to focus on home.

I have a 2003 Goldwing with a 163K miles on it. I bought it new and have had five other motorcycles mainly Harley's while I've had the Goldwing. The Wing has always been my main bike. I have always loved my harleys and my gold wing and never compare the 2 because they are two completely different bikes, and have always liked each 1 for what it is. However, truth be told, my latest Harley, a 2014 Ultra Limited that I bought in October 2023 is more comfortable in the seating position than the Wing for me. The best way I can describe it is that when I ride the Goldwing I feel like I am "on" the bike, but when I ride the Harley, I feel like I am "in" the bike, and that is a much more comfortable riding position for me. To be perfectly honest with you, I did the 1K iron butt ride on my Wing in 2005. I could easily do it comfortably on this Harley. In conclusion, I will say that the Wing is a far more technologically advanced bike than my Harley no doubt. But at this stage of my life, as a full-time RV traveler with a motorcycle, I enjoy a slower cruise and the comfortable sitting position of the Harley more. Also, I found myself racing the Wing around the turns and always going fast on the Wing.....which I don't need to do that anymore.

Lveling up the center stand is a must do for ALL center stand bikes. Some countries don't require driving education before obtaining a license. Those countries that do, youl'l learn this method during your training.

Your video saved my night. I was in another town on my recently purchased 2007 GW, ate dinner & came out to a dead battery. Called a nearby parts store, took an Uber there & back, replaced the previous owner’s Walmart Ever Start w/ an AGM battery (not that I had choice 20 minutes before they closed) & didn’t have to leave my bike on a city street overnight. The metal Ford skid plate is about $160 from the Ford dealer. Great improvement over the cardboard one and provides some security for cats. With a Fumoto drain valve, never have to unbolt it. Flip the lever, drain, flip the lever back.

I just bought me a 1986 Gl 1200 interstate. The gold wing is the best motorcycle ever manufactured in the history of motorcycle manufacturing.

I just bought a 2003 GoldWing, here in Brazil, with 65k miles. I went to pick it up 500 km from my house and arrived driving the motorcycle. I previously had a Harley Ultra Classic and found the GoldWing to be very smooth and quiet. I appreciate your explanations and you have gained an enthusiastic subscriber.

I'm in between scooters now, but I've had two Wings. Honda said years ago they should be capable of a million miles. I know I won't make that but it's nice to know they're that reliable. I've seen some at half that.

Great tips and suggesstions. I am not into having the tech items on my scooters and may try some someday. But the sidestand and boot tips are great points. I bought a throw-down option for the stand, but I like that slip on piece.

I think I've ridden most engine sizes in the series prior to the 2012 platform. I've owned a 1500 and 1800. My 1800 was the '09 and part of the final build from the States. Wingers probably know the 09-10 models were done together with color options being the only difference. I'm chewing on another one. Great Wing report, thanks.

Thanks for this primer video. Right on point! All my bikes been standard or sport touring ( 94 katana 750). Looking at a 92 or 94 GL1500 right now after 15 yr hiatus.

I know from Honda mechanics that I’ve spoken with, the GL1500 had maintenance issues that were a bear to deal with. I have a 2015 Anniversary Edition that has been a tremendous bike for me. I can get $200 worth of groceries in the bags and the tank can carry me 220 miles. It isn’t quite as far as my older ST 1300s but it sits easier on the ground and is plenty quick for an old man of 77. How have the new forks held up since 2018? It looks like a complicated piece of gear.

I purchased my 2010 GL1800 in July of 2017. After riding it just a a couple of months I was sick of the factory suspension. I started researching suspension upgrades and came across Traxxion Dynamics RUclips videos and was absolutely sold and aggravated that Honda did such a lousy job on the suspension. I had Traxxion Dynamics "Full Monty" (F/R suspension, neck bearings, fork brace and protectors) upgrade done and it was ABSOLUTELY night and day difference. You could tell a difference before you got out of the parking lot. I set out straight away to the Tail of the Dragon. Their system turns it into a GL1800ST...as in Sport Tourer. The bike felt 300 lbs. lighter and rode and handled remarkedly better. It was worth every penny. Not only that but with the rear upgrade your passenger will no longer be getting that shock to the tailbone that goes with factory rear suspension when it bottoms out. TD's system totally does away with that and makes spring adjustments entirely different. I ride it set at 10 solo and 12 with passenger and gear. My final say is that there is no way that I would ever compromise the handling of my GL1800 by going darkside. I have a friend that boasted that his handled fine with the car tire and said he could do anything I can with my bike. We took off into the mountain roads and within a few miles he was not even visible in the rearview mirror except on the longest straight aways. He has since scrapped the car tire and is going to get TD's system installed on his.

I ride a 22 HD Street Glide and I can tell you that Goldwing is a very well made bike. That being said it has no soul and its not fast at all. very unsteady at slow riding. still, it is a comfortable bike.
